it would be a tie between Vicious by VE Schwab and I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy! technically my favourite was The Hunger Games but that was a re-read..
Babel! I love the lyrical writing and strong, clear messages about certain topics that need to be discussed more in this current, chaotic state of this world. Thank you for the video, Emily! I really love your videos!
What's great about a video like this is that you really are in the moment and it's a reflection of the reading that made you happy over a particular year. Love it.
I recently finished Blood Over Bright Haven because you kept recommending it - and it was so good! The book had me hold my breath on like page six, cry the first time on page ten, hold my breath in the last chapters as well, seasoned with a lot of "Nooo!? Wait! What!"s, and it was a constant struggle with myself over the thought of "what would I do?". What a way to start the 2024 reading year!
It's feels so wholesome to me how you keep recommending and promoting Blood Over Bright Haven with the fact that it's self published and people pick it up because of you and they love it 😊 I might pick it up myself ❤
In the Company of Witches was my first read of the year because of you and I really liked it! such a cute witchy cosy mystery book to start off 2024! I’m planning on getting my hands on Blood over Bright Haven asap!
I forgot that you did this as a bracket last year, and I immediately assumed you were going to take about “Blood Over Bright Haven” for 20 minutes. So, o think your winner is the right choice for you!
Thanks for the best book recommendation. I am always happy to watch your videos. Love your passion for books and all the strong recommendations of great books. Keep up the good work :) Have a great day!
I didn't even know Blood Over Bright Haven existed until you mentioned it. I loved The Sword of Kaigen so I had to give it a go and you were spot on. It was my favorite book of last year.
I loved the first book and I'm currently reading Blood over Bright Haven. Yes, you car correct it hooks you right away. Loving it so far and thanks for the recommendations.
I finally picked up the Bone Saga Trilogy by Fonda Lee because of how much you were loving those books, and I loved them! So I'm definitely picking up Blood Over Bright Haven
Well done on the 106 books read. The cats are so adorable!. I thought it was just me who didn't gel with Hyperion- good to know I wasn't alone in my opinion of it.
Loved the rapid fire head-to-head way of picking your best book. And yes, one of the Jade books disappeared at some point cause I remember you putting the paper on the desk and then never seeing it again.
Watched trying to guess which you would choose out of each pair. Really entertaining. Feelings are sometimes more telling than a deep thorough analysis. Great job!! 💜
After finishing Blood Over Bright Haven (which I loved and never would have picked up without your recommendation) I told my boyfriend it would make a good movie!
I’m currently 40% in to Blood over Bright Haven and I can already feel it’s gonna be 5 stars! I loved Sword of Kaigen by her, I need her to write more books!
Blood Over Bright Haven was my first book of the year and very outside my reading comfort zone. I LOVED it, makes me want to read more fantasy this year! Great recommendation!
I read 112 in 2023 and I liked a lot of books but only loved. One of them was Blood over Bright Haven and if I were to pick a favorite from the 5 that would probably be it. So good.
@@BookswithEmilyFox it was clear, but I watch your video as audio only while working in the Lab, so it does help when you say things out loud! I will watch your videos anyways though I love the Sci-fi recs
Thanks to you, Emily, I can't wait for the Polish premiere of "The Sword of Kaigen" and when "Blood over Bright Haven" is released, I will also read it immediately.
Yes, Blood over Bright Haven is amazing! It was one of the first reads of this year :-) I also thought it would win this game. My favorite book of last year was The Will of the Many which I believe you are enjoying right now 🙂
Adding Blood Over Bright Haven to my 24 books to read in 2024. Thank god a stand alone won because I said I was gonna read whichever book was your winner and the idea of reading the Jade series was starting to make me anxious. 😅 I am not ready for it yet.
I read Blood Over Bright Haven in December after your and Petrik‘s recommendation and it made it to my top 10. This month I‘m buddy-reading Sword of Kaigen with Petrik and a few other Patrons and loving it. I think it will be my first 5 star of the year.
@@BookswithEmilyFox interesting. I loved her instantly. I was a little sceptical of Mamoru’s POV (the boy) at first, because I don‘t really like following teenage boys, but his POV is really interesting, too. Can‘t wait to finish it, I‘m currently 75% through. The husband, though, is annoying as fuck and every time he opens his mouth I want to slap him.
SPOILERS? Ok I feel you about the teenage boy POV, I had just started a book this week and I realized it was YA and teenage boy and... probably a DNF. I loved her as a character but she drove me nuts trying to be quiet and traditional when it's clearly not her. Her husband did annoy me a lot... it gets better. Maybe. You'll see :P
@@BookswithEmilyFox SPOILERS Yes, I feel you. I want to take her by the shoulders and shake her every time she talks negatively about herself. It‘s so sad that she sees herself as this Monster, because she has a violent side, when it helped her family in a time of crisis. And even then she‘s ashamed of having killed the soldiers, even though it was necessary for the survival of her children and her sister-in-law. I love her sister-in-law btw. She‘s so kind and amazing. This extremely traditional patriarchal setting is so frustrating to read about. I liked that the brother of Misaki (the female POV) is irritated by the way her husband treats her, and sees her in a whole different light than she sees herself. I think I have around 150 pages left, I’m really curious to see how it ends.
Just finished a classic I've never heard anyone talk about written by a woman, it was Mistress Anne by Temple Bailey. Overall I really liked it but of course some of the men in it are the worst.
@@BookswithEmilyFox it definitely is. First shock was just how far planet barbarian got 😂 second shock was I totally thought a green bone saga book would make it to the final round!
Man…it’s so wild to watch a booktuber that you’ve never met….read Blood Over Bright Haven, and think “If Emily reads this, this will be her book of the year”. Cross fantasy and feminism= Emily Fox

it would be a tie between Vicious by VE Schwab and I’m Glad My Mom Died by Jennette McCurdy! technically my favourite was The Hunger Games but that was a re-read..
Crucible of Gold by Naomi Novik. Unless we count rereads, in which case it would be Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers.
Unpopular opinions (for this comment section 😂), but it would've been Fourth Wing ❤😅
The Broken Earth trilogy for sure! Thanks to your recommendation

Ice Planet Barbarians making it so far is hilarious XD

@BookswithEmilyFox would you read other books in the series? I feel like the answer is "maybe?"😂
