  • I've had several followers of this channel ask me how to create a flat style roof with parapet walls, so I thought it was about time to show how to Sketch this scenario. I also added some scuppers in to make things interesting!
You basically use a flat roof with a low pitch with a room lying on top, or walls from the wall tool, to accomplish the parapet walls. Adding scuppers is a bit tricky thought, so I'm sure there's something for even the seasoned Sketcher to learn from this video.

Great video. Could we use the floor of the room as the flat roof so that we don’t have to add both a roof and room?

I would say that it wouldn't be a good idea as it only should take a few seconds to add the roof over the room. Also, Xactimate may get confused if you're adding material to an area twice, if that makes sense?

I'm not sure if you can add roof items to that drawing and get the accurate sq footage of the roof and walls together to make one roof measurement?

You could graphically add the line item to the roof area and then apply it to the walls as well when the item is loaded to your cursor. The flat roof items should apply to the wall areas with no issue in my past experience.
