This is such a hypnotic piece of music. It feels like a dream world. All the pain and chaos of this world is worth enduring just to experience this piece of music. To know that a Human being graced this earth with these immortal stanzas is breathtaking. I will suffer and die, but at least in one part of my life I saw this beauty. It’s all worthwhile.
Marvelous interpretation!! softy and tenderly... God be Praise and his son Jesus Christ... Congratulations to you EuroArts for post this video.. Broughed me peace.. Thanks Mozart writed this heavens music!
Amazing John, I just added this to my list of music to be played at my funeral and an hour later read your post. May your wife rest in peace. Also reading a fascinating biography of Mozart by Jan Safford.
Mozart composed this marvelous deeply moving motet in 1791, the last year of his life cut too short. He composed it for a friend, a musician at a small church, for the Festival of Corpus Christy. Marked sotto voce, which gives it a feeling of inward looking deep religiosity, this short piece creates a world of infinite beauty. It is composed to the Latin verse of Ave Verum Corpus, here followed by its English translation: Ave verum corpus, Hail true body, natum de Maria Virgine, born of the Virgin Mary, vere passum, immolatum having truly suffered, in cruce pro homine sacrificed on the cross for mankind, cuius latus perforatum from whose pierced side, fluxit aqua et sanguine flowed water and blood, esto nobis praegustatum be for us a foretaste, in mortis examine. to experience death. The original Latin verse included three further lines, omitted form Mozart's motet.
So engelhaft das Ganze auch klingt, so präferiere ich jedoch das Stück in der Version mit gemischtem Chor: weit mehr Volumen, Variation, Tiefe und Würde.
It's beautifully sung/played but why are they all in the sanctuary? where is the altar? Not really comfortable with turning a Catholic Cathedral into a concert hall.
Well, this IS a religious piece of music, after all, and a church is the appropriate place for it to be performed. I have more of a problem with the applause at the end of such a beautiful piece of music. As you say, the church has become a concert hall.
four of the loveliest minutes of music anyone has ever composed
