Thank you again for having me as a guest on the channel, what a fun day!! ❤ I see a lot of comments about other tracks on the album, I'll have to give it another listen as it's been years. I tried listening a few times but wasn't too impressed, but willing to give it another shot!
Tomato has a different sound due the the instruments being used. Rick Wakeman was using a PolyMoog synth and a Birotron. Which were considered new and state of the art at that time. Some people say the keyboard sounds are thin and cheesy sounding. Also Chris Squire was using a Mutron phaser on his bass which gave it a different tone than previous records. Steve Howe was also using different guitars and his tones are real trebly. He has commented that he's not wild about his playing and would have probably done things differently.
One other thing. Many years later they found out that Eddy Offord used Dolby when recording the basic tracks but he left during the of making the album. When they mixed it they didn't know he had used Dolby so they mixed it without Dolby which gives it a more trebly sound. It love the album. One of favorites.
It's Chris Squire and Rick Wakeman on this song and album. It's the final studio album for the classic lineup of Anderson, Howe, Squire, White, and Wakeman. The movie Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) had just come out and I've always felt this movie inspired this song. Tormato was, in my opinion, a misunderstood album. Fans had become accustomed to the longer masterpiece themes like Close to the Edge, and Awaken, and I think they were surprised that this album was more traditional in format. However, again in my opinion, there are some outstanding tracks on this album indicative of Yes's creativity and virtuoso musicianship, such as Don't Kill the Whale, On the Silent Wings of Freedom, and Future Times/Rejoice. Not my favorite classic lineup studio album, but its hard for me to dislike anything the classic lineup has ever produced.
Tormato has some great tracks 😎On the Silent wings of freedom / Release Release /Circus of Heaven. Rick Wakeman seen a UFO so the band come up with this track !! very apt for the Star Wars outer space theme /period nice to see a different Collaboration 🙏
Loads of fun with Lex and Lee for a new wrinkle. What a blast to meet Lee and a cool song from an album that gets mixed reviews sometimes. It’s a record where I think it’s just another example of them trying to stretch their musical muscles. Chris Square is always awesome. Loads of fun a nice job and a very cool T-shirt Lee. Alexia is fabulous as always.👍👍
"It's very synthy" Rick is playing the new (at the time) Polymoog synth on this. You're used to hear him playing mono synths (MiniMoog - one note at a time). The Polymoog was Moog's first polyphonic synth and Rick was a very early adopter. He also plays a new version of the Mellotron called the Birotron which he had a hand in producing. It tried to overcome the 8 second limitation of held notes of the Mellotron (that was based on the length of the tape and could only play once before needing to reset). The PolyMoog was also prominent on Gary Newman's big hit "Cars". "On the Silent Wings of Freedom", also from Tormato, is quite a rocker that includes some of Chris Squire's best work. Peace from SF
And we have a new channel, it's LexnLee. You guys must be careful, or you'll have more personnel changes than Yes! Welcome Lee, it must have been a lot of fun to do some videos with the maestros! Great song choice from a hugely underrated album, all the outstanding songs not featured yet on the channel deserve to be covered. I'm not sure if I agree that this is a radical change to the classic Yes sound, more a late seventies makeover coloured by new technology. I'm still pushing for complete album reviews of 'Drama', '90125' and 'Big Generator' from the 80's, and 'Talk' from the 90's PLUS the 'Anderson Bruford, Wakeman, Howe album from '89.
@richarddobson815 I promise I'm not a replacement! Haha. Thanks for the welcome. Honestly I haven't heard the rest of Tormato in years, it never really excited me too much aside from this track. I feel like this song in particular was much different than their prior work, but I can't speak for the other songs. You're right, LOTS of great Yes to explore!
Tormato was the last of the classic lineup of Jon, Chris, Steve, Rick and Alan for quite sone time. Remember that the late 70’s featured Alien Encounters and the emergence of Star Wars and Star Trek movies so space and aliens were a huge deal at the tine and Yes was down for it. If you liked this you’ll dig Don’t Kill The Whale esp. the live version on YesShows.
This song is the most indicative of this unique album. It's ALWAYS good to know the order of YES albums to understand how they kept reinventing & evolving. This was released in late 1978 & was on their LAST 70's album, TORMATO with the same primary classic lineup! Anderson, Squire, Wakeman, Howe and White. It was controversial & received less popular support among fans because once again YES were attempting new ideas and focused on creating shorter songs. The Band themselves say that during this period the collaborative relationships between Members had become more difficult and they weren't as cohesive as a group. Jon soon departed and Rick left again after this album only to rejoin years later. Initially, It took me awhile to appreciate this more disjointed full album but individually there are still some wonderfully strange, beautiful & complex songs on it
Always liked Tormato. Different for sure, and this song kicks off the album. I believe "Don't Kill the Whale" was most popular, because of it's relevance at the time. My favorite is "Release, Release", because of the high energy jamming!.
This song was great in the Round during the tourmato. Jon staying put in the center of the stage playing acoustic, as it slowly spun around allowing all seats to get a good view of the musicians. Rick had the keytar dueling with Steve, and Chris pounced around his corner? of the round with phase shifter shifting in stereo, while Alan kept it all coherent. I don't know why it didn't appear on later setlists. It's like Soundchaser with Rick!
This was fun. Yes is one of my favorite bands but I agree with Lex there is no substitute for Jon Anderson. This song wouldn't be the same without Jon. Love the shirt Lee. Thank you both for making my day. 😀
Happy you enjoyed the reaction (and the shirt). Yes is one of my favorite bands as well but I prefer the older albums. I wanted to share something completely different with Lex and this song has always been special to me.
Wow Lexi! There are parts (including the "Classical" parts towards the end that Howe plays on the guitar) that I was trying just now, how to describe; "How do Yes (and other bands) make topics such as this or about Space, Space Travel and Space/Sci-Fi, 'sound' ___________?" And that word you hit right on the head . . . "Galactic"! That is why I love this song and the subject matter. Right on Lex! :D Apparently: _"Arriving UFO" is based on a tune that Anderson had developed, inspired to write a science-fiction song having seen Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) twice. Wakeman wrote the instrumental section._ One of my personal all time fave films as well. I love the "reprise" at the end and Howe's weird sounds :). Yes, that was Cray-cray 🙃. "Tormato" was an album a bit hit and miss, overall I can listen to it, but UFO, "Onward", "On the Silent Wings of Freedom", "Future Times"/"Rejoice" are the standouts for me, and there is something about "Circus in Heaven", which Jon had a notion to do a song aimed for children, which was inspired by a Ray Bradbury book that Jon read to his son Damion. Wiki seems to have a very comprehensive page on the album, but I could have sworn the band had a contentious time making it (as I read-on, it does say that on the page). They basically "Broke Up" after this album and a couple years later produced one of my fave albums "Drama", without Jon. The album that actually made me go backwards into their catalogue in 1980. - Lex . . . your ears and reception has grown leaps and bounds :). Thanks Lee! Good to see Lex getting into more Yes (and heck yes its Prog!) :D Folks, if you see strange lights in the sky . . . ua-cam.com/play/PL2DU3TBNutEc41uDCV6zXBE7szSm2o8Zc.html 🪐🌠
Can't believe I never thought about Close Encounters. I remember seeing it in the theater, I also had the amazing soundtrack on vinyl. For a long time, I would have flashbacks whenever I ate mashed potatoes!!
I forgot about much of the Tormato offerings. It's amazing to hear this song again after all these years. Here the background en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tormato Squire and Wakeman were still there.
Today is actually the 45th anniversary of my seeing the Tormato tour from the front row in Philadelphia on the third night of sellout shows at the Spectrum. I couldn’t go the 21st the night they filmed and recorded the show. I had to attend my high school graduation. Yes was my favorite band from early 70’s to today. I never missed them except once when in town from ‘75 to I think until about 2013. Jon had been replaced by that point and I’m like you Lex Jon Anderson is the most important instrument in the band. Lex I wanted to send you some of my Yes items because I appreciate your connecting with my favorite band a generation later. Gives me hope their early year stuff live forever. Imagine The Yes Album, Fragile, Close to the Edge, Yessongs and Takes and Relayer being released in three years. ‘71 to ‘74 taking a break for solo albums then retuning with Going for the one and Tormato in ‘77 and ‘78. Touring every year still including the Philly bicentennial show with Peter Frampton at JFK stadium in July of ‘76 120k I think. Chris said that show was recorded and filmed and the tapes got lost during editing. Lex if there is a way I can send you a package an address on one of your sites tell me where to find it. Thanks others in the Yes super fan family for continuing to help their memories and music to be appreciated by so many new people.
Wow how awesome that we posted this on the anniversary of your concert!! 😁 Thanks for the info and support, great to have you along for the journey!! Really appreciate you wanting to send something 😊, here is the address: Alexia Flores 9615 East County Line Road Suite B-531 Centennial, CO 80112
Yesterday I was just thinking that it's been 45 yrs. since I saw Yes. I was in the 9th row in the stadium seats at the U of I in Champaign, IL. When the rotating stage stopped at the end of the concert, it looked like Jon Anderson was eye level with me and looking straight at me. Tickets were only $10.
I just saw a video about the making of the Relayer album yesterday. Found out that when Yes played at JFK Stadium with Peter Frampton with 120 in attendance in 1976, Yes filmed it but the tape got lost when editing.
Love that Gentle Giant T-Shirt! Gentle Giant is one of my favorite bands. Grew up listening to them. Love this Yes song! The Tormato album is really good! Great choice!
@@shiftingperception I wouldn't have either. I do have two Gentle Giant T-shirts. In A Glass House and Power and the Glory t-shirts. I wear them all the time…LOL!
@@michaelgray5100Sweet! I think I talk about Gentle Giant in one of the reactions I did with Nick (he will post it soon). Three Friends is my 3rd favorite album of all time, Power and the Glory is 4th. Just mind-blowing! Not too familiar with Glass House yet - I have heard it a couple times but not enough.
Wakeman: "I would love to get hold of that album and have it remixed. There is some fabulous stuff on there. 'Arriving UFO' is a great track and could have been one of the great Yes stage features of all time, but it suffered on the record." Music critic/journalist Chris Welch found Tormato to be a strange album full of surprises, "none more so than 'Arriving UFO'... It remains an imaginative and exciting piece, unlike anything Yes had done before." Tormato was Yes' fastest selling album and earned US platinum certification in two months.
My first thought - wtf did NIck do to his hair? 😅 This is my least favorite album of the classic Yes lineup, but still has some good tracks and this is one of them. It definitely is the classic lineup of that time - Anderson, Squire, Wakeman, Howe, White. Lots of changes to come after this release. Good to see Lex digging the bass - top notch reaction as always!
Coupla things: of COURSE it's Chris, and of COURSE it's Rick (you cannot ignore the polymoog, plus his vaudevillian licks). You have to remember that 77-78 was an explosion for Sci-Fi, Star Wars and Close Encounters (Yes used Close Encounters music instead of Firebird for the Tormato tour intro music), and this track is a reflection of that: the band swore they saw a UFO one night. Nerd callback alert: the chord sequence behind the guitar solo at 07:44 (and later under the "look out" outro) is pretty much identical to the chord sequence of the slow bass solo at the beginning, as well as the main verse, of Heart of the Sunrise.
That's cool trivia! For me, it just sounds so different than the albums that came before I wasn't sure. Plus I'm not super familiar with this album aside from this track. Thanks!!
You me and my cousin Dupree miss Jon Anderson with YES. I was lucky enough to see Jon with the classic YES lineup on the Tormato tour in June of 1979. At first because of the muddled sound production I was not thrilled with the album. Later when they improved the production I really like most of the songs including this unusual tune! Rick, Chris, Jon,Steve, and Alan are all on the album. Rick Kraft the band for over a decade until he was on the ABWH album which, don’t tell Chris, was a YES album unofficially because Chris would not allow them to call it a YES album!
This this song was recorded not long after the release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind,Hence the UFO vibe etween the pair as a result. Mel Brooks recalled in an interview: “One of my favorite lines in the whole movie is when Cleavon asks him, ‘What do you do for fun?’ Gene goes, ‘Screw, and play chess.’ And Cleavon says, ‘Let’s play chess.’ It’s all in Gene’s delivery. That’s why it’s so funny.” The bit in which Wilder says “you know, morons” when talking about racists, Little was not warned about the punchline. His laughter was genuine. Interestingly, Gene Wilder was not the first choice for The Waco Kid. Production began with Gig Young cast in the role. On the first day of filming the scene where the drunken Waco Kid hangs from a bunk, Young, who had struggled with alcoholism for years, revealed he was actually drunk and collapsed on set. Mel Brooks recounted, "On the first day of shooting... we hung him upside down in the jail cell, and green stuff started spewing out of his mouth." Young's agent tried to defend him by stating he was a recovering alcoholic, to which Brooks responded that he wasn't recovered yet. Brooks halted production for a day, and Gene Wilder flew cross-country to take over the role. “On Monday morning, eight o’clock, he was hanging upside down,” Brooks said of Wilder. “We only lost a half a day, because I’d covered with Cleavon the other half of that first day - his close-ups, his entrance. Gene just hooked his boots, hung down and said, ‘Are we black?’ “He saved my life, because he’s not only a genius actor, but he’s a good friend. And he never said, ‘I told you so.’ He was magnificent.”counters of the third kind, hence the space vibe
Nick & Lex - Oh Lex, how did you find such a wonderful Nick Part II? I wouldn't have thought it would be so easy to replace my buddy Nick, but you did :) No, just kidding. Lee, it is a pleasure to meet you and you looked as though you were very comfortable in front of the camera. I saw your comment about Tormato. You should give it another try. I truly enjoy Circus of Heaven, while others don't. Thanks for this fun reaction. Your friend, Ken
@kendudley3553 Wow that's a very cool comment, thank you! I promise I'm not replacing Nick, but we did record a few other videos that they'll post soon. I had an absolute blast and I'm so happy you enjoyed this!! And I'm definitely open to giving it another try.
Personnel for YES _Tormato:_ (1978) Jon Anderson - vocals, 10-string Alvarez guitar Steve Howe - Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar, Martin 000-45, Fender Broadcaster, Gibson ES-175, Gibson acoustic guitar, mandolin, Spanish guitar, vocals Chris Squire - harmonised Rickenbacker bass, Gibson Thunderbird bass, bass pedals, piano, vocals Rick Wakeman - Birotron, Hammond organ, Polymoog synthesizer, piano, harpsichord, RMI Electric Piano Alan White - drums, military snare drum, glockenspiel, crotales, cymbals, bell tree, drum synthesizer, gongs, vibraphone, percussion and vocals You're welcome.
Oh wait a minute! actually it isn't :D! Checkout the "Studio" tracks on the Live albums "Keys to Ascension" 1 & 2! Those tracks sound like something that _could have_ come after Tales of Topographic Oceans. HIGHLY underrated tracks! The 2 albums came out in 1996 & 97 and featured . . . Jon Anderson - vocals, guitars, harp Steve Howe - 6 and 12 string guitars, pedal steel guitar, 5-string bass on "Be the One", vocals Chris Squire - bass guitar, piccolo bass on "Be the One", vocals Rick Wakeman - keyboards Alan White - drums
I always found this song, circus of heaven, and don't kill the whale to be a bit embarrassing for my favorite band. On the other hand On the Silent Wings, Future times, and Release, Release are great..
The reason Yes ended after the tourmato was partly due to punk rock taking up all the air and spitting on arty bands like Yes, ELP, Genesis, Tull, you name it. Any band playing a guitar solo was out of fashion and ridiculed. Record companies attitudes followed the public sentiment, real or imagined. The day music was dumbed down. This is classic yes lineup and an under rated album. We did consider it more rocking that the early stuff. We thought they were bringing the energy of punk but tempered by musicianship!
This came out when prog bands suddenly where considered dinosaurs, so they were trying to find a simpler, fresher, less serious sound, right when new wave and punk groups where being acclaimed by large audiences. I think it was a mistake that Yes would get out of its rail to try to please people that wanted to follow that kind of styles, but still Tormato, drama, 90125, big generator are great albums
Hi Nic and Lex😊❤!!! “Tormato” is loaded with little gems 💎 “Arriving UFO”🛸 was released in the midst of a string of blockbuster sci-fi movies in the late 70s. ‘Close Encounters…’, ‘Star wars IV (1st movie), ‘ET’, ‘Moonraker(James Bond), “Star Trek: The Motion Picture”, etc. Be sure to give “Circus Of Heaven” a listen 🎧. Jon’s son Damien makes his record debut ❤. You’ve already heard ‘Madrigal’. Chris (RIP😢❤) wrote the beautiful “Onward”.
Not everyone likes this song. Some think it's bad. I like it, though I wouldn't rank it up there with their best. I like the uniqueness of it though, and the interesting sounds that they created.
@@NicknLex I have been a YES fan for close to 30 years and have seen them live in several different incarnations, I Jon playing with the Band Geeks was up there among the best, and was absolutely the most surprising. I, in no way thought he would sound as good as he ever has.
I gave up on the current line-up of official Yes, which makes me sad cause they've been my fave since 84', and Steve is still amazing, but Jon with the Band Geeks are awesome live. UFO is not one of my faves from this album, but that's a personal taste thing. Onward is awesome, and I really like Circus of Heaven a lot, though many people don't, or they say it sounds like a Jon solo thing.
Some don’t care for this album so much but I do. I look at it as a singles type release. Seems more accessible also. Today’s yes is not very good. Everything has an end . R.I.P. Chris and Alan.
Love his guitar playing but it's too bad Steve didn't have enough class to end Yes after Chris passed away, seeing as how it was Jon & Chris who co-founded the band. He certainly has enough talent and material to tour under his own name as Jon does.
Some say it's the songwriting or production that's the problem with Tormato, but more than that, it's Rick Wakeman's new array of keyboards (the Polymoog and above all the Birotron) that's at odds with Steve Howe's guitar sound. Personally, I rather like the tracks on this album, but the general sound of the keyboards is often questionable!
For God's sake, Lee, tell Lex that she needs to react to YES' cover of Paul Simon's *America* which is filled with Chris Squire ear candy. She will be so delighted to hear it (assuming she hasn't already heard it & isn't planning to react to it because she already heard it)
And now, after hearing your comments towards the end, I feel I need to leave yet another comment. Alexia, here's some info about Tormato. The album actually did very well, coming in at #10 in the U.S. and #8 in the U.K., but then it received some criticisms, for the reasons Lee said. Also, while it's not as "proggy" as their previous albums, it's still more proggy than 80s YES. You will very much enjoy every track on the album, with maybe 1 or 2 exceptions. I enjoy all of them, so here's hoping you and Nick eventually react to the rest. In my opinion, the next song off this album that you should react to, is Future Times. Great song.
Perhaps that's why I didn't care for this album too much because of the departure from their style. I've tried several times over the years to like it but aside from a couple of tracks there's just not much of a spark for me. Willing to give it another shot though! I have to say I LOVE 90125 and remember trying to make sure I watched all 15 or so iterations of "Leave It" on MTV.
@@LightmaneI'm what Nick calls a "prog-head" so the earlier stuff is my favorite by a mile! I still can appreciate some of the later material but their prog is the best of all eras.
Enjoyable song. The band was starting to fray a bit, to say the least, in this period. Jon was definitely influenced by Close Encounters of the Third Kind here 👽 Chris was the only band member who played on every Yes album. Lex, I can't wait until you hear "Parallels" from the Going For The One album. A total Chris Squire song!
@@NicknLex Your "Unease" with The Ancient, encapsulated my same "Grimace" with it. In 75', I owned Tales on a Double Album, and bought it on 8-Track. I played, and passionately sang to Ritual, Tears in Eyes. The Ancient never did that for me. Nick and Alexia, if you like Ritual, the Live, Yesshows (1980 Album), you will be enthralled.
After Going for the one’ they tried to come up another masterpiece, but they failed due to no direction, they were left by themselves in the studio and you can witness this in released videos of rehearsal sessions… So sad… It’s an album I do possess but rarely listen to its entirety.
Jon, Chris, Steve, Alan, and Rick are all on this album; and, it was the first Yes album produced entirely by the band, which explains why it sounds so much different than their previous albums. This album gets a lot of hate but I love every song on it, even the nearly universally reviled "Circus of Heaven," often regarded as the worst Prog song ever. It is not. It's the worst song on the album, IMO, but still a cute song. I think Arriving UFO is better than Circus... but, the other songs on the album are much better than this song, which I like very much, especially certain sections. Fun reaction! ❤😀✌
So dont knowbif have to be a Patreon member to request a Marathon but i would like to request an Aerosmith Marathon. A song from each of their 1st 4 albums. Off the debut album, "Makin it" Its the 1st track off the 1st album. The whole album is great so decided to go with the 1st track. "Dream On" is the biggest hit and one of the biggest rock songs ever. Second off the "Get Your Wings" album, "Lord of the Thighs" I feel shows how extremely talented all 5 members are. My favorite Aerosmith tune is off this album "Seasons of Wither". Off the 3rd album Is "Toys in the Attic" off the album named the same. Shows a harder side of the band. "Last Child" off the 4th album "Toys". As a honorable mentionn if time, would be Seasons of Wither or Kings and Queens. This band has been playing for 5 decades and all the same members. Steven Tyler-vocals, Joe Perry-lead quitar, Joey Kramer-Drums, Brad Whitford-quitar and Tom Hamilton on Bass. Later we can do different decades. Thanks, Kenny. P.S. i enjoy your channel very much. Please don't change a thing.😂
A couple of YES recommendations: "Homeworld" live version here: ua-cam.com/video/ETmRMPHtcqk/v-deo.html, and the live version of "In the Presence of" ua-cam.com/video/X_KDXoMB5wg/v-deo.html I don't think you've done those. Both excellent.
There's a lot to love about Tomato - some great pieces and excellent playing as you would expect. I love the album sleeve too, and the 1978 tour has gone down in history as one of their very best. I am so glad I saw them on that tour. However, there are some downsides to Tomato. Terrible production and Wakeman's awful keyboard choices which sound in places like cheap and nasty instruments you'd buy for £9.99 in the Aldi centre aisle. One or two of the songs are a bit cringy - Circus of Heaven for one. Madrigal could also be comfortably left out of the final track list. Shame the original master tapes are lost because it could really do with some re-work.
I love the albums Going for the One and Drama, but Tormato was a big disappointment to me at the time, it had a few nice songs, but I cannot appreciate this one.
Well aren’t you lucky to be seeing Mr Anderson. As he has turned his back on us here in the UK, that’s something I can not look forward too. Just to say I have been a fan since 1971 and feel somewhat betrayed. As for this album, I have always liked it, but it could have been so much better, too many hands in the pot in production.
Thank you again for having me as a guest on the channel, what a fun day!! ❤
I see a lot of comments about other tracks on the album, I'll have to give it another listen as it's been years. I tried listening a few times but wasn't too impressed, but willing to give it another shot!

The Band themselves say that during this period the collaborative relationships between Members had become more difficult and they weren't as cohesive as a group. Jon soon departed and Rick left again after this album only to rejoin years later. Initially, It took me awhile to appreciate this more disjointed full album but individually there are still some wonderfully strange, beautiful & complex songs on it
Tomato is actually their fifth most popular album according to sales figures. It was their biggest selling album up until that point.
Yes, it is Wakeman, he co wrote the track as well with Anderson and Howe..
Always liked Tormato. Different for sure, and this song kicks off the album. I believe "Don't Kill the Whale" was most popular, because of it's relevance at the time. My favorite is "Release, Release", because of the high energy jamming!.
I’ve always loved this album

Same lineup as Going For the One. Tormato has some amazing tracks. Chris totally drives this one.
Tormato has the classic line up Anderson, Squier Howe wakeman and whilte I saw this tour in 79 3rd row at MSG in NYC
Perhaps my favorite song on "Tormato", and the one song where Rick Wakeman's cheesy Birotron keyboard sounds fit in.
It's a real driver. Love it.
Finally!!! You guys got around to Tormato! My favorite along with Fragile and Going For The One. Amo sus reacciones chicos❤
Wow Lexi!
There are parts (including the "Classical" parts towards the end that Howe plays on the guitar) that I was trying just now, how to describe; "How do Yes (and other bands) make topics such as this or about Space, Space Travel and Space/Sci-Fi, 'sound' ___________?"
And that word you hit right on the head . . . "Galactic"! That is why I love this song and the subject matter.
Right on Lex! :D
Apparently: _"Arriving UFO" is based on a tune that Anderson had developed, inspired to write a science-fiction song having seen Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) twice.
Thanks Lee! Good to see Lex getting into more Yes (and heck yes its Prog!) :D

Can't believe I never thought about Close Encounters. I remember seeing it in the theater, I also had the amazing soundtrack on vinyl. For a long time, I would have flashbacks whenever I ate mashed potatoes!!

@@Pirates_of_the_Underground_II probably got in trouble for it at some point.... Haha
I forgot about much of the Tormato offerings. It's amazing to hear this song again after all these years. Here the background en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tormato Squire and Wakeman were still there.
I believe this song was influenced by Close Encounters of the third kind. The line up is Anderson,Wakeman, Howe,Squire and White
Really appreciate you wanting to send something 😊, here is the address:

Yesterday I was just thinking that it's been 45 yrs. since I saw Yes. I was in the 9th row in the stadium seats at the U of I in Champaign, IL. When the rotating stage stopped at the end of the concert, it looked like Jon Anderson was eye level with me and looking straight at me. Tickets were only $10.
I know god bless the 70’s. I saw so many groups for under $10. My 1975 ticket stub was priced at $5.50!
Thanks Lex I will get a few things out to you. One being the concert book for the 1976 tour. The bicentennial concert in Philadelphia.

Hahaha, Lee here. I'm glad I fooled everyone without trying!
Wakeman: "I would love to get hold of that album and have it remixed. There is some fabulous stuff on there. 'Arriving UFO' is a great track and could have been one of the great Yes stage features of all time, but it suffered on the record."
Music critic/journalist Chris Welch found Tormato to be a strange album full of surprises, "none more so than 'Arriving UFO'... It remains an imaginative and exciting piece, unlike anything Yes had done before."
Tormato was Yes' fastest selling album and earned US platinum certification in two months.
Lee that is so classic Yes! Every minute is very synthy too I like 70s synth
Glad you enjoyed it!
I almost had a heart attack when I saw the photo! Did Nick suddenly join the Marines? Whew!

What a great song! What a great guy! Totally enjoyed this!
@tarkus7 thank you so much (Lee here) very glad to hear this. We recorded a few more so stay tuned!
😂 That is TOO funny!!

My favourite track on the album, but Onward is beautiful.
IT IS RICK on keys and CHRIS is on it too.
Wow!!!! How cool is this??!!
@theprogcorner glad you enjoyed it. Hey, I just watched your video last week about the 25 albums that started Prog!!!! Nice work!
@@shiftingperception Thank you!!!!!!🙏
Coupla things: of COURSE it's Chris, and of COURSE it's Rick (you cannot ignore the polymoog, plus his vaudevillian licks).
This this song was recorded not long after the release of Close Encounters of the Third Kind,Hence the UFO vibe
etween the pair as a result. That’s why it’s so funny.”
The bit in which Wilder says “you know, morons” when talking about racists, Little was not warned about the punchline.
Gene just hooked his boots, hung down and said, ‘Are we black?’
“He saved my life, because he’s not only a genius actor, but he’s a good friend. And he never said, ‘I told you so.’ He was magnificent.”counters of the third kind, hence the space vibe

Checkout the "Studio" tracks on the Live albums "Keys to Ascension" 1 & 2!
Those tracks sound like something that _could have_ come after Tales of Topographic Oceans. HIGHLY underrated tracks! The 2 albums came out in 1996 & 97 and featured . . .
Jon Anderson - vocals, guitars, harp
Steve Howe - 6 and 12 string guitars, pedal steel guitar, 5-string bass on "Be the One", vocals
Chris Squire - bass guitar, piccolo bass on "Be the One", vocals
Rick Wakeman - keyboards
Alan White - drums
To my knowledge, Chris is on bass and vocal harmony, Wakeman on keys.

Not one of their best and suffers from Bad production but still enjoyable to a degree...... Onward off this album is absolutely gorgeous

P.S. The movie Close Encounters was around this time . Perhaps Mr. Wakeman represented the exchange that takes place. Squire is on it so is Rick.
Never even gave that a thought!
The line-up on this album is: Anderson, Squire, Howe, Wakeman and White. The big five.
“Tormato” is loaded with little gems 💎
“Arriving UFO”🛸 was released in the midst of a string of blockbuster sci-fi movies in the late 70s.
‘Close Encounters…’, ‘Star wars IV (1st movie), ‘ET’, ‘Moonraker(James Bond), “Star Trek: The Motion Picture”, etc.
Be sure to give “Circus Of Heaven” a listen 🎧. Jon’s son Damien makes his record debut ❤.
You’ve already heard ‘Madrigal’.
Chris (RIP😢❤) wrote the beautiful “Onward”.
I wondered how this piece would be perceived sonically. I'm gratified to find it doesn't come across as "old-timey."
I believe it was Tony on keyboards and Allen on drums
I watch everything off the phone and the pictures are small. Initially, I thought Nick cut his hair.
Not everyone likes this song. Some think it's bad. I like it, though I wouldn't rank it up there with their best. I like the uniqueness of it though, and the interesting sounds that they created.
Hope you enjoyed Jon Anderson and the Band Geeks, what an awesome show!!
It was life changing!!!! 🥰🥰🥰🥰
Onward is awesome, and I really like Circus of Heaven a lot, though many people don't, or they say it sounds like a Jon solo thing.
ua-cam.com/video/lfaySx0pWR0/v-deo.html
Good to know, we got tickets to see Jon Anderson in August!
Music is hard to compose and play. This Album is very underrated. All the main players are on this album.
You wouldn't need to read the credits to know Chris Squire is playing bass on this album.
For God's sake, Lee, tell Lex that she needs to react to YES' cover of Paul Simon's *America* which is filled with Chris Squire ear candy. She will be so delighted to hear it (assuming she hasn't already heard it & isn't planning to react to it because she already heard it)
Surprise coming soon!! 😜 Be on the lookout!! 🤩🤩
It's proggy...ask AC/DC to play it 😉
And now, after hearing your comments towards the end, I feel I need to leave yet another comment.
@@shiftingperception do you prefer their pop sound of the 80s over their prog sound of the 70s?

@@NicknLex Your "Unease" with The Ancient, encapsulated my same "Grimace" with it. In 75', I owned Tales on a Double Album, and bought it on 8-Track. I played, and passionately sang to Ritual, Tears in Eyes. The Ancient never did that for me. Nick and Alexia, if you like Ritual, the Live, Yesshows (1980 Album), you will be enthralled.
After Going for the one’ they tried to come up another masterpiece, but they failed due to no direction, they were left by themselves in the studio and you can witness this in released videos of rehearsal sessions…
So sad…
It’s an album I do possess but rarely listen to its entirety.

Does Circus of Heaven feature Jon Anderson's son?
Funner? Alexia? Really... You've been married to Nick too long! 🤣🤣
How does one pick a song they know nothing about? Good shirt though.
That's sad to hear - why does he no longer tour there?
