- My aunt Marcelka Hrabovská is a master in decorating eggs with a barley straw. While she was visiting me in the USA we did Facebook live video so you can see how to prepare the straw and decorate eggs with cut out pieces of straw. We also talked about some traditions and fun facts. Hope you enjoy it! 😊

This is the most amazing UA-cam video I have ever discovered. Marcela is a true artist with extraordinary skill and heart.
Thank you! I also made another video when she visited where she explains all in details the whole method and she shows every step. It is on my channel. :)
Incredible! I’m amazed at this lady’s talent and patience. I’ve been culturally educated. Thank you!

Wow! I have admitted these gorgeous eggs for years but never knew the amount of work that went into creating them. Such a talent!! Thank you for sharing 💗
My pleasure. :) Yes it is incredible to see how many hours one take and so much patience. I admire my aunt for that and I am so honored to have some at home.

Such beautiful art! Thank you for sharing and helping my 7 year old learn about your culture's traditions.
Beautiful! I saw some of these eggs in an old art book when I was a small child in school. I'm so glad that technology has evolved for me to watch someone make them. They are something iv thought about for a long time and I'm going to try and make some myself. They are so beautiful ❤️
How amazing! Yes definitely give it a try. :)
What a labor of love! They're beautiful!
I think my Duolingo Czech lessons are paying off. I could understand some of her words.
That is wonderful! Great job! 👏🏻😊
Oh, how beautiful intricate and fascinating this art form is!!! I am completely in awe of your passion and skill and the translation of the symbols that tells its own unique story❤
You made me happy today, thank you so much 💗

WOW!!! Thank you and your moms cousin for sharing this art.

Thank you! She truly is a master.
This is wonderful! What beautiful eggs! Thank you so much for sharing this video. I’m so happy to be able to learn about the culture from the country where my great grandparents came from. Sadly all knowledge of their culture was lost to our family when they immigrated to Canada.🙏🏻☺️❤️
I am glad you enjoyed the video. :)
WOW this very tedious work and your mom has a lot patience! God bless her :)
Thank you! Yes, that is why it takes her 16 hours to make one egg. Lot of patience.
Vidím dve múdre , úctivé a trpezlivé žienky . Radosť Vás počúvať ! Ďakujem za rozhovor.
Děkujeme za hezká slova 😊
Krasna! Dekuji mockrat!!❤️

Thank you Mary Ann! They are truly breath taking especially when you hold them in your hands and see them up close. True patience.
I enjoyed watching this video so much. It reminded me of the very fine work my great grandmother did with crochet. Very, very small thread as your mom's cousin works with very, very small pieces of straw.
I am sure your great grandmother's work must have been so beautiful!
So beautiful, such art and craftsmanship.
Amazing! Thank you for making and sharing this wonderful video.

Easter eggs, but these eggs are absolutely Beautiful.😀
Is there an instruction book in English that I could buy?
Your reply is greatly appreciated.
God✝️ Bless you and I look forward to seeing more videos of these eggs.
Thank you Joseph. I do have already some more videos with my aunt's eggs. :) I am not aware of any book in English. My aunt published one book and the plan is to have English version so hopefully in the future. :)
How absolutely beautiful!!
Thank you :) True talent and patience.
God bless you for sharing. All the best to you and family
Thank you so much! Blessings!
Amazing artist! I thought the wax decorated Ukranian eggs were complicated but this is wild. I wonder how much she could make on eggs auctioned on ebay? They could be sent in very cushiony packaging in the box and insured.
I am sometimes able to sell them. I sell each for $30. It doesn't pay for her time since one takes 16 hours, but I think it is decent price people are willing to pay. They always sell out fast. :)
Beautiful part of our culture. You also did a great job of translating on the go - It is exhausting, I know.
Thank you Daniela! It was super fun to do. :)
Thank you for the art demonstration and chat with a true artist. It is so important to keep these cultural activities alive.
Please tell her she is a true artisan she is a keeper of the culture.. my heritage is both German and Ukrainian and I just love the Ukrainian painted eggs.
Is there a place in Canada or the USA where we could purchase these beautiful pieces of work?
Thank you Rita! Will let her know. She is not able to make too many since they take so much work for her. She might be visiting Houston week after Easter where she will sell her eggs and demonstrate the art. She can only sell in person. She also sell during Easter activities in the Czech Republic. I wish it would be more available.
I found this video a few weeks ago while searching for information on this technique. I was disheartened to hear that barley straw was necessary, rather than wheat straw. I said as much to my sister, who replied "We have that in the barn." *What?* "Yeah, Stephanie grew some for a micro-brewing experiment a few years ago. It's still up there..." So far I have created one straw covered egg. The design is large scale and the pieces aren't very regular, but I'm working on it. Are there any English language books on this art-form? Also, does Ms. Hrabovska recommend any varnishes for protecting the eggs, or should they be left alone after the straw is applied?
Thank you so much for this incredibly practical tutorial!
You can also use wheat straw. Barley is just the best one to use. I am happy to hear you have some. :) That is wonderful you are trying to decorate them. Large pieces are great for beginners. :) Try to do search on Amazon for some books. I saw some. After the straw is applied, next day you gently wipe any leftover glue. That is all. Nothing else is added. :)
❤️
Sooo, if I want one, I need to make one. What is the name of the book?
Sometimes I am able to sell some when my aunt has extras. I have sold and shipped many to USA. :) I am not sure what is the name of the book.
Krasota.
