Written after his first wife, Beatrice, died tragically in a car accident (black-ice induced), and he escaped to Egypt to find solace and spirituality: writing this intensely lyrical piece, that he still begins every show with. (Hence the dissonant piano chords at first--signaling the sudden tragedy, then the airport intercom intro, and, of course, the amazing song itself--with its almost-Egyptian beat and minor-chord beauty. Kip sings like never before, with a newfound rawness and power! UPDATE: That is, in fact, Beatrice, the wife that passed away, in the Winger "Spell" video, in the beach shots, but I do not believe in the close-ups. He wrote the song about her, obviously. She also sang back-up on Kip''s first album and did graphics for the album. Poor Kip!
+Lance E Where are you getting your info? Everything I've read said that it happened when she was driving into work in November '96 in New Mexico, where both she and Kip resided--single-car crash, caused by black-ice. I just posted a link where Kip writes about this. www.ebay.com/gds/WINGSTAR-IV-/10000000002200067/g.html
liselle sloan Sorry, I had inaccurate info. I know she worked at WSHE, the Miami rock station and when they made the on-air announcement, I thought she was still working there. My mistake.
Do you, by chance, know if that's her in his beautiful "Spell I'm Under" video. It looks like her in the beach shots, but not in the close-up shots. When did she work in Miami? I know Kip met her in Berlin, where she was from, and she followed him to this country. From what I understood, she lived him in New York, they vacationed in Florida, and then moved back to his home in New Mexico.
@@chrislewis5106 No one who understands and feels the depth of his music...ever will get over him cause there is simply no reason to. I feel lucky and privileged to having been introduced to Winger's music back in 1988 and his music just keeps on getting better and better...just like good quality wine getting better and better while aging...
@@rockersn_rollers8460 You're an idiot. WTF is wrong with you? Don't tell me, I already know...mental midget and musically stunted. I'd tell you to go phuck yourself, but you've probably heard that 39 times today already...
@@sk3ffingtonai You’re right, I admit. No big deal. I interpreted your comment the wrong way. I love this song. I meant to say that there should be more likes because it’s such a good song. I’m a huge fan. You’d be surprised. I know what good music is thank you very much.
