“Like a mushroom. He is fed shit and kept in the dark.” @7:20
Great line lol
The Departed. Mark Wahlberg bodied it.
This is an excellent first issue with a unique take on X-Men mythology. Larry Trask is an important, but rarely used character dating back to the Neal Adams days of the original X-Men and it will be interesting to see where his vision goes. This new generation of Sentinels is novel in that they are human beings with machine parts, whereas previous generations of Sentinels were 100% machine. These Sentinels strike me more as soldiers than cops and I don't really know them well enough yet as characters to know whether they are likeable or not. The idea that they go after bad mutants is solid, and the classic superhero motivation. If the Sentinels are primarily motivated by the desire to do good and are altruistic, I imagine that I will like them as characters as I get to know them. Of course we know that good and bad are subjective terms and that most everyone falls into a grey area, but I think that most would agree that Omega Red and Sebastian Shaw are truly basically villains and acceptable targets for the Sentinels. After capturing Omega Red, they take him to Greymalkin where the Blob and others are also imprisoned. I don't know who captured the Blob, but I don't imagine that it was the Sentinels. I also would consider the Blob more a hero than a villain these days, especially after his stint as bartender of the Green Lagoon. This makes Greymalkin more interesting and brings up the question of who really needs to be incarcerated. Warden Ellis of Greymalkin ties this book into other X-titles. She and Larry Trask clearly have different philosophies and it will be interesting to see how that plays out in the future. I really appreciate the originality and unique take of this series and am looking forward to the next issue!
This feels like a " both sides" comic.
I never likened Sentinels to cops because the robot versions were more killsquads than what cops would be thought of, and these human sentinels are treated more like Black Ops soldiers than cops.
Either way, nothing is a blanket statement since people loved them The Shield, Law & Order, etc.
I was hoping for 'SOMEONE' to make those words come OUT?!...
I got to be honest, I did not expect to hear any more about this issue, but thank you so much!
Another example is the two lead characters in Pineapple Express. They're both protagonists, but the only reason you laugh and root for them is because it's a comedy and they're less abhorrent compared to the villains. Otherwise you'd be disgusted at them selling drugs to kids.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed that film.
Can you seek it?! At this moment our boy is 0.1% away from the 100k! HIT THAT SUBSCRIBE TO GET BLERD TO THE PROMISED LAND!
This book is giving me serious Strikeforce Mortuari vibes.
Same. Now I need some Bengue!
Ernie, thank you for another wonderful video!
Do you intend to explore the first issue of Mystique? I would love to know your assessment!
Congrats on 100k subscribers 👏🏿 🙌🏿
Thanks for covering this issue
Hell Police Academy(s)Movie and Reno911 and Cops where the Cop type entertainment I ever enjoyed.
I remember how weird the senteniels from operation: zero tolerance were.
the concept of a team of sentinels created out of humans with trauma from random marvel events sounds like a great idea...
Did any of yall read the Sentinel Squad books from 2006?
Great run.
The one with Rhodey from Iron Man in it ?
Cops is definitely a show 😂😂
Cops the TV show definitely is text book proof ACAB
Let me say it now CONGRATULATIONS BRO ON 100K 🎉
I thought this was a cool book. I didn't catch everything, I know that, but I'm intrigued.
Sentinels looks like an interesting concept all things considered.
Yes Blerd, All Sentinels are bastards. All of them.
Especially Bastion and Nimrod
"X-men are cops" .. this reminds me of something I've not thought of in some time. I seem to remember that originally X-Men had two purposes: to train how to control their powers but also fight against evil mutants that would use their powers to prey on humans... If my memory is correct, then yeah cops.
And this , basically, is my counterargument against those hating on Shadowkat during Fall of Krakoa who said she can't be a hero now since she's committed murder. (they totally ignore Wolverine's rap sheet) My argument is that Kate was not a murderer, she was a soldier, they were at war and she targeted only soldiers of Orchis.
Good recap.
So...this is H.A.R.D. Corps for the X-Men basically?
I agree that most (nearly all) superheroes/teams are cops, but I don’t see how that applies to the X-Men nearly as neatly as it does a group like the Avengers, for example. Especially since the X-Men exist because mutants are an oppressed group that’s formally opposed by the federal gov. In-universe, groups like the X-Men are more likely to be understood as terrorists than anything else imo.
Is UA-cam censoring guns now? What? Really?!
Has been a thing that caused demonetization for a couple years or more now.
@@bajansamurai I don't know how I didn't notice that but that just seems weird. What the heck.
Yep, they are. One comics channel referred to an old Defenders enemy as “Elf with a _weapon_ “ 🙄🤦♂️
@@bajansamurai I mean UA-cam _has_ the best of intentions with this… unfortunately the road to Perdition is paved with the best of intentions. Let’s get back to good old fashioned human moderators and enforcement of the TOS
@@sawtooth808 With you on that part way. The problem is time, volume and subjectivity of enforcement leads to uneven treatment. It does go too far for me though.
Just based on my rudimentary medical knowledge, it seems like that next Sentinel that Larry Trask is building is not taking to the cybernetics well.
It definitely looks like that Sentinel is rejecting the cybernetics
Correction. Walter white was a good man. He fell prey to the greed and power that came creating his creation. Going against anyone that tried to take his baby away from him.
Is Sentinel Prime in this?
The Shield is in my Top 5 Dead or Alive Best Shows of All Time. The Forrest Whitaker season (3..?) was my favorite. Not sure I like the idea of this book, but one thing I know for sure; the art is not good. It's something I expect to see in a bad girls (Lady Death, etc.) or Evil Ernie comic from the 90s. Hard pass.
Sentinels is starting off as one of the more interesting X-Men storytelling series.
That, and the new X Factor series look amazing
@@sawtooth808 yes
Like the the trask aspect, but this art is too fugly to pull list
I was waiting for this video to drop. Cuz they don't really hate mutants but they know they gotta carry out the job. What also got me was Larry saying their needs to be an enemy so that the machine might not rise
It's funny people don't want "copaganda" but want The Avengers and Justice League, which are just teams of super cops.
Nah. Not at all.
I wanna argue that the JLA are more firefighters than cops, but I digress.
Not sure I’d call them super cops. I mean yes many of them came from or funded government programs, but they seem to butt heads most of the time then operate with.
The Sacovia Accord comes to mind. But I can understand your line of thought here for sure
Naw... niether fit the cop bill.
30❤
yes, "arresting" and torturing folk, not a fan
I know this probably won’t happen, but I’d love to see Larry Trask as a Pre-cog go against Revelation/ Cypher post apocalypse’s upgrade, either at the end of this (instead of Onslaught) or at least in another series after this one.
nope, not reading this... I'm heavy anti-cop.
I do not like much about the post-krakoa books, so far. this book actually has a really interesting concept. but the art so so atrocious. it's trash. can't do it.
The art is NOT Good, so it's a nah for me.
For me, as long as the writing is Good (with a capital G) I can tolerate any comic (case in point Jim Zub’s first Thunderbolts run {with a Gater artist that will not be named} the art was absolute trash, if it wasn’t for Jim Zub’s writing, I would have dropped the series after issue 2)
