    It would be amazing to see more videos covering rural regions of Canada and about Canada's rural ways of life in general.

      Definitely something I’d be interesting in doing, items hard however to find reliable information on rural areas, I’d love someday to be foot on the ground and truly document what is happening !

      @@GeoNerd. I traversed Canada twice times by hitchhiking, I can tell you a few stories. There are subcultures to be aware of, some of which are nothing like the expectations of Canadians even by Canadians who learned about this country. Rural peoples of Canada are a whole other breed of thinkers, self-aware and smart, frugal, autonomous, and naturally more conservative but maybe not in a republican kind of way. Liberals depend on city comforts and their social mirrors here. Then you got the rich hippie kids, hybridized liberals, spiritual materialists if you will, yet some other hippies dislike the first group and even try not to look like them so as not to confuse others. I came across urbanites hiding in the forests, I couldn't figure out why they were there until I realized all they did was sell their expensive house in the city and sink the money where real estate is much cheaper to feel wealthier than the vast majority around them for all the same comforts of the city. Sometimes they try to garden but to no avail, their attempts are ridiculous at best. The super poor do odd things for a living, it's so outlandish that it's impossible to pin them down, from marijuana in the basement of a rural house that looks like it’s about to collapse, to gourmet mushrooms in makeshift grow chambers to whatever other cash crops, such as garlic, or eco-tourism ideas that should fail but don’t. They don't always succeed in their ventures but always seem to be the happiest, the poorer the happier. Lot of philosophical thinking going on in the rural where common folk gather to scrutinize life itself. They meditate together with their kids, they skinny dip with family and friends, they go kayaking and sometimes drown, some travel aimlessly and unnecessarily, tired and broke yet strangely happy.

    RE Population....It should be noted that Canada's early native peoples settled more widely across the country as did Europeans who required agriculture. Though scarcely populated native peoples virtually settled every corner of the country from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island and up to the Arctic. These early people obviously found it quite livable albeit challenging.

      This is a ridiculous argument to make considering none of these civilizations had much population and most native Americans on the continent settled in warmer areas

    I feel like this video has a false sense of reality/expectations. Historically, these regions were NEVER highly populated in the same way when you look at Mexico the natives were concentrated in the southern 1/3 of the nation because of the harsh desert heat of the north. Modern a/c and heat is the only reason cities in extreme climates have grown.

      You do bring an interesting point! It’s true, Canada has never had a “high” population density!

      @CajunGators Рік тому

      @@GeoNerd. Not Canada as a whole, I meant native areas. It’s just climate related. I was lucky to have spent a summer in northern BC and visited Alaska and Yukon and none of those areas ever had big populations. In fact, what was funny for us was that the international border and the checkpoints aren’t near each other. Our Canadian tour guide told us that was because of the wind/snow that hits the actual border so it was better to move the checkpoint. This is near Fraser, BC lol. It’s harsh up there. I was cold in august lol

      Very interesting! I knew the North has smaller population centres! But an interesting anecdote with the border and checkpoint, do you remember what the average temps were over there?

      @@GeoNerd. oooo it’s been a few years but I was there late august. High temps were around 21C and lows were 5C. As long As the sun was out I was fine lol. But my mama is anemic so the cold was hard for her as much as she loved seeing the snowy mountains. As it is right now at 7am, it’s 27C in TX lol. We took a cruise that landed in Skagway, Alaska. From there we chose to take the train that goes to Whitehorse. Beautiful area!!

    immigration propaganda

    • @GeoNerd.
      @GeoNerd.  Рік тому

      Could you explain more your idea? Immigration has its pro’s and con’s but this video is more about how Canada has a small population density due to it’s size and some factors on why that is and why there is only a handful of “big” cities and one of those reasons is immigration and the current policies regarding it!

    • @spencersullivan461
      @spencersullivan461 Рік тому +1

      @@GeoNerd.you claim canada has an immigration policy focused on skilled workers. Almost half of all immigrants are simply family members of others living here. And another chunk are refugees. Immigration lowers the cost of labour. Raises cost of housing. And costs taxpayers billions every year.

    • @GeoNerd.
      @GeoNerd.  Рік тому

      Again, I am referring the policy not giving any opinion on immigration, which has it’s pros and con’s , but Canada does has a skilled worker focused policy, over half of recent immigrants are economic immigrants and 34.5% of those are from the skilled workers program and another ~30% are chosen by the province nominee program - I don’t want to comment on the pro’s and con’s of immigration as it can be pretty subjective depending on each others values, however I would not call this “propaganda “ as the video talks about population density not the economic factors of immigration which are complex . Finally, 17% of immigrants in Canada are refugees and only 27% are family classed immigrants, 52% are classed as economic immigrants
