Hey guys I stuck it out to the end 😆 glad I did but I always do as I support the channel like always! . I myself have the 65" h9g although I can't wait to get my 75" sony x95k this summer. The hisense H9G has done a good job for a tv under $1,000. There are issues with it but I bought the tcl 6 series and found the h9g had better blacks! Also Kristi that's a great point you made, some people have a tight budget and everyone telling them this is a bedroom tv isn't fair. If this is the only tv in your budget be proud of what you got as you bought and spent your hard earned money! Thanks again guys for the great video!!!

I'm rockin' a 65" Insignia Fire TV in my living room and a 60" in my bedroom, I got them for about $360 and $340 a year apart at best buy, because TV is nice and all, but in the grand scheme... IDGAF much about tv. Has a picture☑ Relatively easy to use☑ Has 2 or more HDMI ports ☑ = Done.

Poorly designed or decrepitly slow software is the bane of just about every modern TV on the market. I would much rather have a “dumb” tv where the software is light and speedy controlling only input switching and picture quality. Third party streaming hardware is much more robust and agile than anything built into a “smart” tv.

@@mitchbuchannon6637 so…what happens if TCL and Google cannot agree on the next licensing deal or a future version of Google TV requires more horsepower than the paltry chip in the TV can offer? Smart TVs are a bad across the board because the underpowered chips and bad software will always be a limitation far before the panel itself reaches obsolescence. I d much rather replace a $100 streaming box every few years than my whole TV.

I watch all of your reviews, but TV reviews are special and always make me smile.
My dad would send me outside to turn the antenna from Buffalo toward Rochester because a different football game was on. We got 3 channels in each direction.
All 6 channels were blurry and riddled by snow. If there were 2 games on at the same time I laid on the floor waiting for a commercial, as I was the remote.
I was fortunate to have a TV in my bedroom, a 12 in black and white with tin foil taped to the rabbit ears for better reception.
It is certainly impressive that the television has advanced to the point of being reviewed.😊

You know why I really appreciate your videos? You have the knowledge, at or above many hifi snobs but yet always keep it realistic. When you have personally used speakers and equipment in the multi thousand dollar range, you have no issues appreciating cheaper options and understanding just how much diminishing returns kick in.
Too many people sold by the audiophile name, the fame, or the word of mouth of those who decided to take a second mortgage for something and need to justify its cost.
An example I am running Crown amps in my setup, something I know you have (or still are) done, and a audiophile would cringe at this idea. Also for an AVR I am using a TX-RZ50 less than half the cost of pre/pro with features that are hard to find even on the best processors.
If you can build a full blow AVR for under $1500 why should a processor cost nearly 5K for the same features? There absolutely has to be price inflation added, its not cost of components.
I also like that you always bring your other half in for their opinion, perfect way to do things.

Hey I’ve been looking at tvs a lot lately and I believe the U7G is a class above this just remember that from what I’ve read hisense has really bad customer service so get a warranty plan from a store like Best Buy or insurance plan for the future because they also have bad QC. I’ve had a TCL 43” 4k tv and their customer service was quick and no questions asked. They sent me a TV quickly. U7G is 120hz and that’s a game changer when you’re talking about gaming. Spec to spec this tv is better comparable to the u6 series. I’m in between this (65”) and a 65” U6G which I’ve been waiting a month for my living room from Best Buy. They’ve been delayed and lying to businesses like Best Buy to give you an idea of who they are. Hisense make amazing tvs but there’s some caveats. Also important to consider this is just my experience.

I got a TV with hi-fi quality speakers for my parents; but that was in the last century. In 1983 I had a Philips modular set where the receiver and speakers were separate from the screen. With flat screen TVs the speakers are just up from the beeper on a PC.
Even with monitors it is hard to get a large screen without built in speakers and an operating system to battle and then you pay double to a similar size TV.
I when from a 24" monitor and 49" TV 1080p to 32" and 65" 4K monitors. Working with a 65" touch panel is so useful.

I ended up going with the Hisense U8G when it was under $1000 over the holidays. I found that the top brands had a presence in this price range but were mainly focused on their higher tier models in terms of performance. Under $1200 seems to be where TCL and Hisense are making their mark in terms of price to performance. For me Vizio is my go to for under $500 range.

Hi Andrew & Kristi, First off as a "recovered" audiophile I have enjoyed your channel. A bit surprised to see this review of the TCL 5 series. Couple of years ago I bought a new construction and added a TCL 5 (65), 2 - 4's (43) all 4K sets, and one 3 series (32). Roku (and Fire stick) equiped no glitches, fast response, and very good picture quality on every set with minimal adjustment.
Best of all, total cost was less than $1,200 so IMHO mid-range can have a lot of value - TCL rocks!

I have a 55" TCL TV in the 4 series and am happy with it. It gets bright enough for me and the colors look accurate with pleasing skin tones. The Google TV implementation is sluggish but I purchased a Roku Ultra and a Firestick (on sale for $25) as alternates. I do hate the TV remote, which is thin and slippery.
I compared the TCL to an equivalent Hisense and much preferred the TCL picture. I also viewed the higher end TCL 5 series with the larger screens and was pleased with what I saw. They are as good as any Samsung product I previewed at Costco.
Thanks for the review on the 5 series. I will be in the market for a large screen TV when my 10-year-old 92" DLP TV quits on me, so I'm always on the lookout for reviews of large screen TVs at reasonable prices.

In late July I picked up the TCL 65s546 for less money than basic non-QLED Tv's such as LG, Samsung or Fire TV offered by several brands in Canada. Canadian TV prices for 65" or bigger are sky high at the moment. Two large retailers, were price competing and I purchased the unit at a real store 2 miles away. Thus far after owning for 6 weeks, OS software update 3 days ago, the experience is outstanding for colour picture without adjustments. I find the colour provided by the TV's native Google OS superior to the Firestick OS. Not by much however. The Google OS sotware may lag on startup. Every instance of connecting or disconnecting an HDMI device the TV must be restarted or AC cord unplugged. I just replaced my HDMI ARC cable connected to a Pioneer receiver with a 2.0 cable. TCL support has been outstanding and they indicated 2.0 was required. They were right. The Firestick OS for control of soundbars and Receivers is the best. It actually shuts them off completely and powers on all devices with no issue. I have owned other brands of TV's and not one has been able to power off a soundbar connected by TOS LINK audio cable. The recent OS update for Canada has increased the detailed options for selecting audio output, speaker, headphone, ARC etc. I had not found these settings prior to update. Overall I am pleased with the TV. I just ordered a Yamaha soundbar to eliminate the receiver connection. We will see if that helps the TV power on the audio device connection. Years ago I had a 7.2 setup and eliminated that and settled on basic stereo for listening so receiver is not required. The TV does all it should and upscaling our basic SD Netflix works well. Disney + and Amazon Prime in Canada provide their best video at one price point. HDR 4K content is super on these two services. Football on TV network streaming services is WOW as well. No cable box connected at this TV. We have a cable subscription but TCL Apps provide all major Canadian networks for addition to your APPS. Considering the cost of purchase (currency exchange down in the dumps) for major branded TV's in Canada, at this time, TCL provided a QLED TV at a reasonable cost.

I purchased a 75" Samsung Q6DA. Basically being the first TV I had ever purchased and being in desperate need of one at the time, for $1100 just before the Super Bowl sales, seemed like a pretty solid deal. Particularly before learning that this TV was essentially created to be sold in big name stores like Costco, Walmart, and BJ's. Still no real complaints. Great channel! 👍🤘

I got a Roku 65” 4K back in 2017. It’s my first 4K tv and it was a great intro into the world of 4K buuuut I’ve been saving up money to eventually get a flagship tv. I kind of want to wait a couple more years and see what Micro LED develops into, it sounds more appealing than OLED. But my Roku will be just fine in the meantime, I even watch my DVDs and VHS tapes on it and it works great

Hi Andrew and Kristi! Greetings from Sweden..Great videos and really good to hear 2 viewpoints.
I searched but didn't see if anybody asked you about your viewing distance, how far do you sitt from your tv? I´m currently debating between a 65 and 77 lg oled, distance to tv is roughly 10 feet but having a hard time deciding. I watch 70% tv shows on netflix, hbo etc 10% cable (720p, 1080i mostly sports) and 20 % movies. My biggest concern is watching 16:9 tv shows on a 77 inch, afraid that it will feel to big with fullscreen content..

I feel like people just buy TCL, Visio or Hisense because it's the cheapest with the best specs on paper. But TV specs don't necessarily translate into perceivable picture quality. It's sometimes the opposite. Be concerned about cheap TVs with high refresh rate panels. Anyways, you can often find a Samsung or Panasonic TV on sale (with lower specs but better colors and contrast) for the price of a TCL. Buying a TV is confusing as heck.

Thanks for reviewing TCL TV. I have been buying that brand since before the advent of smart TV's and never been disappointed in price and/or quality. My latest is a 50" bought in April of 2020 for $246.00 which I placed over the fireplace in my bedroom. It's a Roku system and I have no problems with it. The built in speakers are terrible, so I brought an older Onkyo TX-SR 309 out or retirement, built a cabinet and speakers stands and used a pair of Klipsch R-51M which I had bought for close to nothing plus a Sony 4K player that was sitting in a closet and for less than $400.00 I have a system which I enjoy quite a lot and, with the exception of vinyl, I can listen to anything I like and watch endless movies streaming and in discs.
And, in conclusion, I give the edge to Kristi in judging this TV, less specs and lots of common sense go a long way!

I know a lot of folks would typically agree, though I have to say some of my "cheaper" VIZIO TVs from back in the day outlasted all of my TVs from the likes of Samsung. Again, this was years ago and everyone's experience is bound to be different, suffice to say, there are only SO MANY manufacturers of the actual panels in the world, so even when you're buying a lesser brand there's a good chance the panel is sourced from the same place as more respected brands.

The colors seem accurate especially skin tones (I do a lot of photography so I have a decent eye), it's bright enough, it's really sharp without looking "sharp" and it outputs Atmos to my Amp all for like $500. Turn off all the motion stuff and yes the menus are a little slow but you get used to it pretty quick and then forget about it, but its pretty hard to beat. Sure OLED and QLED looks amazing in the stores, but when you get home you forget about that stuff.

Great video. As for the question of the day. Last summer I won a Klipsch cinenma 1200 soundbar. Deciding to use it in my living, I wanted to hang my 75 inch and the sound bar on the wall. I don't know how but when I turned on the TV, the screen on the inside was cracked. I just bought a projector for my basment theater so I didn't really want to spend anymore money so I grabbed a "budget" tv ( I wouldn't care if I was a billionaire. 800 dollars isn't budget) the Hisense - 65" Class U6G. It's not a bad tv. Around the same time My In-laws bought a LG CX ( I think), it's nowhere near that level but it works for me.
It's the Android OS, but I mostly use a RoKu player. Mostly because Spectrum TV app in only available on the Roku and Xbox. Either, I don't have a negative opinion about either OS. Neither are bad nor are they great. They're just meh. The roku does have a media player app that makes it easy to get to my kids football, F.I.R.T.S Robotics Team, and band videos that are on my nas. The Android doesn't. Some might say use PLEX, but PLEX sucks.

My 8 year old 58 inch £2500 Panasonic IPS tv recently developed an annoying, intermittent fault. My trusted local dealer advised to replace rather than repair, because of the massive technological advancements in tv panels over the last 8 years. He also advised to go for the entry level model, as the ratio of increased performance to cost was prohibited. I took his advice. I purchased the entry level Panasonic 65 inch OLEDit cost me half what that 8 year old LED/LCD panel cost me. His quote matched any on-line quote plus he delivered and installed at no extra expense. The difference in picture quality between the new and old set is, literally, night and day. I’m not saying that if I had paid twice as much for the top of the range, I wouldn’t have noticed a difference, but there is really nothing to complain about with the model he recommended.
My main concern with buying an entry level OLED even though it was from a premium or A-list brand, was brightness issues. Let me assure you, there is absolutely no issue with brightness with this set. It’s far more vibrant than the outgoing Ips set and out shines the LG LED/LCD tv we purchased for the bedroom 6 weeks ago!
My message is, spending more money does not guarantee more satisfaction! Oh, as for the sound quality, it’s acceptable, but not anything special, and the audio was seriously upgraded on the models higher in the range. But, my dealer knew that and advised me accordingly. He had sold me and installed over the years my ‘high end’??? hifi system, he knew that when better audio reproduction I already had the equipment to facilitate it.

As a disclaimer, I haven't spent any time with a modern high end tv. That said, we recently bought both a 50" Samsung Frame, and a 55" TCL 5 series (Roku). The Samsung was twice as expensive as the TCL. The Samsung is undoubtedly the cooler of the two TVs - Art (and Ambient) mode is freaking cool, and really does an excellent job of tricking your mind into not thinking of it as a TV when you're not actively using it - so it works perfectly in the main living room that functions more as a gathering/socializing space than a dedicated viewing room. The Samsung also has a more in depth calibration mode - after calibration I think(?) I can tell that the Samsung has a more neutral color palette than the TCL. Honestly, though, when using both as just TVs for casual viewing? Whatever differences there may be in picture quality are negligible. We end up watching the TCL more often, because it's bigger and it's the one that's connected to the big speakers. :)

I think different people value different performance levels, some people will be happy with the cheapest largest TV they can get because it's big and that's what matters while other people only buy OLED for the maximum picture quality and contrast.

We've got one in the living room. I'm fussy about the stereo that it's hooked up to, but haven't gone down the rabbit hole of TV picture quality. It's possible that I don't have the energy to require perfection in all things.

I had this tv and it started having issues with the audio out to the dac via optical out within 4 months.
Decent TV for the price, software is very slow.
And it’s not real qled for the record btw.
Plus it has hdr but you can’t really tell difference between hdr and sdr.
    Had to return it.

And what most forget is almost all TV’s sold today are more capable then the daily quality of picture content they will display. Most regular TV channels even in 4K are not great… so many other variables too, distance, internet connection, etc

Hey Andrew I got a new set-up and didn't realize you have a deep voice. How do I keep deeper voices out of the sub, and yet have the sub still rock when needed?

    • @robinsonbrand
      @robinsonbrand  2 роки тому +1

Maybe change your crossover point between your main speakers and subwoofer? I don't know what speakers you have so I can't say for certain, but yes, my voice has a tendency to fall within a lot of system's crossover point.

@@robinsonbrand thanks for the response. Also your production level is out of this world. Watching several TV shows and movies didn't reveal the sub/speaker crossover issue, until your videos and Disney/Pixar movies. Your videos have fantastic sound editing.

It gonna be better because TCL been making Roku TV's forever and this is one of TCL first google TV's
      .
Also make sure it's the 2022 version... the 2021 roku version has around half the brightness so it's pretty dim .... TV... even tho they both cost about the same...

    • @mangakey
      @mangakey Рік тому

@@gigidope Yeah sure if you have the money to spend price difference is about 250$ more... You get much higher brighter screen that will really make HDR content pop, you can put it in bright room and it will still look great... Also 120hz support....
Only thing it shared some of the weakness of the 5 series... In that still has poor viewing angles and the google version is still kinda slow....
