Wild horses wouldn't get me to a rally. But each to their own. I'm so lucky I was born a 60's county boy. I'm also extremely grateful that my eldest maid married into a landed farming family, who's lands are historically diverse. That helps! I'm glad that you all had good weather, and I hope that everyone found the rally really enjoyable 😊 Well done on your finds Dan! 👍
As you probable know, I've not been into rallies and organised digs in the past, but I find myself on a few at this time of year when I'm waiting for crops to be harvested and the stubble to soften up. I think it's the social side of it that I enjoy the most, it's gives you the chance to meet face to face with very like minded people and also share the excitement of finding that wonderful history 👌.
My fields are almost ready, so I'll be back there on my own soon 😉.
Sound to me like you hit the jackpot mate, I'd love to have a farming relation 👍
@@DiggerDanMetalDetecting Yeh dan, I wasn't knocking you, or anyone else, simply passing an opinion. To each their own. We all have our pulls and our swerves, fair-play. I adsolutely see the attraction for the majority, the same as with Face-book. These things are 'for the people'. If not for them we'd all still be using morse and Arado MD's😉.

Hi Dan, another successful dig, that coin weight was my favourite, very unusual, stubble is hard going at times, but better than long grass, some realy great stuff coming up from that rally. that silver roman was a stunner, enjoyed watching as always. ATB Bill and Julie X 👍😊❤

Great video Dan as always. I know on group digs we have to wear headphones but always find it strange that pinpointers can be left on “bleeps”! 😊
I guess it's to do with other machines putting people off the sound of their machines, whereas pinpointers probably don't have that same effect 🤔.

Hard to beat a rally up there,amazing digging and history and you proved both with your latest outing.
Loved the commonwealth coin.
I've been on a few digs in Norfolk with different groups, but none as good as Cheryl and the East of England Rallies 👌. She always gets such great land.
That commonwealth is a big bucket lister and truely made my day 🙌😉.

Hi wondering if you could advise please. I'd love to get into the hobby having just moved to a new area, so I emailed my new council regarding getting permission to metal detect on council land, but they replied asking me for details of metal detecting insurance, what club I belong to etc! I havn't even started in the hobby yet and already being asked for insurance? I was under the impression I could just have a go so long as I had the landowners permission. I really cant afford insurance, membership fees right now so what can I do?! I didnt think there were so many barriers in the way before I started! Thanks in advance,

Yes you can detect without insurance, and like you said, as long as you have the permission of the landowner you should be fine. However I do have insurance for these exact situations. Sometimes councils or group digs etc will require you to have some cover. But don't worry, the ncmd (national council for metal detecting) will only charge you £8 a year and will give you public liability up to £10million. From the sound of it, you may be lucky enough to get permission if the council are asking these questions. Usually they just say no.
I would get your insurance and then get back to them so you can get out swinging 😁👌

So what is value of a hammered coin?
Only really what someone is willing to pay, and totally depends on the condition. Sometimes we are lucky to find a rare one and could potentially be worth a lot of money.
Personally I've never sold anything, as I just love the history 👌.
