James, such impeccable timing! I'm a student who lives on her own away from her parents, but normally i come home in the weekend to spend time with them. However my mother got COVID and i couldn't come home. It felt really lonely spending so much time alone cooped up in my student room when I'm normally used to the conversations and background noise from my siblings and parents. Putting this video on, even though we speak different languages, made me feel like I was a little bit at home again. So thank you!
I feel like I’m in your kitchen, smelling coffee, watching the wildlife out the window. Another wonderful painting, James. The way you filmed this, however, was the best part. No step-by-step narration did NOT disappoint me this time. Instead I need to get out of bed and start breakfast. My stomach is calling for food! Thank you for an amazing start to my day!
For the kind of anxiety riddled depressive day I was having this video was very badly needed. Thank you Mr. Gurney for not just inspiring me to paint but also for making such a good video that helped calm my nerves. I needed this calming so badly. Thank you!
Two big things I appreciated: 1) that side-by-side edit of the observed scene and the captured depiction next to it, showing decisions. And 2) including the setting in which this was done- a great reminder there's no one "perfect" place to get work done. Wonderful stuff!
Whoa….Jeanette’s hair has really grown out since the last time I saw her in person. Those snow bundles on the bushes are painted perfectly. Great video James
Thanks for inviting us into your kitchen, James. It was great that included shots of mixing on your palette and can see how much water (or how little) you sometimes use. Also good to see how you softened edges when doing the little snow puffs. I will recommend this video to my painting students!
Many/most of your sketchbook videos show your wrist watch so we can see how long you worked on the painting... sometimes while Jeanette bought groceries. I appreciate a real-time video...i imagine the video inserts of coffee pouring, orange peeling, and toast/bagel buttering are times you are letting the gouache dry between applications. Thank you for showing us your patience.
This was lovely. I ate breakfast with your family. I had my waffles, sausage, and coffee while listening to everyone plan their day. Thank you for inviting us into your home. It was a lovely cozy moment.
Mr.Gurney I’ve read your art blog for years, ever since I was a teenager. I loved the blog, but I confess I never managed to watch a video all the way through (bad attention span for videos on my part, not you). This Video was the exception. I loved all the gentle background noise and ambient sounds, it was just enough distraction to hold my squirrel brain that I could concentrate on the painting, just like painting in real life. (I used to love working in cafes before the pandemic). It was a pleasure to watch you paint in real time. I watched it all the way through. Thank you for all your hard work and innovations.
I love this Binaural audio experiment :)! There are some really interesting options to capture the atmosphere, like microphone heads to in ear microphones that would include the outer ear so you truly get to hear what the recorder is hearing. that being said, these are impressive results! (Painting/and audio wise)
love this. I usually just listen to asmr as it plays in another tab because the visuals rarely matter to me, so it's nice to finally find an asmr video that's visually interesting as well.
Lovely. painting...my favorite site on snowy days are the Juncos hopping and scratching for seeds in the snow. Seeing how much you slow down and carefully observe the subtle light changes on the snow is so helpful. Thank you James :)
I really enjoyed this! I like your instructional videos too, but this was peaceful and chill. It was a great thing to watch after a long day. I also love the videos where you read quotes or bits of poetry. It’s so great to see you combining different forms of visual and aural art. Thank you!
Your videos have motivated me to get me first plein air setup. I have used it twice and am completely hooked!!! Thank you for inspiring us with your beautiful art!
Really inspiring! I especially love the style of this one; it reminds me of both Chinese landscapes and Impressionism. Also, Juncos are my favorite birds. I live in the southeast and only see them a few times a year. Thank you for capturing them so well!
This reminds me very much of trying to paint hydrangeas. You always surprise me with your initial values. I really enjoyed this; the subject, the coffee, and the painting.
This was a sensory integrative experience. I can almost taste the food and smell the coffee. And feel the coziness of the warm room looking out over the chilly landscape. Nice! White on white. Hard subject. Nailed it.
I really enjoyed seeing the whole process of this painting; it’s nice to see that once in awhile. However, on the whole I do prefer the regular videos with your voiceover. Beautiful watercolor!
What a pleasant video, Mr. Gurney! I enjoyed the family and home vibe, the sounds as much as the peaceful painting. Relaxing and lovely. Thank you. Always also very pleasant to see Jeannette. May you all have a lovely Sunday and a wonderful new week. Thank you for sharing!
The food sounds made me wanna tug my hair a little, and the chewing. But mute is an option that I found too late. Lol beautiful artwork is all about sacrifice. I wonder if I can get those family cancelling headphones on Amazon!... Ahuehuehe
Been a while since I watched one of your videos and WOW. This is way different from what I'm used to but I was so surprised and found this very relaxing yet entertaining.
2 things before I even watch the video. 1st That opening was so beautiful. 2nd, the spatial audio took me by surprise. I looked over my shoulder when I heard Jeanette's voice. That was interesting. Production quality on this was quite high.
OK so first of all 1. the opening the bag chain ASMR proper stereo sound was amazing. 2. OMG your wife is so cheerful and upbeat, i usually saw her paint in some of your videos and thought that she was really introverted and quiet and even after so many years of painting together she still comes to you and asks you what are you painting, thats just something that our generation never does, they consider it work and no body talks about work. 3. you are really uping your game not only in audio but video too, including shots from the outside, from the coffee maker, wow. looks like you want to join the million followers club LOL (although you deserve to have 10 mil) 4. although the sounds of various activities in the house were distracting but once I understood that they there to convey the mood of breakfast, it all made sense.
Very nice. I always use headphones to watch painting videos. It was sort of funny watching you delicately paint those accents while somebody behind you was crunchin' on tortilla chips...presumably. 😆
I just found out aboout this chanel, I can't believe it, I have such deep respect for Mr Gurney. So... don't mind me binging all these videos like I'm not well in the brain. Happy new year from Spain!
Hi James what a treat it was watching everything come together to make such a beautiful, painting. I love painting, it’s just so hard for me, but it’s thrilling when it works out right. Thank you for sharing.Julie 🥰
You and your wife are so cute. Also, this was hella relaxing, as I sit with my morning coffee. And think about the house I'm in the process of trying to buy, right near some nature trails, and one of the perks I've thought of if I can manage to be successful in my bid for it is that I could PAINT! I mean, I still can... but nature trails are currently not my backyard.

Thank you so much Mr Gurney! One of the best videos I've found in a long time! Greetings from Medellín Colombia! I'm having a cold Sunday which goes perfect with this new video!
Amazing. Please do more slow, or near real time videos that show both the palette and the paper. One learns so much more from your masterful technique that way.
Agree. I’d also like to see how water and rags are used to control how wet the brush is, but that would be difficult to capture in the video and still be able to see what was going on in the painting.
@@marynorby9530 It would be amazing if Mr. Gurney could have a Patreon account, simply posting the full unedited videos for paid members who want to see the full process. I would sign up!
"If I wanted to see a man eat an orange, I would have taken the orange-eating class!" Joke aside, really love all your videos, this one especially. Thanks so much for sharing!
I see why the headphones are needed. Sounds like they built breakfast with a hammer.. 😆 I'm halfway through & can't wait to see how all the off-white blobs come together into another great painting.
Such a lovely time and place in New England to have captured so well. I was just disappointed I did not pick up any sound except the ambient sound around you. I was using AirPods to no avail.
I have been wondering about this when I paint on my own, but what is that drop of clear viscus liquid comming from the fresh paint? I think in this video it was the red blob that made one.
Did anyone else see the perfectly sculpted nose on the pallet ( white)? Also - strong shades of “ Allan’s psychedelic breakfast” ( Pink Floyd) 😄👍 loved it

Love the sound of a family. I live alone and it’s nice to hear human beings connecting in person. I forgot what that’s like.
Very, very little connecting happened in our house. However when my dad’s side of the family had holiday dinners there was an abundance of connecting.
I feel like I’m in your kitchen, smelling coffee, watching the wildlife out the window. Another wonderful painting, James. The way you filmed this, however, was the best part. Yes! This is one of my favorite videos you have done James. I absolutely love the slice of life background audio.

The video is as artistic as the painting

Seems like a nice family and cosy time
Great video! The camaraderie and support between You and your Wife is amazing. Painting a snow scene is not an easy task, well done.
Enjoying this video while I crochet. Relaxing! Thanks :)
What a great video, it was like being there having breakfast with your family. So enjoyable. Loved every min.
The calligraphic brushstrokes at the end give the painting such a poetic impact
Lovely. painting...my favorite site on snowy days are the Juncos hopping and scratching for seeds in the snow. Seeing how much you slow down and carefully observe the subtle light changes on the snow is so helpful. Thank you James :)
The most badass grandpa. Love your work and harmony with everything

I really love the asmr vibe in this one, it's relaxing and satisfying ❤️
You two have the most wonderful accents - I could listen to you all day.
The soundtrack and the mix with food shots remind me of Jan Švankmajer. This is wonderful
Another masterpiece. I enjoyed watching you paint with the family breakfast noice in the background.
Your videos have motivated me to get me first plein air setup. I have used it twice and am completely hooked!!! Thank you for inspiring us with your beautiful art!

You're right. The headphones really do elevate the experience 😊Lovely work.

Both of you are incredibly beautiful! And the painting aswell!
I really enjoyed seeing the whole process of this painting; it’s nice to see that once in awhile. However, on the whole I do prefer the regular videos with your voiceover. Beautiful watercolor!

Very nice to see longer stretches of you painting in real time.
so so goooodddd
3am can't sleep. Made a delicious lasagna. Ate it for breakfast with your painting and family.
I literally have the book Color and Light by you. Didn’t notice until the paintings reminds me of you and I checked the author 😂
Genial👍👍👍
wow
BEAUTIFULL
Hey James what do you do about pencil lines once finishing up?
that background noise isn't irritating at all!
