My father had a friend named Pete Schultz. When I was practically still a baby, my parents and I would go to Pete’s house, and while the adults would do adult things (play poker, billiards, listen to the latest album by Neil Young or The Rolling Stones or Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show or Loggins & Messina (yes, this was back in the early to mid 70’s), I would end up hanging out with Pete’s two daughters (I wish I could remember their names, dog gone it). Anyway, the older one had a bunch of 45’s, one of which was At The Hop, and in her room, not on the radio, was where I first heard it. Loved it then, love it still.
I was only 2 and a half when this was the top song in the USA. I never heard this record until around 1973, when I turned 18. I have loved this record ever since then. Thanks for posting it.
Danny & the Juniors started the year of 1958 at #1 on the Billboard Chart back on the week of January 6, 1958, and would remain there for 7 straight consecutive weeks! I've been told that the original song was written as "Do the Bop" and was first released in 1957... Sure would be interesting to hear that version!👌... This by far would become the group's biggest hit single as it was their only Top 10 hit sadly (Although "Rock & roll is here to stay" also deserved to become a Top 10 smash in my humble opinion!).. Very sorry to hear that singer Danny Rapp committed suicide back in 1983 at the age of 41...He was so very talented.. Some may also remember the group appearing in the movie "Let's rock" also back in 1958📼... thanks so much for uploading this classic gem, which I've always enjoyed, and appreciate you sharing! It always gets the foot to tappin'! Take Care! Ms. Elizabeth🎵📻🎵

I used to dance "The Hop" to this song. There was a dance made just for it. Danced it in Junior High School at Wood High School in Indianapolis, IN.
This was the Number 1 song on the day I was born.
December 17?
I absolutely *adore* these doo-whop songs, this whole era of music is my favorite!
Me too. I was born in the 70's but love the music of the 50's and 60's.
This isn't doo wop, it's rock and roll.
My favorite song of all time!
