wow.... I was going to go to Green Island during a GBR tour ....but it looks so crowded. the Coral reef on Fitsroy Island looks pretty devastated and visibility is cloudy. I guess I got spoiled going to Fiji.
Hi, you can just hire it from the boat for both destinations. If you’ve booked a tour then the snorkelling gear is included. If you’re just taking the boat to go there (like Fitzroy Island) you can also hire the gear from the boat. I think it was free or we paid a very small fee.
Great Video Mate! Perfectly covered everything! I also have 2 kids (6 and 2 yrs) and was planning something feasible with kids, and from Sydney too! And it looks like all the places were kids friendly! Wonferful coverage I must say! but just a question, so besides Fitzroy and Green Island, arent there other islands/snorkeling places where you can snorkel and carry kids as well?
Hi Navaid, I’m sure there is but these are the only islands we went too. We were pleasantly surprised by how kid-friendly the boats (and these islands) were so can’t really speak for other ones! But definitely recommend what was covered in the video as it was so easy with our kids!
Hi Lyndon - they're both quite different. Fitzroy Island has a much more laidback feel. If I had to choose, I would recommend Fitzroy because I found it much more relaxing (especially with kids) and the snorkelling was MUCH better than Green Island. There's just not as many places to eat etc there so you need to prepare a bit more.
Thanks Nathan! We stayed at the Pullman Hotel. Great hotel for kids as it has a fantastic pool as well kids activities during the day like face painting etc - also a good bar for the adults ;)
Hi Anita, we didn’t hire a car this trip as mainly did tours out to the reef and wandered around Cairns. If you do want to go up to the Daintree, Port Douglas or other places, it would be worth it but I’ve heard it’s quite expensive at the moment. We stayed at the Pullman Cairns which was nice. Great pool for the kids!
Not in Brisbane Jan. You have to travel further north to at least Bundaberg which is about 360km from Brisbane. That's where the Great Barrier Reef starts (southern end).
Great vid. Thanks for sharing. Love Cairns!
Good information will help , I am going too explore in first week of April.

Hi! Just booked our flights to Cairns for late August. Did you guys hire a car? Recommend a place to stay? We have a 2-year-old. 🙂
