My dad got his foot broken by Towmotor. The operator had shut it off and my dad was talking to him. When he got up he released the bake and it rolled on to my dad's foot. 120000 pounds on top of your foot is no fun.

Way too true; hear at my warehouse park alone roughly FOUR people are KILLED at/around the loading docks... annually on average... and the industrial park my work is located in isn't all that big either...
I watched this very film 32 years ago. I'd driven forklifts on our farm, so, I kinda knew what I was doing already. With that said, after all those years of driving as a full time job, I consider myself extremely lucky to have never had an accident while always getting my work done. I also still believe that the day I don't learn something new is the day that I give it up! NEVER get complacent ladies and gentlemen, it'll come back to haunt you.

I almost broke the "multi-function switch" off of the steering column trying to get that damn car to move! I also find myself blowing the horn at intersections now and then lol!

The steel truck shows up at the yard with our 2 inch 8x20 plates. Operator kid hauls out to the truck, spins the forklift around, and jabs the forks under the first plate. Too bad he was about an inch off and shoved the plate off the trailer. Good thing the brand new, just picked up that morning BMW belonging to the captain of the CG cutter was parked where it could catch the plate and prevent it from being damaged. The edge of the plate landed just behind the rear window and cut the beemer in half. Nothing sadder than a ship captain crying over whats left of his new ride.
It took everything I had in me not to laugh in a interview I was in when we had to test for this needless to say I walked home 45 minutes from where the job was and laughed the whole way lol 😅

I've banged the side of my head on my own forks after leaving the forks raised before ("it's only for a minute", I thought, then I proceeded to try to walk around the machine and then try to bend over to grab something). It's a lesson I didn't need to be taught again, haha
I was working in a smaller warehouse and had a electric forklift, that thing was great no smell or noise and on a very small decline I could get her to go 11 miles an hour ,8 around the corners.
I drove a Forklift for 4 years and did sketchy shit with it to help out fixing up the store I worked at. Thankfully the worst thing that happened was when I was moving a pallet with 3 cu/ft bales of peat moss tipped over and broke the already rotted pallet.
Like if you ever hung off the back of a forklift to help keep the steer wheels on the ground. I had to unload "U-boxes" for a uhaul dealership with a Clark electric forklift. Heaviest box i ever had to move was full of books. So many truckers would stand RIGHT THERE while i loaded these full 5'x8'x7' boxes into their trailer. At one point i thought, "why is your life in MY hands right now?" And thinking that made me so mad, i started yelling at this guy to get tf away. That attitude stuck with me from then on, i was 18 when that happened. Im almost 28 now and ill get just as pissed if/when it happens again. Having good risk assessment is key. And a good imagination doesnt hurt. I see my fingers come off everytime i pick up a circular saw... I still got all 10... Somehow. Hahahaha
Once I was loading a 15k fork onto the trailer, it lifted the back of my truck up and well we all went for a ride, thank God I was about to drive the blame thing the rest of the way up on the trailer while all that was going on to get the trucks rear end back on the ground so it would stop, I was about 150' from hitting my neighbors cars HAHAHA.
A guy got crushed by his own forklift where I worked, he didnt set the parking brake theres was a slight incline he was moving pallets around it backed into him pinning him against a wall, use the parking brake even in your car every time

The real danger is some of the stunt men that did these accident simulations. The guy rigging the lift when it turns over sideways, the guy driving the lift through the brick wall, and the one running the lift off the dock into the water.

Yes you should. The road should be flat so it wont tip. If going at an angle only one wheel goes over a rail at a time, reducing the impact because only one of four surface contact points is moved. This removes most of the impact.

I watched this back in the mid 70's when i worked as Forklift driver at Caterpillar Glasgow Plant in Scotland where we built the D6 and D8 dozers.
These ancient videos are still as relevant now as when they were made. The basic fundamentals haven’t changed.
No fork lift was injured in making of this film.
