I remember a time in the distant past when white collar crimes were punished with only jail sentences. I remembered a particular case where two men were jailed only two years for embezzling rm 2 million. Now the country's laws have been changed to include whipping with the jailed sentences to act as an effective deterrent for all would be white collar criminals with exemption only given to those who are above a certain age ( 55 or 60 years of age, I am not sure). So it is very important for the layman and the man in the street to really be very careful when handling money belonging to others and to know the law and its severe punishment for those who are found guilty of committing white collar crimes linked to financial matters. Whipping with the rotan is a very severe and traumatic experience for the recipient which I would not wish on anybody including the guilty.

      😢We need a better Msia.
We need a judiciary that do not fail us.
His excessive sentence makes him a sacrificial lamb; a stern deterrence to the up & coming brave youths who want to correct the wrongs.
Those matured enough to commit corruption, enjoy the loot but 'not fit enough for lashings' (lol)! Many live a lavish lifestyle & went on overseas family trips while ironically, SS didn't spend the money for his personal use. SS was fined 10x, which convicted politician (besides those who escaped scot-free) was ever fined likewise?! If 10x for 1MDB case, alas, our nation's woeful debts wld be eased.
Will ever Msia be great again? Right now, the dream seems farfetched.
Injustice for SS makes our nation a laughing stock.
( He may be guilty BUT the stark difference btw his harsh sentence & the giant crooks, speak volumes.)

While the charges on SD was deemed excessive, the question lies back to whether did he committed CBT and money laundering? Stealing RM1 or RM1Million is still a crime. If he had committed a crime and considering his young age especially if he is a politician and a party leader, he deserved to be punished. The question on the fine and jail sentences were too excessive, its then up to him to appeal. But as far as his political career is concerned, Malaysia politics can be very unpredictable.

Malaysians need true patriotic leaders who truly care for the citizens and be a model for the younger generations. In school, years and years ago before early 2000s, students have essays to write what are the qualities of a good student, teacher, doctor, etc. This is thinking skills. Now, what are the qualities of a good MP, a minister, a leader? The head leads, the rest follows. Malaysians needn't left their imagination run wild to know where our beloved country is heading with the younger generations lacking a good model to follow.
Becoming a Malaysian officially: Five things you need to know about the ‘good character’ test (Malay Mail) What good character? We have a saying of elders - they have eaten more salt than the younger generations have eaten rice. This saying does not hold water any more. Hope the younger generations rise up to the occasion and become wiser and more responsible leaders than the previous and the previous previous generations. HIDUP MALAYSIA.

When syed saddique was charged in court I had decided to wait for the details of the case from BOTH SIDES. Now that the facts & explanations offered are out we are in a better position to see if what he did was wrong in law.
According to a lawyer who explained in great detail each of the charges & the relevant law & the facts as presented-including syed saddique's explanation- there was no doubt that the laws were violated. It doesn't matter if his purpose was to help the flood victims but laws were broken.
The lawyer also examined if the sentencing was excessive. In fact based on the laws that were broken , each of the charges levied, syed was given the MINIMAL SENTENCE - including the caning & fine. The court judge was very kind & lenient.
Please get your own lawyer friend to do a similar analysis to get the proper perspective.

Cik Mariam,I always fully agree to every of your statements. I have been your fan for many years. I do agreed about Syed Saddiq is a young and talented yet good looking politician but I don’t agree with you on syed saddiq case. I should say that he deserves for such punishment because he doesn’t know how to respect or work together with the present government as he promised. You have to know that Anwar became PM who got the blessing from our King instead of Muhyiddin. Our King preferred a unity government rather then having unstable government right after shareton move lead by muhyiddin. Who can be sure about Syed saddiq statement was true enough for what he said? Remember that Syed saddiq master is Muhyiddin and God father is Tun M. This is reality. Perhaps, this was Tun M and Muhyiddin plan from early days. Putting him as their watchdog as their informer. Ph has allocated for him a few seats for his party muda in the last election and he won his only seat . What happened after he became MP? Ph actually knew that he was not trying to work together with ph sincerely but for Muhyiddin and Tun M. This is the reason why ph ignore everything about his request or not invited for important meetings. Why ph did that to him? There must be something not right. They are trying to proof his sincerity in working towards with the madani government. But he failed and quit from supporting the government with such reasons given and end up government lost the majority 2/3 support in the parliament. You treated someone like your family member but he end up trying to kill you. Will you pardon him just because he is young, talented and good looking? Jail sentence and whipping punishment for him is just a small lesson to remind him always for not being a betrayer to the government and country.
