Man that is super simple! I had my 18 aligned and it never fails they don’t leave the steering wheel straight and bothers me a ton! I was always worried in doing that would throw my alignment off even more LOL. Thanks for the video!
Not bad information at all! As a retired flying crew chief on the Pave Low-I totally approve of the use of any hammer. LOL. Seriously-I keep a whole drawer of different hammers and blocks just for what you did there. These videos are extremely helpful! Keep up the good work! TOML!
Awesome video. Thank you for taking the time to make this.. By chance do you no the actual size of the jam nut? Was going to buy a crows foot so I can torque the nuts. Thank you
I was told to spot weld the two nuts on it. Supposedly, they will vibrate loose over time. Especially if the road you're traveling on isn't too good. I took my 3500 to the muffler shop and let them do it. 20 bucks got it done. I'm not sure if that's what they charge because he didn't give me a price, I just threw him a 20 and kept it moving. Love the videos and the detail you give. Keep them coming.
Thank you for making this! Will be installing carli track bar on my 12 ram 2500 and your track bar install video along with this gave me a great idea on what to expect. Thanks bro!
Hey, great video, but as I stated in the video for the track bar, make sure you put blue loctite on the jam nuts so they don't back out. those nuts are suppose to be torqued at a high lb-ft and if not they back off and if that happens there is a possibility that the drag link will separate into two pieces and you could be in trouble if driving. (TSB out on it).
Purchase a Synergy Drag Link after getting the recall done to replace (to clear the recall in the system). The weld on the stock nuts is a bandaid, and until the actual replacement like the drag link on the new 2019’s design, Synergy will be the fix.
I liked the video it was clear and concise, but I hit the 'Like' and 'Subscribe' because of the field jacket liner. I saw that and smiled I just wish I knew what happened to mine, not that it would fit anymore considering it's been 25 years since I PCS'ed to USS Backyard.
Hey thanks for the video, I had the dealer do an alignment and wheel was still crooked. What is that bearing you have on the bottom of your gear box? It’s blue with a grease able bearing, also does it help with steering wheel play? If not what mod is it called? Thank you much appreciated
The bearing is part of the steering gear box stabilizer, that helps with the steering wheel play. It is different from a steering stabilizer, a mod that will also decrease steering wheel play.
Roads are naturally built to pull water off to deter against hydroplaning. Therefor if you are driving on a two lane road, the left lane leans left and the right lane leans right. Hopefully that makes sense brother.
I purchased my 2018 Ram 2500 6.7L 4x4 in Dallas and drove it home to Minnesota. I received the recall about a week later and 2500 milea later so Minnesota dealership welded the a nut on drag link or both. My problem is the day I bought my truck my steering was tight like a new truck is supposed to be almost zero play but since the drag link was fixed my welded it. Now I have about 2" of play on both sides right or left off center play so much that my wife told me the steering feels loose I've contact the dealership and the tech said after looking it over everything looks fine. Has anyone else had that problem too??
Holy cow! My 2015 drag-link lock nuts were also tac-welded! We bought it used and couldn’t, for the life of us, figure out who or why they were welded like that. I guess to minimize liability, that makes sense.
I literally just got the recall done today on my 2018 power wagon(I didn’t realize they were going to weld it even after it passed they’re test)and my steering wheel is off by a few degrees and the alignment shop has no idea how to adjust it. Wtf do I do ?
Andres Caloca Break the welds, adjust steering wheel, then get them welded again. It will be retarded like that for awhile until ram fixes itself. That’s why I am not taking my truck in for awhile to get the recall done.
Motor head-So a friend of mine who’s a professional welder took a look at the welds the dealership did and said”that his 1 year apprentice could do a better job”. We broker the welds and took it back to the alignment shop. Once the alignment is properly done we’re gonna loctite it good rather than welding it. Hopefully that’s enough till I get a replacement drag link
MOTOR HEAD I’m looking into getting either the synergy or off road dodge steering upgrade but don’t know if it’ll fit in my 18 power wagon.Either way, your videos helped out a lot. Keep it up bro
if i adjust this having a stock type setup will i need another alignment? i just did the entire front end and had a alignment. wondering if i do this will it need yet another 75$front end alignment? my steering wheel is off center towards the left. also do i need to put blue lock tite on the adjuster nuts?
@@MotorHead18 thank you so damn much i was literally just now adjusting it. going to get lock tite as i text this. thanks for letting me know about the alignment not being needed again.
@@MotorHead18 lol also i subd for the massive help as well 😉😁😁😁 have to checkout other videos you have after i get this truck finished... if i ever get it finished.
Just found your channel. Great common sense content. Answered a lot questions for me as I'm melting my CC ordering parts. Sub'd and liked man. Time to delete and tune.
That is done as part of a dodge recall, you can cut the welds or dodge will do a recall replacement on it but they won’t pay for the alignment. Even if your out of warranty I believe they will cover it.
Just to be clear, the issue isn't that the nuts will loosen, it's that they'll essentially be totally stripped and pulled apart. Locktite won't have any impact on the recall issue. Locktite might keep the nuts from loosening on the threads, but it won't prevent the threads from failing. Failing threads is the recall.
Man that is super simple! I had my 18 aligned and it never fails they don’t leave the steering wheel straight and bothers me a ton! I was always worried in doing that would throw my alignment off even more LOL. Thanks for the video!
It's super easy to do! Knock it out!!!
Wow, so simple!! Thank you, I'm having that issue with my 18 2500. I'll be doing this very soon to fix my issue.

That was a recall years ago. On 2013-2018 you should do this. 2019+ won’t loosen up if you tighten it to specs
Thank you for making this! Will be installing carli track bar on my 12 ram 2500 and your track bar install video along with this gave me a great idea on what to expect. Thanks bro!

Excellent explanation and video quality!
Thanks Marion!
Did your truck pull to the right before this? And if so did this upgrade and adjustments fix that problem?
It sure did pull before this and the part helped. A steering stabilizer helped as well.
You don’t need to have the ignition on? Since the steering wheel is blocked when is off
This may sound dumb, but do you lift the front end off of the ground or leave on the ground?
No need to jack it up
I replaced the whole drag link on my 12’ ram 3500. Is that what you did pretty much the same. My set up looks different though.
No I had stock drag link.
Purchase a Synergy Drag Link after getting the recall done to replace (to clear the recall in the system). The weld on the stock nuts is a bandaid, and until the actual replacement like the drag link on the new 2019’s design, Synergy will be the fix.
I will look into it!
Sorry for the noob question. But did you lift the truck with jack to do this?
Nope
Did you have death wobble before any if this and is so what fixed it? I just got the track bar and after watching videos may need a drag link?
No I never had it prior. From what I hear the track bar is mostly the culprit. That’s assuming that every suspension part is in decent shape
I liked the video it was clear and concise, but I hit the 'Like' and 'Subscribe' because of the field jacket liner. I saw that and smiled I just wish I knew what happened to mine, not that it would fit anymore considering it's been 25 years since I PCS'ed to USS Backyard.

10-4 I’ll order one for my 16, can’t believe I haven’t heard of it until now, thanks brother
@@dieselman8845 I would really recommend the steering stabilizer..really woke up the steering rigidity.
The steering wheel on my 01 goes to the left so I’m assuming I would turn the link the opposite way of what you did right?
Who makes the adjustment parts you have on there? They look way stronger and cleaner than the stock parts.
Steering gear box stabilizer from www.dodgeramsteeringstabilizer.com
Leverage is your best friend. Short handle tools and no nut space is your worst enemy
Nice field jacket liner 💪
You know it!
Who wears those as outer garments??!! lol
What do you mean by crown on the road? Thanks!
Roads are naturally built to pull water off to deter against hydroplaning. Therefor if you are driving on a two lane road, the left lane leans left and the right lane leans right. Hopefully that makes sense brother.
when your steering wheel is at dead center, is your pitman arm pointing perfectly straight to the back?
I don't think so if I remember correctly. I know the pitman arm needs to remain in place (towards certain direction) with steering wheel centered.
I purchased my 2018 Ram 2500 6.7L 4x4 in Dallas and drove it home to Minnesota. The king steering damper along with the steering gear box stabilizer really helped. Tight, firm!
Gents, make sure we are adding red/blue-loctite to the nuts when tightening them down!
Good info. I had my stock truck recalled and the dealer tac welded those two nuts. They said chance of them coming loose and causing accident
Absolutely.

Those nuts are on recall to be “welded” because they could come lose. 🤷🏻♂️
I’d throw some red locktite on them just to be safe.
Kirk Walters yea mine are welded. I gotta cut em loose to adjust my steering wheel. After dodge aligned it.

What's the torque spec on those jam nuts
Don't remember at the top of my head. Tight as hell, though.
Would you expect a guy that calls a locking vice grip "one of those things" in two of his videos to know what the torque spec is?
Had the recall done ✅ those bolts are now welded . At least it’s centered . Oh well 😳
We win some and lose some!
Eventually I’ll probably just get a Synergy drag link if I get any issues and be done ✅ with their screw up! Welding is not a fix!
