This is a great tribute to Lemmy as he wrote the song. It's also a great tribute to all soldiers. The video shows of all the characters Sabaton has made sings about in the pa's. Fantastic tribute video and brings a message even today. War sucks and kills.
There's a ton of references to other Sabaton songs in the video too. There's two guys dressed as the 101st from Screaming Eagles, two ancient Greek guys from Sparta, the lady in the alley is Night Witches, the car they walk past is from Sarajevo, the Black soldier is from Hellfighters, the guy on horseback is Robert the Bruce from Blood of Bannockburn. At 1:40 you can see a Smoking Snakes patch on the guy's arm and the two biplanes and the bomber at the end are Tge Red Baron and No Bullets Fly respectively. The costumes worn by the drummer and Tommy are from the Royal guard and a couple of soldiers are referred to as "Sgt York" and "Lt Murphy" which are mostly likely Alvin York from 82nd all the way and Adie Murphy from To hell and back. Finally the bus at the very beginning is a Motörhead reference, as "No sleep till Hammersmith" is the album that made them famous
The Bomber at the end is actually a Avro Lancaster and not the Boeing B17 that the song no bullets fly is about. Not sure if it is a reference to that song or not🤔
The London bus at the start is a nod over a thousand London buses which were requisitioned and sent to France in 1914 to take fresh troops to the front and bring the wounded back.
I cried 😢 i listen to the song with all my heart. Thanks Sabaton....🙏 with this Video it will be complete 😢🇸🇪 As always Great 🤘🏻 I love these guys ❣️ 💙💙💙💙💙 Thank you friend for your nice words. love from the Netherlands 🇳🇱 🤎 Peace ✌️🕊️🌻
Amazing tribute to both Lemmy and all the soldiers who went off to fight for their homeland throughout history. Lemmy wrote this after watching a documentary about the 1916 battle of the Somme during which a survivor of the battle broke down in tears when talking about holding his best friend as he died. RIP Lemmy and all those who died for their countries, you are missed. great reaction and keep rocking Sabaton.
This song is about the Somme, one of the bloodiest battles close to 1 million died on both sides. I've listened to it a few times and noticed things others have missed, such as the line "HUN". The British referred to Germans as huns, which is an insult meaning barbaric after the famous Hun leader who conquered most of the world. Also, during this time, we had Canadian tunnelers working side by side with British troops trying to stop the German advance. In some parts, my great grandfather was at the Somme, wounded, and sent back home. Moreover, the British carried out a 7-day and night bombardment, and on the 8th day, they assaulted and took 20,000 casualties due to German artillery. This actually wiped out some regiments completely.
Great tribute, cover and reaction. I just realized that the cello part at the end is of course the amazing Tina Guo, which Sabaton have collaborated with several times before. 🤘🏻🎻🤘🏻
Beautiful, brings you to tears.........thinking about all those lives lost...... 🥺 And hundred years later nothing has changed.......... Great job Sabaton!! As a Swede I must say I'm proud of you, always bringing meaningful and important music! Great reaction, thankyou!
Tina Guo on the Cello after the main song. She's not Floor, but her playing is very nice. (She collaborated on Steel Commanders...) Lots of symbolism here, references to other battles, other Sabaton songs/stories, etc. The girl coming out of the alley, looking up at the planes, for instance, is a reference to Night Witches. So, it's a powerful song and video (and a cover of the Motorhead song by that name), but also fun for the Sabaton fans to see all the history and references.
As people have stated here, this is a cover of a Motörhead song. They two guys standing in the door opening at 5:00 are Mikkey Dee and Phil Campbell, the drummer and the guitarist of motörhead. The picture is of Lemmy Kilmister the singer and bassist of motörhead.
You've got a great musical ear to hear chelo at the begining of the song. Tina Guo is a mistress of the chelo. You can listen her playing and see her in Steel Commanders and at the 20th anniversary Wacken concert in Swedish Pagans :-)

1916 was written and originally performed by Lemmy.

First rule of war, young men die. Second rule, nobody can change the first rule. RIP to all those who did not grow old...

I consider Sabaton the Metal History Band. They even have a UA-cam History Channel. If I was in high school I'd use them as a study guide

The Motorhead Flag & Lemmy's portait more than fits as this is a cover of Motorheads original 1916 written by Lemmy Kilmister
