Square Enix has issued a warning to investors that it will absorb significant losses for the fiscal year that ended in March 2024. The publisher and developer also said it is going to be "more selective and focused" in how it spends its resources. The recently released Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth is rumored to be struggling with sales, and their Splatoon-like multiplayer game, Foamstars, appears to be a dud. In other news, Microsoft has announced the lineup of games for Xbox Game Pass May 2024 Wave 1. Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition leads the way, with an updated version of Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, Kona II: Brume, and more on the way. And finally, Bethesda's Todd Howard explains why their Fallout games will always be set in America, even though the nuclear apocalypse was a worldwide event.

There’s the original FFVII and now the new trilogy remaking the original game (you can start with either one but the Remake trilogy games have some new stuff clearly geared toward those who played the original first). Spinoffs don’t really matter.
It’s not like Kingdom Hearts where you had to play the mainline ps2 games, a Nintendo DS game, a Nintendo 3DS game and a gacha mobile game to understand what happened in Kingdom Hearts 3.

When FF16 flopped, the fans came out trying to say the exclusivity deal didn't hurt it and that it was poor market conditions. Now this is the second major exclusive flop and the question is, will square enix free final fantasy from sony's claws and sell its games anywhere gamers are? hopefully shareholders make their voices known that the days where you can maintain your finances with one platform are long, long gone.
For the 5 people that would buy it on Xbox ? Oh wait. They want it day 1 on the Shitpass. Not even 5 sales

It's not about sales. They are cancelling some of their titles in development and focusing on a few. That's what's expensive.
@@schwubmexx xbox, steam, switch. combined easily more than 4x the install base of the playstation 5. But that's ok. Let square enix learn this lesson again. They deserve to lose money to learn it.
Did they think it'd be as successful as Remake? Remake released at the end of the PS4 lifecycle, with a massive install base. Currently PS5 has less than half that install base. Common sense would dictate that you're not gonna experience the same amount of sales.
That's what Square Enix gets for signing up for all these exclusivity contracts, they obviously don't work. They did the same thing on PC with Epic Game Store and had the same problem. Not to mention they're notoriously known for bad ports that they rarely update after releasing.
This has nothing to do with rebirth or any released project

Rebirth is selling like crap because everyone is waiting for all three games to be released so they can play the whole thing. Nearly 90% of the remake trilogy's buyers are older people that played the original FF7 so they want that experience.

Yall saying this is because of exclusivity are being blind. FF7Remake did great, it was also an exclusive. If this was a point of exclusivity, than both would of done poorly. It's about bigger issues.
Non exclusivity would definitely bring in more sells but the games would still be bad.
Yeah but you left out the part that ff7 remake was marketed as being a remake to og ff7 not a sequal everyone thought it will follow the same story just expanded midgar due to it being more then 1 game so everyone got it some people werent happy.
Thats why lots of people didnt even pick up ff7 rebirth because if remake wasnt what they wanted then rebirth wouldnt be either. Plus ff7 remake droped when covid hit so everyone was at home and it came out at the very end of the ps4 life thats when everyone had a ps4 becuase xbox one failed that generation but now ps5 doesnt have the same amount of users that the ps4 had and now its hurting square and they need to change their ways fast.
This isnt a console war thing they need to put their stuff on xbox switch and pc people complain about nobody wanting jrpgs on xbox yet thats clearly not true because persona is doing great on that system capcom and sega were both like square in the past yet now they are porting all there games to everything for the most part and they are killing it square needs to look at what they are doing if they want to get money back plain and simple.
@@pumpkinpie1509 You realize if their games get put on switch, they would be vastly inferior products right? We'd get switch ports of games, instead of games that push the needle. There's a reason games like Monster Hunter World couldn't be on it and it was a ps4 game. We wouldn't even have games like Elden Ring or Baldur's Gate 3 if companies started that line of thinking.
And yes, it being known as a sequel is one of the reasons it sold worse. Hence my statement of it was for different reasons than being an exclusive.

The situation with FF7 rebirth shows typical players nowadays. Developers provided an amazing game with 100 hours of cool content without additional payment and game stuggle with sales. After these "players" cry, where are games without monetization and interesting content. Go and play to Hellsh***rs.

Foamstars is actually pretty fun, just needs some tweaks so that the gameplay loop isn't so repetitive, maybe some different game modes. Plus, making it free to play would definitely help it a lot.

Why use an image of FF7? If you look at the statement from the company it doesn't even say Final Fantasy, and the reduction in the number of titles in the production pipeline probably means a focus on larger titles.

@@SpikeTheWolfthey made a game too complicated for old men and incorporated elements from all of ff7 rather then just the single game from over 20 years ago. They have struggled to cope with the fact that it reviewed and sold well despite this and now want to make it everyone else’s problem.

@@JShadow6661 that was inevitable. The last time any of them played those characters was kingdom hearts 2. And maybe some random gacha games. There isn’t any real case that can be made about the voice cast. Other then npc extras basically everyone is on par or an improvement. If you had an attachment to the old voice that’s one thing. But they were never going to bring everyone back for the English cast.
Maybe go back to turn based because Devil may Cry aint it
