James, such impeccable timing! I'm a student who lives on her own away from her parents, but normally i come home in the weekend to spend time with them. However my mother got COVID and i couldn't come home. It felt really lonely spending so much time alone cooped up in my student room when I'm normally used to the conversations and background noise from my siblings and parents. Putting this video on, even though we speak different languages, made me feel like I was a little bit at home again. So thank you!
Are you an aspiring artist tryna make it in the world, just like me?
@@RafelJaggai arent we all
@@safir2241 Tru tru, god speed good people of art 🤞🏽
I feel like I’m in your kitchen, smelling coffee, watching the wildlife out the window. Another wonderful painting, James. The way you filmed this, however, was the best part. No step-by-step narration did NOT disappoint me this time. Instead I need to get out of bed and start breakfast. My stomach is calling for food!
Thank you for an amazing start to my day!
Love the sound of a family. I live alone and it’s nice to hear human beings connecting in person. I forgot what that’s like.
Very, very little connecting happened in our house. However when my dad’s side of the family had holiday dinners there was an abundance of connecting.
For the kind of anxiety riddled depressive day I was having this video was very badly needed. Thank you Mr. Gurney for not just inspiring me to paint but also for making such a good video that helped calm my nerves. I needed this calming so badly. Thank you!
Nice PFP
Yes! This is one of my favorite videos you have done James. I absolutely love the slice of life background audio.
Two big things I appreciated: 1) that side-by-side edit of the observed scene and the captured depiction next to it, showing decisions. And 2) including the setting in which this was done- a great reminder there's no one "perfect" place to get work done.
Wonderful stuff!
Seems like a nice family and cosy time
The video is as artistic as the painting
Mr.Gurney I’ve read your art blog for years, ever since I was a teenager. I loved the blog, but I confess I never managed to watch a video all the way through (bad attention span for videos on my part, not you). This Video was the exception. I loved all the gentle background noise and ambient sounds, it was just enough distraction to hold my squirrel brain that I could concentrate on the painting, just like painting in real life. (I used to love working in cafes before the pandemic). It was a pleasure to watch you paint in real time. I watched it all the way through. Thank you for all your hard work and innovations.
The most badass grandpa. Love your work and harmony with everything
Great video! The camaraderie and support between You and your Wife is amazing. Painting a snow scene is not an easy task, well done.
love this.
I usually just listen to asmr as it plays in another tab because the visuals rarely matter to me, so it's nice to finally find an asmr video that's visually interesting as well.
Enjoying this video while I crochet. Relaxing! Thanks :)
What a great video, it was like being there having breakfast with your family. So enjoyable. Loved every min.
I really enjoyed this! I like your instructional videos too, but this was peaceful and chill. It was a great thing to watch after a long day. I also love the videos where you read quotes or bits of poetry. It’s so great to see you combining different forms of visual and aural art. Thank you!
The soundtrack and the mix with food shots remind me of Jan Švankmajer. This is wonderful
You two have the most wonderful accents - I could listen to you all day.
You're one of my favorite artists, thank you for sharing
Both of you are incredibly beautiful! And the painting aswell!
This was so relaxing! Thanks for inviting us in for breakfast and painting, it was delightful.
Love you and your wife. And happy to see you both painting. Such a beautiful couple. ❤
This was a sensory integrative experience. I can almost taste the food and smell the coffee. And feel the coziness of the warm room looking out over the chilly landscape. Nice! White on white. Hard subject. Nailed it.
You're right. The headphones really do elevate the experience 😊Lovely work.
Whoa….Jeanette’s hair has really grown out since the last time I saw her in person. Those snow bundles on the bushes are painted perfectly. Great video James
Lovely. painting...my favorite site on snowy days are the Juncos hopping and scratching for seeds in the snow. Seeing how much you slow down and carefully observe the subtle light changes on the snow is so helpful. Thank you James :)
Thanks for this video Mr Gurney! Love the new outro
Mr. Gurney leaning into those ASMR vibes...😍 also, Juncos are super cute, I love their little chit-chit antics.
This was relaxing, and inspiring! 💜 Also, I'm not a coffee drinker, but that scene at 2:09 was so satisfying to watch/listen! 😌 ☕️
ASMR painting hey...lol
You made me take up watercolors again and I leveled up because of what I learned from your videos. Thank you!
Wow! Beautiful scene ❤️
So peaceful 😍 thanks a lot for sharing 🙏
Love your style James, thanks for the great videos. Always done with such style and artistic flair!!
Amazing. Please do more slow, or near real time videos that show both the palette and the paper. One learns so much more from your masterful technique that way.
Agree. I’d also like to see how water and rags are used to control how wet the brush is, but that would be difficult to capture in the video and still be able to see what was going on in the painting.
@@marynorby9530 It would be amazing if Mr. Gurney could have a Patreon account, simply posting the full unedited videos for paid members who want to see the full process. I would sign up!
I just found out aboout this chanel, I can't believe it, I have such deep respect for Mr Gurney. So... don't mind me binging all these videos like I'm not well in the brain. Happy new year from Spain!
Beautiful painting. Love your videos so much! Inspiring!
"If I wanted to see a man eat an orange, I would have taken the orange-eating class!"
Joke aside, really love all your videos, this one especially. Thanks so much for sharing!
Beautiful audio along with the painting, love the ASMR...
I just watched the last episode of Joe Pera and then this. The perfect combination. Thank you Mr. Gurney.
Thank you so much Mr Gurney! One of the best videos I've found in a long time! Greetings from Medellín Colombia! I'm having a cold Sunday which goes perfect with this new video!
Lovely as always sir thanks for sharing
Did anyone else see the perfectly sculpted nose on the pallet ( white)? Also - strong shades of “ Allan’s psychedelic breakfast” ( Pink Floyd) 😄👍 loved it
Wow, I'm a Pink Floyd fan and I wasn't aware of Allan’s Psychedelic Breakfast. Those guys were so creative and so far ahead of their time.
REALLY LOVE THESE VIDS MR. GURNEY
Now I want oranges and coffee. :)
wow this was such an immersive audio experience!
Yeah, definitely like the Hollywood style to this video.
so so goooodddd
wow
I literally have the book Color and Light by you. Didn’t notice until the paintings reminds me of you and I checked the author 😂
Interesting way to say it, great storytelling and still great art!
Insightful and meditative to watch, thank you James. I think I’m still partial to the narration but loved this🙌
Such a lovely time and place in New England to have captured so well. I was just disappointed I did not pick up any sound except the ambient sound around you. I was using AirPods to no avail.
Love this channel, thank you
Very cool Mr. Gurney!
Beautiful Mr. Gurney
Interesting background sounds. Lots of crunching and chewing.
I love you both so much
i love this. thank you for sharing your day :)
BEAUTIFULL
It is so like Chinese painting, it's amazing. Did you think about it seing the result?
Thank you, I was thinking of Chinese and Japanese painting. Each tradition has a wonderful way of reveling in fractal-based repeating natural forms as the main subject.
Maybe a little less chatter
🙏🌊🔱🌪️🌪️🌪️
Such a nice NSFW....sorry, I meant ASMR experience! Not only seeing you work, but hearing it, too! Was even better the second time around when I heard it on my Beats Solo 3! Greetings to Jeanette and the rest of your family! Sounds so cozy and full of harmony!
BTW: I love your kind of showing us the beauty in everyday views!
Lord have mercy! I thought my stepsons were noisy eaters! Sounds like the mic is glued to the poor corn flakes. I was ready for delicate bird sounds and steamy coffee bubbles, not a replay of Ferdinand the Bull hitting the rice krispies. A bit too much reality for my ears.
As someone who is very misophonic, I turned this DOWN!
Still enjoyed the visuals, though!
First!
Sorry to say but that clanking background noise Jeanette is making is very annoying. I had a hard time enjoying watching you. The painting is fabulous.
The chewing made me mute, thanks for the visuals.
This is probably a lovely video as are all of your videos but I had to stop watching as I have misophonia and couldn’t bear the very loud eating noises!
Thank you james for providing such educational content for free!
I love this Binaural audio experiment :)! There are some really interesting options to capture the atmosphere, like microphone heads to in ear microphones that would include the outer ear so you truly get to hear what the recorder is hearing.
that being said, these are impressive results! (Painting/and audio wise)
Many/most of your sketchbook videos show your wrist watch so we can see how long you worked on the painting... sometimes while Jeanette bought groceries. I appreciate a real-time video...i imagine the video inserts of coffee pouring, orange peeling, and toast/bagel buttering are times you are letting the gouache dry between applications. Thank you for showing us your patience.
This was lovely. I ate breakfast with your family. I had my waffles, sausage, and coffee while listening to everyone plan their day. Thank you for inviting us into your home. It was a lovely cozy moment.
I really love the asmr vibe in this one, it's relaxing and satisfying ❤️
Really inspiring! I especially love the style of this one; it reminds me of both Chinese landscapes and Impressionism. Also, Juncos are my favorite birds. I live in the southeast and only see them a few times a year. Thank you for capturing them so well!
Your videos have motivated me to get me first plein air setup. I have used it twice and am completely hooked!!! Thank you for inspiring us with your beautiful art!
I really enjoyed seeing the whole process of this painting; it’s nice to see that once in awhile. However, on the whole I do prefer the regular videos with your voiceover. Beautiful watercolor!
The food sounds made me wanna tug my hair a little, and the chewing. But mute is an option that I found too late. Lol beautiful artwork is all about sacrifice.
I wonder if I can get those family cancelling headphones on Amazon!... Ahuehuehe
Thanks for inviting us into your kitchen, James. It was great that included shots of mixing on your palette and can see how much water (or how little) you sometimes use. Also good to see how you softened edges when doing the little snow puffs. I will recommend this video to my painting students!
Very nice. I always use headphones to watch painting videos. It was sort of funny watching you delicately paint those accents while somebody behind you was crunchin' on tortilla chips...presumably. 😆
2 things before I even watch the video. 1st That opening was so beautiful. 2nd, the spatial audio took me by surprise. I looked over my shoulder when I heard Jeanette's voice. That was interesting. Production quality on this was quite high.
Been a while since I watched one of your videos and WOW. This is way different from what I'm used to but I was so surprised and found this very relaxing yet entertaining.
Welcome back! Glad you enjoyed this video. Yeah, this one was a bit experimental. Trying out a new set of microphones and my 50mm 1.8 lens.
The audio is wonderful, but the painting is better. Thank you for sharing !
Beautiful
Another masterpiece. I enjoyed watching you paint with the family breakfast noice in the background.
You and your wife are so cute. Also, this was hella relaxing, as I sit with my morning coffee. And think about the house I'm in the process of trying to buy, right near some nature trails, and one of the perks I've thought of if I can manage to be successful in my bid for it is that I could PAINT! I mean, I still can... but nature trails are currently not my backyard.
This reminds me very much of trying to paint hydrangeas. You always surprise me with your initial values. I really enjoyed this; the subject, the coffee, and the painting.
What a pleasant video, Mr. Gurney! I enjoyed the family and home vibe, the sounds as much as the peaceful painting. Relaxing and lovely. Thank you. Always also very pleasant to see Jeannette. May you all have a lovely Sunday and a wonderful new week. Thank you for sharing!
I'm a huge fan, James, but I did not love the sounds of chewing in this video. Were they eating potato chips into the mic? Creative idea but please, no more eating into a mic!
3am can't sleep. Made a delicious lasagna. Ate it for breakfast with your painting and family.
I see why the headphones are needed. Sounds like they built breakfast with a hammer.. 😆 I'm halfway through & can't wait to see how all the off-white blobs come together into another great painting.
Crunch, crunch, crunch, crunch!
I have been wondering about this when I paint on my own, but what is that drop of clear viscus liquid comming from the fresh paint? I think in this video it was the red blob that made one.
Mooi!
Genial👍👍👍
that background noise isn't irritating at all!
this was very calming
Little cannibalism joke in the kitchen at 7:34.
Very nice to see longer stretches of you painting in real time.
Listening to this, I found out my family talks way too much lol
👍
I've been getting into painting and your videos really motivate me thank you!!
