  • So, after months of waiting and a ton of requests to make another one of these, here it is! I know you guys have been waiting for a while, but you know, I guess that's what happened when you have such a huge backlog of other content to take care of. But either way, thank you everyone for the support and also all of the rather neat requests you guys have made for this part, it really means a lot to me
    And as always, if you have a cool abandoned railroad crossing request for the next episode, leave a comment below on this video telling me the location (or coordinates of it), and I will be more than happy to review it on the next episode!
    And I guess I don't have much else to say, so with that said, I hope y'all enjoy this rather long part, folks

    Chicago, Fort Wayne, and Eastern is a part of G&W, and is a former PRR track.
    Edit: Seves me right for commenting before the end. That Florida crossing is on the CSX Homestead subdivision, and it was just mowed in the past month. Railroad82 just did some videos showing the recent mowing. Apparently CSX is cleaning the line to show it to a couple of potential buyers who are looking to resurrect the line.

    Abandoned crossing suggestions:
    Main Street, Adger, Alabama
    Line: A spur off of the CSX Birmingham Mineral Sub
    9th Avenue & Jersey Street, Birmingham, Alabama
    Line: BHRR Fairfield Works Branch
    ( BHRR is the Birmingham Terminal Railway )
    Al-69, Oakman, Alabama
    Line: Norfolk Southern Berry Branch
    ( The tracks may not look overgrown but Mikes RXR site says it’s defunct )

    Awesome video! Here’s some abandoned railroad crossings suggestions:
    155th St W Burnsville, MN
    Very old Griswold signals (with one of them missing the top half) most likely hasn’t seen a train in over 20 years
    241 N Cherokee Ln Lodi, CA
    SP used to run there, and there was two teardrop bells
    Trenton Ave Uhrichsville, OH
    Possibly a B&O install
    S Ave E Cranford, NJ

    W. State of Franklin road in Johnson City TN- this crossing features 2 modern industries cantilevers with US&S 12X20 inch and 12X24 inch incandescent lights (which used to have bags on them but were removed because they were completely rotted) and 2 US&S mechanical bells. This crossing was owned by the East Tennessee railway and Norfolk Southern used to back some cars all the way down to their small yard up until about 15 years ago, now they drop them off at another part of their line, leaving it abandoned
    5393 coeburn Rd (VA 72) near Coeburn VA (on Google Earth it says it's in coeburn but it's technically just outside of the town limits)- this crossing is very interesting. It's on a small Branch line that was originally owned by the L&N and then went into CSX's ownership until about a decade ago when the only customer on the line shut down. This crossing features a pair of gateless signals the first one replaced the original signal in the late 90s, it has a safetran base, 3 pairs of safetran 12x24 inch lights and what appears to be a general signals type 1 electronic bell. And the more interesting signal is a us&s cantilever from I believe the 1960s, 4 pairs of us&s 8 inch lights and a US&S TEARDROP BELL sadly it doesn't ring these days
    Hopefully these can be included in part 9

    For Part 9, do 324 Grand Ave E in Chatham, Ontario, Canada. It has an abandoned crossing for the former CSX Sarnia Spur that used to run until around the late 2000's early 2010's. The farthest in street view for it is 2009. Now in 2024, the signals are still there except they paved the road over the old tracks and even the bell is still on it. I highly recommend you show it in the next one.

    Nice, I got some abandoned railroad crossing suggestions...
    22 Mile Rd. Shelby Twp. Mi. (I know you did that crossing already, but there was no back in time travel feature then)
    Dobry Dr. Utica, Mi. (I thought you did that one as well but no time feature then as well)
    Breitner Rd. Traverse City, Mi.
    Theodore St. Detroit, Mi.
    Hope this helps for your next abandoned crossings video

    The part 7 was owned by canadian pacific but these two were attually owned by the Minnesota commercial Railroad I think they abandoned this is because of construction but in part 7 same thing the factory shut down and got destroyed and is pretty much a park now (the line I requested in part 7 it went to a factory) also I just infact realized half a dozen grisswald crossings are left and they are all in minnesota now I feel proud to be a minnesotan railfanner

    23:22 that is not a gs type 1, it was always a safetran type 2

    • @Damon810Railfan
      @Damon810Railfan  9 місяців тому

      Are you sure? That bell does not have the housing design of a Safetran Type 2 (which by itself looks like an NEG E bell, but lighter in color), and neither the bell it had before was a Safetran type 2. I only guessed that GS E Bell was a type 1 since it was there probably for a good while before it got replaced by that newer GS E bell (either its just a newer type 2 or 2.5..)
      And like I said I know those bells since there's a ton of them on the North part of the CSX/Lake State Saginaw sub, since that's where I grew up by

    • @MorrisonFriends
      @MorrisonFriends 9 місяців тому

      @Damon810Railfan if the ebell was there in the furthest time travel then it is a safetran type 2, plus safetran type 2s are the exact same as neg ebells as neg used safetrans design

    • @Damon810Railfan
      @Damon810Railfan  9 місяців тому

      @@MorrisonFriends yeah that would be true, but what I'm saying that the bell isn't a Safetran type 2. Those bells have like a little cage design on the bottom of them, and as shown in the video, the bell that was there back in the earliest time travel was a shiny housing with a smooth, tapered base, in which I guessed was General Signals Type 1 E bell, which were used frequently by CSX back then, and those bells were made from 1995 up to 2005. And in the later years on Google maps at that crossing, it was replaced by another E bell which also has a smooth, tapered base, but it had a darker housing, in which told me it was a later generation GS Type 2, in which CSX also used in combination with the NEG E bell, especially the midwest. Trust me, I seen a ton of them around the northern part of the CSX Saginaw sub and a good majority of them still remain today

    • @MorrisonFriends
      @MorrisonFriends 9 місяців тому

      @Damon810Railfan here's a cool abandoned crossing for you to see in your next video, but you'll have to use the time travel and go to 2013 and that's the last year the signal was last standing, the signals equipment was all wabco, and it had a wabco mechanical bell maps.app.goo.gl/K8KiUc3tDaJyZLRF9
