It's possible you have a simple thing called 'globes hysterics' or 'hysterical lump.' It happens a lot in anxious people. There are man articles that will tell you how to 'behave your way out of it." You need to find a therapist who treat it with 'CBT' or cognitive behavioral therapy." It's just anxiety; and when you truly believe this and relax, it will go away .

Very occasionally if I accidentally inhale a droplet of water (shower or swimming), or it hits the back of my throat wrong or a potato chip particles hit the back of my throat if I partially inhale it my epiglottis seizes up and I can't breathe for a long period, like a pinhole of air getting through. Then if I cough during this time it stays closed even longer. It's a very panicked situation and then eventually it relaxes but it feels an eternity. Any exercises for epiglottis or something that might prevent it from seizing up? My ENT said a long time ago there was nothing I can do.

Do you have a video for help with epiglottis? My sons closes when it should stay open while he’s running and they said it was caused by covid which made it “malfunction”

I have never heard of that. But I have heard of VCD with young athletes which might be worth asking your doctor about:

Hi so these exercises help when u have no epiglottitis and u also have a trach? Really want food again.

Hi Melissa! I'm so sorry to hear about the struggles with eating. Eating food is such a big factor for quality of life. I would highly recommend that you see a speech therapist who can make specific recommendations for your case and anatomical differences. Many swallow exercises aim to help out the epiglottic movement. Without this structure in place, airway protection is significantly compromised.

When patient is not able to follow the command then what will we do?

It is true that swallow exercises take a lot of cognitive capacity to be able to follow. Folks who have difficulty following directions or decreased cognitive skills may not be great candidates for a swallow exercise program. In my experience, the chin tuck against resistance or jaw open against resistance exercise require less cognitive-linguistic skills to be able to complete. Swallow exercises should not be prescribed in isolation and it is important to think of the client's entire profile when recommending a dysphagia treatment program.

So sorry to hear this! How frustrating and scary. Have you gotten checked out by your physician? You may want to ask for a modified barium swallow test.

@@SpeechSecrets no I haven’t gotten checked! I recently go into an issue with my insurance so I have to wait and reply which is also stressful!

That’s the worst. I hate when insurance causes stress to an already stressful situation.

Thanks for sharing your story and I’m glad to hear the operation is helping! I can’t comment specially on your condition or what the best treatment would be for you, unfortunately. The tongue exercises on my channel are geared towards individuals with weakness secondary to neurologic injury.
