      Where Mr. Saget taught us the lessons of life with a chipper smile, we need a bit of Mr. Sickler to tell "It's not all fucking rainbows and unicorns" with the same type of laughter. 👍

      He’s the Oprah that we actually need. The Josh Wolf (not particularly the one with Josh’s kiddo which was a good one too) episode was pretty dang good. Brian shows him other people’s videos/stories. Bananas!

      Totally agree with both of you. The way he's an active listener and just not waiting for his turn to talk makes the biggest difference, especially when he asks questions that are both related to the point in the conversation and also you can tell if he'd interview them again, he wouldn't need to even ask the same questions. I feel like his empathy and attention to interpret their answers through their subtext and subtle details they convey is why he's been so successful podcasting.

  • @nnn248nnn
    @nnn248nnn Рік тому +1

    Wow, watching this episode with after deRosa's episode on Honeydew was very interesting for this adoption point of view. I wasn't adopted, yet, I struggled (struggle...) with addiction & abuse issues from my parent that I directly was forced to be involved in and grew up around. I truly wonder if I was in better circumstances a kid, if I would have developed this multi-generational alcoholic issue. Like Jodie, I too got great grades in school and no one was the wiser to my issues or bad home life. But as soon as I hit 21 in college, I kind of lost it and have been struggling with this "legal".... destructive lifeforce that seems out of my hands, so long as I have money. It's pathetic and I know I have the responsibility to "change the pattern" for my future family, but man is it hard. It's comforting to see other WOMEN going through it and making it to the other side, thank you Jodie. I am trying to be stronger.... one day at a time.

    Such a great guest for a landmark episode! She's always great in everything I've ever seen her involved in, but let's give Ryan props for his ability to let her speak fluidly and only intervening to drive a point or inquire in certain parts. Most podcast hosts fail to STFU and let the guest talk!

    Not many people are doing what you do... To openly address that we are all fucking human is, somehow, insane. This has to be the best podcast out there. I studied psychiatry, psychology, and philosophy... But Sickler, somehow, makes my education seem absolutely worthless. I mean that in the best way possible. To have an open dialogue with people unravels the most basic, intrinsic emotions without forcing some kind of reaction. I love this so much. Thank you for these discussions.

    Thank you Ryan for the best honeydew I've ever had in my life. I never thought in a million years that I would find therapeutic mental health support in a podcast that simply highlights the lows as experienced by a wonderful diverse group of guests. You're providing hope to those of us struggling with depression, physical disabilities, addiction, poverty and other hardships in our daily lives by reminding and showing us through these amazing interviews that other people are going through the same thing or worse and if they can eventually achieve their goals to go on to live happy successful lives then so can I. I'm a huge fan of your work and you never disappoint, Lefty's Son was an awesome special. Please keep up the great work and we would love to have a future tour date here in the Hampton Roads 757 area of Virginia. Thanks again Ryan and wish you the best in life.
