    This is just normal behavior for an adult dog and a juvenile dog. Fiona is clearly annoyed and so she shows her teeth and growls, potentially leading up to a snap to get the point across. It’s why Fiona refuses to play a little after Kaya calmed down. She doesn’t want to encourage the behavior. Kaya has to learn boundaries but this is how those boundaries are taught: you get to the line and get told off. It’s best she learn these lessons from other dogs now so she doesn’t act worse and while the other dogs are still tolerant of her because she’s young.

    • @bringurownvibe
      @bringurownvibe 10 місяців тому +7

      Lmao "this is how you learn boundaries" = "that's how your dog gets bit when it annoys the wrong dog"

    • @panonymousbloom5405
      @panonymousbloom5405 10 місяців тому +21

      @@bringurownvibe the point is exactly to avoid that thus her having to learn boundaries from a nonaggressive dog?
      If you're talking about Fiona snapping - animals biting other animals is not really that harmful. Animals bite each other for many reasons, not all of them mean harm. Not too familiar with dog behavior but take cats for example. Cats will bite each other to play, or even groom each other, and it will not cause the other cat to react that much, probably because of all the padding. But if a cat even bites you in the same way, well, it hurts like a bitch and may even lead to bleeding. Fiona snapping and getting even a bit of skin in will probably hurt Kaya but won't harm her and will be a clear signal for her to back tf off. It's the animal way of communication, and yes, establishing boundaries so unless they get too aggressive with each other, there's really no reason to interfere.

      @@panonymousbloom5405 They're lucky Fiona is a very toleerant dog that does not over correct. HOWEVER, this should NOT be the dogs job tl raise a pup. They should not create environments where a dog feels they have to correct behavior because not all dogs are good teachers. The wrong dog can over correct that behavior and potentially scate Kaya. The dog should always look at the human to seperate when boundaries are being crossed because the owner is the pack leader. This is how fights start especially between 2 same sex dogs.

      @@turtles6283yes but as a dog behaviorist, excessive yawning when a dog is not tired and repeatedly lip licking when they have not eaten anything is almost always a sign that a dog is uncomfortable. Fiona is 100% showing that she does not want to play. Because Fiona will not correct Kaya, Kaya needs to get removed and redirected when she’s not reading those signs from Fiona. It’s a little sad to see that she’s not being advocated for in this situation. I’m sure Hassan will address this behavior with the guidance of his trainer, but letting dogs carry on acting like this is how you create a bully that is self-serving and doesn’t read signals from others.

    My Australian Sheppard does this too, with dogs, cats, kids...🤣 I've always thought the body checking Hasan is talking about, is a herding behavior. My dog does it to get them to do what he wants, I assume the same way they would herd sheep or cows. We got a very large "jolly ball" that he loves to herd around the yard. It might help get some of that energy out if you have a dog with similar behavior's. I'm not an expert though!

But I do know dogs are sexuallty dymorphic in some ways at least) Let's hope she grows up with a more of a newfoundland disposition lol. For Fionas sake lol.

    Helping out with dog sitting right now. Glad Papi doesn’t piss from joy when he sees me now. He’s currently in that phase where he wants me to hold him up as he sits like the sphinx. He’s definitely spoiled to an extent. A loved one will get up and cook for him. That being said, Kaya needs outside time. Not camera time. She needs to be taken camping, skiing, hiking, swimming, fishing, etc. A sedentary lifestyle is criminal for most breeds. Papi and I bird watched for a minute and he was in the moment, so if you’re a bit grounded and “antisocial” like myself you can birdwatch with Kaya. People need to accept the fact that animals are aware. Sometimes I feel so bad for pets.

      Fiona will correct her herself. It’s only if Kaya becomes aggressive or just completely ignores Fiona’s communications where there would be a real problem. But Kaya isn’t be aggressive or dominant or bad, really, she’s just a young, energetic dog trying to figure out how to get another dog to play with her. She’s reacting to Fiona’s cues by licking her mouth and showing her belly, signs that Kaya isn’t meaning to be aggressive but does want her way. Fiona is teaching her how to play by refusing to if Kaya is too overbearing and then playing once she’s calm. If Fiona was afraid or actually disliked Kaya, you wouldn’t see them playing at all. Fiona would just snap at her whenever Kaya tried to interact.

Your dog needs to learn how to behave with other dogs, it can't be human lead every instance always, and while the dog is a puppy other dogs will be understanding of that fact and teach her.
