  • After spending the entire winter in Kyiv, it's time to take a trip. But since the airport in Ukraine is closed still, all trips consist of going through Lviv on my way out, which is where I'll spend a week first.

What??? No, don't change a thing. I love those trains the way they are. There is an adventurous bravado for traveling in such a way. He rode PLATSKART’ in old skool lingo -3rd class $16 Kyiv-Lviv. It means "reserved seat." Platskart is swag! It's also the cheapest option for long-distance trains. The open-class carriage consists of 54 bunks. There is no privacy in platskart, and it is a choice of those who value economy more than comfort--tickets. Then you have coupe four bunks-$55 pp, and lux - 2 bunks -$150 pp with your bathroom, all according to availability. It's always tough to get private sleepers, even at scalped prices. You must know the right taxi driver and beware of counterfeit train tix.

If you have already came to western Ukraine you should take a trip to local palaces of polish nobles around Lwów. This area even now is highly influenced by Poland. At times when Ukraine was part of Polish kingdom, the real power were nobles called magnaci. Few of them were richer than Polish King. Most of their palaces are more impressive than mezhyhirya even after years of being abandoned.

The ramen situation, i've seen that in many places. People give it a good review because it's a hip food and most people never had a good version of it so they assume that it's how it's supposed to be... Could be ramen in Lviv or Borscht in Tokyo.

You must be a paid propagandist against Ukraine to say that Lviv Ramen is bad. A bad review in Ukraine is considered a high crime tantamount to treason. Arrest him quickly for his blasphemy against Ukraine - the Yellow and Blue !!- dark sarcasm is not allowed in the classroom! - play music in background--- if you dont eat your meat, you cant have any pudding.
Fredrik I like your comparison. Indeed. However Lviv is a chocolate and beer capital of sorts---not a place for ramen, sushi. But meat and potatoes--yum yum...Try the Slavic God beer in Lemberg--Lviv - made in Czech - RadaGost - The beer is named after the Slavic god Radegast. Stemming from the name for the beer is the slogan: "Život je hořký: Bohudík", a Czech phrase which translates into English as "Life is bitter: Thank God"
back to my off the wall rant connected to Pink floyd---lol
In Pink Floyd's The Wall, Pink's Mother asks to take him home, she cuddles him in arms made of bricks.
Ideologies can entrap others within their walls, and thus become bricks of each other's wall." Ironically, his mother is trying to trap him in her protective wall when this is what he is also being tried for. But the wall symbol goes much further than self-entrapment; love of anything is the brick in the wall -Giuseppe Verdi.

Id say its like an entire city full of soccer hooligans loyal to their team-Ukraine. Whatever, Ive had them block me from getting off buses when I used Russian. Since you are exposed 24/7 to the language; f-all the local politics, just attempt a new phrase a day ---- like burpees or situps. Johnny is like that plastic bag scene from "American Beauty."--gotta find art in life. There is always love and care in the world. We all come across similar settings without realizing and recognizing them. These rarest and priceless moments are not significant achievements but little tender moments. Your kid sleeping in your lap, having tea/coffee with your partner, watching the rain from your window from a warm cozy room in winter.
The great thing about it is that everyone can have their moments of relaxation. One scene which is ordinary to others may be precious for some. But we all do feel when that moment arrives. We love every bit of it.
We can relive that moment even by imagining. The floating bag in American Beauty scene was weird, and it would take some serious artistic sense to appreciate it. Now, seeing Ukraine with fresh eyes makes it all the more clearer.
