- There are signs that a temporary ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war could be on the horizon as the CIA director touches down in Egypt, where negotiations are ongoing. At the same time, pro-Palestinian protests continue across the United States. CBS New York's Derick Waller reports.
Ceasefires don't mean squat in a ongoing war, it's just an opportunity to reorganize and reposition the troops to continue fighting.
Not to mention THE BLOCKADE OF ALL FOOD/WATER/MEDICAL SUPPLIES to the >2 million civilians in Gaza continues. Which means they don’t NEED to be dropping bombs constantly on every refugee camp & “safe zone” they funneled the civilians into & then bombed. They don’t NEED to have troops constantly brutalizing & shooting people of all ages & non-combatant statuses… They destroyed ALL the infrastructure- every hospital, the bakeries, the schools, the AP office- they have far-right ethnonationalist Israeli civilians blocking aid trucks; they also forced World Central Kitchen out by killing numerous of their aid workers, got the U.S. to defund the main UN-backed aid organization, UNRWA (based on accusations, many of which turned out to be false, that out of 30,000+ Palestinian employees handing out aid on their behalf, they claimed there were a tiny handful [single digits] who were collaborating with Hamas to fight back against Israel on Oct. 7th- again, even the tiny number they accused weren’t all guilty of that- UNRWA immediately fired them all anyway, but the US gov still did what Israel wanted & defunded the entire organization), so those were the sources of tens of millions of meals that were still getting in, gone…
At this point it’s literally just 2 million civilians locked in an open air concentration camp with virtually no remaining food or clean water, no way to get any in through the systematic blockade…
A “temporary ceasefire” under these conditions literally just means pulling IDF forces back to behind the blockade lines & letting some time pass- letting the starvation set in, waiting for millions of Palestinian Arabs to start dying off, by the design of the policy. It’s a more gradual method than some other genocides used, because the whole world is watching & they know that if they just shot every single Palestinian Arab for not being of the Israeli apartheid state’s preferred ethnicity then everyone who isn’t completely insane would recognize that for what it was… Clearly they’re hoping that if they just blow up every source of food inside Gaza, block all food from getting into Gaza, & undermine every major aid effort, systematically, intentionally starving them, then they’ll be able to rewrite history & pretend that this was just some kind of tragic, unavoidable famine that happened completely by accident in the midst of a totally innocent & legitimate “war against Hamas…” Except that they’ve been doing this ethnic cleansing & annexing one region after another of Palestine since decades before Hamas even existed, & throughout the starvation of Gaza they’ve been slaughtering hundreds of Palestinian Arab civilians in West Bank, where there is no Hamas government in pogroms, & Knesset members LITERALLY WERE TWEETING “Nakba 2024” & stuff like that which makes it explicitly clear that even in their own minds, they recognize that what they’re doing is a systematic purging of Arab non-Jewish civilians from the last corners of remaining Palestinian land that they haven’t yet subsumed over the last 80 years… It could not be much more obvious what’s happening at this point.
I suspect that the plan is for the US to build this pier that Biden’s been talking about, because Egypt hasn’t been willing to take millions of Palestinian refugees… Because obviously the Palestinians WANT to stay in their own land, WANT to just come to a peaceful political settlement as they’ve repeatedly asked for & demanded & been denied, but Israel has destroyed every means by which they could possibly survive, & the US government (through all this posturing about “trying to get Netanyahu to allow more aid to get in”), has never once even tried to demand that Israel lifts the ACTUAL BLOCKADE OF FOOD/WATER/OTHER BASIC NEEDS- & make no mistake. This would be impossible if the US didn’t continue to provide the arms, the money, & the diplomatic cover that enables the genocide to occur, so they HAVE the leverage- if they actually seriously threatened to withdraw support then Israel’s ability to do this & feel like they can get away with it would evaporate virtually overnight- so if they actually were serious about stopping the starvation that targets ALL civilians, they’d do that, but they don’t…
So then once starvation reaches a severe enough level, when tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands actually start to drop dead, I strongly suspect the plan is that the US (who claimed this pier idea was simply just exclusively about getting aid INTO Gaza) will suddenly say “Oh, well we built this pier, so we’re going to do the *humanitarian* thing & start having boats ferry the civilians out of Gaza…” Essentially, actively participating in & enabling the completion of this mass ethnic cleansing/genocide, but presenting it as humanitarianism- as if they’re just a concerned party doing what they can to reduce the tragic loss of life… By giving Israel exactly what they want- they don’t care if 100% of every single Palestinian Arab dies. As long as they are REMOVED FROM THE LAND that Israel wants to steal & annex & send Israeli settlers in to repopulate with their desired ethnic group & put that land under the control of this apartheid ethnostate where they can’t tolerate a region continuing to have a non-Jewish Arab majority, because they don’t even give non-Jewish Palestinian Arabs basic civil rights (ethnostates are always paranoid about having regions where a racial/ethnic group who aren’t the hegemonic one are the majority, because they oppress all the ones that aren’t the hegemonic one, so if there’s still a large majority population, they might start to organize & resist the injustice & brutality they’re being subjected to. Hence why the first thing Israel always does is displace the people who already live in a region of Palestine (a huge percentage of the people now being massacred in Gaza are people who were purged from other regions of Palestine which have since been annexed into Israel formally or their descendants), bulldoze their homes, send in Jewish Israeli settlers who the government literally pays to move into recently ethnically cleansed areas & start having as many babies as they can in order to permanently shift the demographics, & to make sure that there’s a Jewish Israeli family living where every Palestinian home used to be, so that there’s literally no way they can ever exercise their legal right of return (as people displaced by ethnic cleansing) & come back to their homes without then displacing the Israeli settlers who claimed those homes/that land for themselves… Which comes about as close to literally using your own civilians as a “human shield” as anything I’ve ever seen btw… The whole point is to eliminate the “undesirable” existing population & colonize that land as quickly as possible so that it can be integrated into this racist ethnostate with as little push-back from the handful of remaining, surviving Palestinian Arabs as possible…

How can Israel sustain its unity after October 7? Since the October 7 attack, we are not expressing hatred toward each other because our pain is much greater. But we are not far from how things were before October 7. We could return to that previous state in a matter of days.
It is also important to note that our divisiveness throughout the year weakened us and strengthened those who wished to attack us. A captured Hamas terrorist who participated in the October 7 attacks stated how the ongoing protests and demonstrations in Israel encouraged Hamas during their preparations for the attack.
When outside influences that pressure the formation of our unity move away, internal feelings of hatred resurface. We might believe that coming closer during tough times lets us develop while maintaining that closeness. However, this idea is incorrect.
We need to undergo a reset and rebuild our unity from scratch, without external pressure dictating our actions but out of our own choice to live in a common connection to each other, with a spirit of unity, support, care, encouragement and closeness dwelling in our relations.
When we are in a conflict of opinions, we need to equally respect those who we are against, acknowledging that they might also be right and have their own opinions, and that their opinions represent other people and citizens. Thus, we indeed should take heed to treat each other with more kindness.
Unity means that we are ready to set aside our own opinions in order to unite with others.

The fact that Israelis have lost confidence in their army and government's ability to bring the hostages back through force should be a huge sign of how badly Netanyahu's right-wing ideology has failed.
Not sure what your talking about, the military force is what has caused Hamas to capitulate. They keep dropping the exchange numbers out of desperation, recent talks have gotten as low as an even swap. A far cry from their original stated goal. None of this would have happened without military force.

Us telling Israel to stop won't cause Hamas to release the hostages. Following Hamas's demand not only does not guarantee the release of hostage, but also encourages future hostage-taking to make a country fall to its knees.
That's where US diplomacy comes in. Hopefully they'd see each other eye to eye, but that's US action. The point is that Israel can't do anything but retaliate.
