      Thank you for watching my video Cube. I'm happy it was useful to you. My videos are very long because I try to cover things I would want to know if I was going to spend that much money on a phone, but other UA-camrs probably aim to have shorter length videos. @@lucaspetiot9620 You're living the brave life lol. I haven't dropped a phone yet, but there have been times when I went to pick one up without paying attention and it slid out a bit and hit a table from a few inches so now I just put on clear cases. I think you made a solid decision to go from Fold 2 to Fold 4. I haven't used any previous Fold devices, but from what I've heard, the Fold 4 improves in many areas and it feels like a polished experience so far coming from a first time user. Btw, how did you find your Fold 2 in cold weather? How did the screen hold up? I saw one guy say that his screen cracked opening the Fold 3 in cold weather. I have the Note 20 Ultra, which is roughly the same size and functionality as S22.
    I've only recently started using and appreciating the SPen, but always found myself zooming in to documents to make make notes.
    Also, the phone is big. its width and height makes it almost unpocketable, and not many phone pouches were large enough for the Note.
    I started feeling that I want more real estate, yet in a smaller form factor.
    Well, I guess time has come to finally pull the trigger on the FOLD.

    Thanks for the review. Both phones are technical marvels, and the S22 Ultra makes more sense as a mainstream choice. I went to the Fold 4 from the S22 Ultra for the combo phone/Mini tablet experience. After all these years with the slab style, the Fold 4's combo tablet style is a fresh and very welcome change.

      Hi Jim, you're 100% right about both phones being flagship devices. Once they can get Fold prices more reasonable in the future, it'll be ready for mainstream because right now it feel fluid enough in use for that, just the price makes it out of reach for most people.

      Hey Panda, if zoom is important, I would go to the S22 Ultra without question. There's been many times where I wanted that extra focal length reach, but couldn't get it with the Z Fold 4. Yea the Z Fold 4 is great for framing photos and videos and checking focus, but that lack of a telephoto lens is pretty major for me.

  • @rbasi25
    @rbasi25 2 роки тому +14

    Great review. I had the Z Fold 3 but sold it for the s22 ultra due to poor battery life. The s22 ultra's battery life was great, but I have now switched to the Z Fold 4. I am selling my s22 ultra and made my own comparisons while it is here, and I am glad I bought the Z fold 4. The battery life is excellent. I work long12 hr shifts, and I find that the Z Fold 4 will last me the entire shift, whereas the z fold 3 used to die halfway into my work shift. The Z fold 4's battery life is on par with the S22 Ultra! Phenomenal!
    Which one do you like better?

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  2 роки тому +3

      Hey Remy, yea I found the battery life on the Z Fold 4 pretty surprising since it's a lower capacity battery than on my S22 Ultra. One of the things I noticed about my usage is that I use the front screen wayyy more than I thought I would for things like texting, checking emails, quick browsing, etc. I only open it up really to take photos and to watch UA-cam and sometimes with multi-tasking. So the battery is mostly powering the much smaller screen and lasting longer for me. Glad to hear the battery is lasting you on your 12 hour shifts.
      I love the Fold 4 and the ability to double the viewing or working area within a second (really helpful when framing and reviewing photos) for me. However, I don't find myself using the screen unfolded as much as I thought I would since the front screen is so capable for most of my tasks. They're both great phones, but I would likely choose the S22 Ultra since it has the S Pen built right into the body and it has the telephoto lens, so it's a better all-rounder for my use. I do find that the sound is much better on the Fold 4 though since it has two large speaker grills.

      Considering the same thing. I currently have the z Fold3. However I do not use the inside as much and I am already on my 2nd one since it came out due to the inner screen protector coming off badly for my first one. And now I gotta get a new one again cause it fell and screen cracked. Was looking at fold 4..however was told its not much of a upgrade..plus the down payment is a lot more then the S22Ultra. Also, I hear the s22U has a great battery and great cameras..which I look for especially when going to concerts.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  Рік тому

      @@themusiclover8440 I haven't had this Fold 4 long enough to say that I won't encounter the screen protector issues, but so far no issues with it. I also find myself using the cover screen most of the time since it's usable, so the battery life is good since it's just powering that smaller screen. If you're into concert photography too, I think the S22 Ultra is better, plus it should have a better discount right now.

      Hey អៀ ធារ៉ា_Ear Theara, I tried to capture how the sound felt on video, but it sounds pretty similar. However, in real life when you listen to both, the Z Fold 4 sounded a bit fuller because of the top and bottom speakers. Either way, both are great sounding speakers, just the Fold 4 has a slight advantage for me. I never owned the S21 Ultra, the S22 Ultra was my first Samsung phone actually. Before this one I was using the Sony Xperia XZ Premium, which is another squarish type of design that I loved.

    i have s22 ultra but i got a great deal with my provider to upgrade with z fold 4. I had 30 days return policy. When I got the phone im really excited because of its uniqueness and big screen. 3 days upon using it im having doubt, the camera is not as good as my older s22 ultra and i barely use the fold 4 bigger screen. remiinds me that z fold 4 has only outer screen is hardened glass surface on the bigger screen is thin glass. easy to scratch. besides the weight of z fold 4 with casing is heavy. I enjoyed both of them but I returned my new z fold 4 on the 14th day of using it. back to my old reliable s22 ultra. and Im happy with it.

      Not having a 10X zoom like on the S22U definitely was missed on the Z Fold 4. Kinda like you don't realize how much you use it, til it's gone. The S22U is still such a a great phone. I'm going to be comparing the S22U against the new S23 Ultra this week, but the upgrade really isn't necessary unless you want more battery life and faster opening of apps and games.

      Agree, however even on lower battery I can only get 19-21W using a Watt USB C cable. After 50% it says it drops to 13-15W then 9W at 80% or above. I don't have a official Samsung 25 or 45w brick but I have a PPS and PD type C brick that can do 100W. I wonder if it is a software issue to protect battery charging health so they don't have another note 7 issue with folds. Otherwise charging speed is still fast compared to me coming from OnePlus 8 Pro with 30W charging.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  2 роки тому

      @@HOMERUN1379 Yep, there is truth to that. I tried to change it the Fold 4 today when it was at 25% battery and I saw charging speeds of 17 to 18.5 watts usually. Which brand of charger are you using Tyler? I'm using a Spigen Power Arc one rated for 45 W. You might be on to something about battery protection, maybe it's for battery protection and longevity to charge in wattage tiers. So the fast charge kicks in to get you out of a pinch, then it normalizes later for the rest of the charge? I haven't owned any of the other flagships with 65W or 80W charging to know if they charge in the same manner and how battery performance is like on those devices long-term.

    The official case is kind of stupid for Samsung!!
    You want a case that protects the whole phone correct?
    Well a lot of these phone cases including the Samsung official case DOES NOT PROTECT THE HINGE AND IT EVEN STICKS OUT!!
    If you drop your phone and you will you're going to beat the hell out of that hinge and it's going to get ruined..
    So get a case from Amazon that has hinge protection.
    My favorite is the Spigen S Pen slim pro.. pro means it has the hinge protection.
    If you don't want the S Pen they got the same version without the S Pen slot
    The S-Pen slot for the pro version is towards the front of the phone on the fold so it makes it a little bit wider.. when the phone is closed it would be the same with with the S Pen let's say as the s22 ultra..
    I mean the S Pen is pretty freaking big.. I have no idea why they made it that big.. why couldn't they make the S Pen the size of the 22 ultra so they can make smaller cases..
    I mean next year with the Galaxy fold 5 it looks like they're going to have the S Pen built in which is smaller..
    I just don't get it...

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  Рік тому +1

      I get the frustration. Not only is the hinge left unprotected, I made a review about how the top or front cover kept popping off when I applied pressure to fold it. The way the official case housed the S Pen also felt like an afterthought instead of a properly planned design. With the Pen on the back, wireless charging is more cumbersome, same with placing the phone in a phone holder in the car. I really want a wider Fold so they can house a smaller S Pen in the body like with the S22 Ultra. Hopefully the next generation is more polished with the case and S Pen.

    This fold really isn't big enough if you watch videos such as YT or Disney+. The inner screen needs to be at least 8 inches otherwise if you were to watch a wide screen movie such as Doctor Strange the video is actually smaller than on the S22 Ultra which defeats the purpose of having a foldable. It's definitely better for social media such as Instagram or to read the news, just not good for watching videos, I hope Samsung make the Z Fold 5 bigger, maybe a Z Fold 5 Ultra or something for the power user.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  2 роки тому +1

      This is an excellent point and something that not enough people pointed out (including myself). Due to the screen's aspect ratio, sometimes watching a video without cropping, isn't that much different than watching on the S22 Ultra unless you rotate it to get a bit more pixels. Like you said, the screen is great for social media. Also good for gaming.
      Until I held it in my hand, I didn't realize how narrow the phone was when folded. It definitely can go a bit wider to have a wider front cover, larger inner display and increased battery capacity. The Xiaomi Mi Mix 2 actually looks pretty enticing to me too, but I'm not sure how good their software is and how it'd fare in terms of longevity long-term.

    I'm tempted but still not convinced it's worth parting with my Note 20u. I worry about fragility/durability and ability to use the front keyboard with my fat fingers!

      Hey Anton, thank you, I'm glad it was helpful. Yeah it might not be a bad idea to wait until the S23 comes out, then you can decide if it's worth the upgrade to the S23 and hopefully by that time the fold 4 price will drop and they will add more bonuses in Australia to sell them. Then you can decide between the S23 Ultra or Fold 4.
      It's my first fold and it feels quite durable and premium when folded, but once open I feel like I have to be more mindful of it so that I don't bang into something since it becomes thin in the hands unfolded. I think I'll get over that feeling with time though.

    You know of course it's going to weigh more it's literally two phones hinged together two in one basically that probably also explains the $2,000 that z flip that they also have is not doing very well at all I see all these ads and they're always showing that phone and the price just decreases the most recent one I saw was 400 so that one is not doing well but that was expected first time I saw the flip I thought it was the stupidest thing because there's literally no point to the flip being able to fold unless it's just for the sake of folding. The z fold however has a purpose and a reason. You know I actually saw an article talking about the s22 as well saying that this 22 has reached its lowest price. So I'm guessing the z fold is going to create a new standard for smartphones. I've even read articles where lifelong Apple users are now switching but that doesn't surprise me. If you really take a look at regular smartphones they are not really so different from what they were 5 years ago the z fold is the newest thing I'm happy to see it I really thought we were getting to the end where they just wouldn't be able to do much more with smartphones but they surprised me yet again

      Hey Pothead Princess 420, yea you're right about traditional smartphone innovations. There isn't much change to form factor each year, it's usually just the camera module layout that differentiates phones. Even more so when you put on a case and all you can see of the design is the camera module. Foldable phones are definitely a welcome change. It was a bit sad to see LG stop making phones because their scrollable / expandable screen seemed pretty innovative going in that direction instead of folding. Yea, the Flip will really only appeal if you want as small a package as possible, but then they actually have real competition in that department from the Motorola RAZR.

I'm pretty sure the z-fold is going to end up sitting a new standard I mean it's so versatile. I also heard somewhere that apple is going to stick with the clamshell so I read somewhere apples going to produce a foldable phone but they're going to only produce ones that are like the z flip I'm sure that won't happen but the article was quite interesting. I returned my Fold 4 and the main reason is because not all apps are fully optimized yet for the folding phones. Especially on social media apps. They just zoomed in the app rather than optimize the interface of the apps even if you change the aspect ratio in the settings. A lot of contents that you see in the social media apps are also either cut out or just too big and covers the whole app. I also use Nova Launcher in my previous Samsung phone, and unfortunately that is also not optimized. Also the front screen is too narrow for me. Besides these personal issues, it's a beauty of a premium looking folding phone with crystal clear display and super fast operating system. Nine out of ten times you won't notice the crease either, you will see at it and get used to it just like the notch. If they only optimize the user interface of the social media apps, and make the folding phone a little bit shorter and wider this would be a no brainer.

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Lashrom, I hear you. The phone looks and feels super premium, but yea some popular needs need better optimization to give submenus or sub layouts to truly make it a fantastic experience. I can use the front screen, but once I put on a protective case, it makes front screen usage a bit more challenging to tap the far edges of the screen. I really hope that the next version has slightly wider screens so that it's even wider unfolded. If they can make the screen wider, maybe they can fit in a slim s pen too later.

The S22 Ultra has tons of stuff going for it:

If you use your phone for maps or directions while driving, you'll likely want to buy a special phone holder for the Fold since the front screen is a bit small for maps. Second thing is, if you always use your phone in bed before going to bed, if you leave it folded, it can get tiring to hold in your hand with the thickness, and unfolding it in bed doesn't make it an easy one-handed operation for night time winding down. I kinda thought the same before I got it because I like designs to be seamless, but it gets less noticeable after a while. You really see it in dark backgrounds. I heard the Z Fold 5 is supposed to have no crease, but only time will tell if that's true.

    Did you get a 1 or 2 year Samsung Care+ Plan? Here in the Philippines, the pre-order promo includes a free 1 year Samsung Care+ but you can extend it to a 2 year plan for $200 which is 50% off included in the promo, originally a 2 year SC+ is $400. Do you think it's worth it to upgrade to a 2 year SC+ for $200, I'm planning to trade-in my S22(regular). Thanks!

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  2 роки тому +1

      Hey Paolo, mine came with the 1 year plan I believe, but I didn't upgrade it to two years because I will likely trade it in for the Z Fold 5 next year to review, and I wasn't sure if the warranty would transfer over.
      If you plan on keeping your phone for 2 years at least, I think it would be worth the upgrade, especially if it is your first foldable phone just in case anything goes wrong like you drop it, flex the screen too much, etc.

    How is it with zoom in tab mode?

    • @DemCrumblies
      @DemCrumblies  Рік тому

      Hi Shar Marie, the zoom works well in tab mode. Overall, it's just great for taking photos and videos in tab mode because you can see what's in focus and frame better. I haven't really used this phone for content creation since I have a dedicated camera. This phone may be trickier to use for static shots like overhead or on an tripod since it's thicker and most phone holders cannot accommodate the size (especially if you put a case on it). If you unfold it to make it thinner, you run into a problem again where most phone holders cannot accommodate a phone this wide. If you want to use it on the go with a gimbal, you might run into similar issues. A traditional form factor phone may be easier for content creation since most accessories are designed for non-folding phones.

    Was seriously considering purchasing the fold 4 but had reservations. I had an uber trip where the driver was displaying his map on the fold...thought...done! I gotta get me wanna dem. Started researching and came upon this video.
    For me: Fold: 1. Cool factor? fold is 2nd to none. 2. Multi screen: huge bonus. 3. Swipe mode for texting with one finger is probably much easier on the front screen due to a smaller width (thumb can reach full keyboard easily.) 4. Gaming looks more fun. 5. Sound probably is best of any phone. 6. Camera: Having subjects watch their framing is yoooooj!
    S22: 1. in 16:9 ratio, actually a bigger screen! 2. Camera options with zoom much better (question is if it's 3x optical and then digitally augmented, is it really better? seems so) 3. Fits in pocket better. 4. no huge transition issues from Note 10. 5. pen is integrated.
    Answer after reading reviews etc I'm not impressed with either enough to purchase one from the note 10. I wanted to give my son my ten for Christmas so that he can upgrade his note 8, but honestly, when I saw the standard 16:9 video was actually smaller on the fold it broke my heart. I was really leaning towards it. Well, maybe not actually broke my heart...just a slight electrical shock. I'll probably go play at best buy and see if I can pull the trigger, but I thought Elon was bringing out the Pi phone soon and was waiting for that. Apparently T-mobile is working with starlink to connect. Elon has been a bit busy lately with twitter, so Pi is probably farther on the horizon.
    I'll update my thoughts and actions if anyone is interested.

      Hey Kevin, yea best thing is to try it out in person to know for sure. I definitely feel like the Fold 4 should have had a slightly wider screen like some of the phones coming out from Xiaomi and Honor. I think the S22 Ultra still has lots going for it (telephoto camera, built in S-Pen in the body, on sale now too). I don't think anyone should rush to get the Z Fold 4 unless you really think you will unfold the screen often to utilise it. I'm actually surprised that I use the cover screen most of the time. Yea the huge screen does in handy for certain situations, but not enough for me to say it's worth it. I'm probably not the power user that would typically buy a Fold phone though.

      I think you are confusing the 16:9, by no means does the fold have the smaller screen in 16:9 content, in fact, if you put 16:9 on the 22U and zoom in, in addition to losing the content, the screen is still fine smaller, I can say that because one of my interests in the fold is the consumption of content, mainly animes that are 16:9, I put the 22U and the fold 4 side by side running darling in the franxx both without the zoom, and man, the the fold's screen is considerably larger than the 22U's.

    • @DemCrumblies

      @@hyllen Hey Hyllen, I maybe didn't specify or show clearly in the video, but I just measured the same video on both phones and the S22 Ultra has a slightly larger video size when measured diagonally even without zooming in to fill the vertical black bars on the side (about 15 CM for the S22 Ultra vs 14 CM for the Z Fold 4). However when the same video is put full screen on the Z Fold 4 and when the phone is opened up and rotated, the Z Fold 4 is indeed quite larger at around 17 CM diagonally. Hope that makes sense.
