What Breaking 80 for First Time Looks Like

- I went into this evening round feeling good about my recent progress, but I never imagined what unfolded over the next 18 holes. My estimated handicap on the Grint at this time is/was ~17. My previous best on this course was 90. Not any more!
Thank you for watching and keep grinding.
Mike

Huge congratulations on reaching this amazing milestone sir 💯
That's the fastest comment ever! Saw you out there today. Was in the group behind you on 16-18. Hope you played well and thank you!
@@503Mike I’ve got my post notifications on for your channel. I didn’t play my best but had lots of fun. Sorry for any holdups that my two goofball friends caused 😅
Nah, no hold ups. We were just out for fun and a few swings, not scoring even.
congrats!
Thank you!
Hell yeah man!!!
Exactly! Thanks for watching
Congrats! I shot a 78 on June 18th, also my first time to break 80. The closest I’ve come since is an 80, but that was only two days later on an easier course. Too often I’m just a couple of bad shots or a blow up hole or two away. The grind continues!
That's great, both the 78 and 80. I guess what they say is true, scoring isn't about making more birdies (although they're fun), scoring is about eliminating the blow up holes. Good luck out there!
Shot my first under 80 round this past mothers day. 77 could not believe it. 3 years playing but such an awesome feeling. Congratulations
That's fantastic! Reciprocal congratulations! Have you repeated the feat yet?
Congrats, Mike.
Thanks man. As if I need another reason to be totally addicted to golf!
Super excited about your round. Always fun to beat your best. Cant wait to hit the course with you again.
I’ll still be walking on clouds Wednesday my friend.
Awesome shot in the 70s first time this summer...keep at it
Hey, thanks! I have no illusions of shooting in the 70's every round at this point, but it feels good to validate my feeling that I certainly have the skills to do so if I can keep it together. Thanks for watching.
Oh woowww!! Amazing! Congrats!!
Thanks, Andy. It was surreal in the moment, but also as fun as one would expect. Replicating it will probably even harder!
Congrats man! Looks like it’s coming together for you! Strong mental
Hey thanks! Actual. It came together at least for that round. We’ll see what I get in the hangover round.
Oink oink baby! Love it 😂 huge congratulations. My best round is an 80 so know how special that must have felt to break the barrier! Great play
Hey, thanks. It was super fun, but now I just want to do it again. Oink oink, indeed!
Do you think your filming and talking through the shots helped slow down and improve your shot selections? Strong mental (see TacoGolf!) on not losing it after the first double appeared on the card! I hope you shoot in the 70s again soon 👌
Filming is a bit of a distraction, but I am definitely the type who plays better loose and talking, so I think having the camera to talk to when I'm playing solo certainly helps me. Even when I'm not filming I will say all the same stuff outloud (lie, distance, intent) because it seems to help me.
I've also been reading up quite a bit on the mental side (expectations, mindset, gratitude, etc.) and I think I even mention it at one point in the video. It certainly helped shake off the double and really came into play down the stretch, especially after that horrible approach into the tall grass on 18.
Strong mental. Actual. Lion. OKEH! (big fan of Taco from early on)
Seventiesman! Almost qooked on the 18th 😅 Definitely a Lion on that round OKEH!
holy cow, playing out of your mind right now! LOL @ the Ricky Bobby quote
She’s always watching over us! And thank you for watching.
One under through 3, I thought I was on the wrong channel for a second. 😂 All kidding aside, fantastic round and congrats on breaking that milestone! I hope you bought that lottery ticket!
Hey, I thought I was on the wrong channel for the next 15 holes! I forgot to buy that lotto ticket because I couldn't wait to get home and look at the video.
@@503Mike You had some great shots man!
Thank you. It was def fun
Nice tempo in your swing, I am lefty and also putt righ
I have found my people! Thanks for watching
You putt right handed and hit everything else lefty, while breaking 80? That’s pretty insane if you ask me congrats
I suppose it looks odd, but I've been ambidextrous my whole life so it feels right to me. Thanks for watching!
You’d break 80 far more often if you just shorten up your backswing. You wind up like you’re John Daly lol
I know, and it's also the hardest thing for me to change! But I do work on it continually and find my best scores come when my swing thought is some variation of "half swing" or "short swing", as you might expect.
