This song is wonderful. I like his simple guitar accompaniment too. I learned this song from John Roberts/Tony Barrand's Dark Ships In The Forest &
I've been passing it on to my Summer Sing for Adults class for 30 years or maybe more. Bedlam was a really scary place to be dumped if you were mentally ill. Joh & Tony have beautiful harmony. This guy is really good.

Bedlam or St. Bethlehem Hospital was the first charitable institution in London to provide 'care' for the mentally ill. It was probably no walk in the park, but way better than the streets.

That's a WONDERFUL rendition of one of my favourite songs, Amorkreuz! Thank you, thoroughly! 🙂👍 Subscribed - and may all you commenters and listeners on here, do likewise, and share the video, too! 🙂👍
Can anyone tell me also, what the fine instrument he is playing that wonderful accompaniment on, is? Looks like a guitar, but can't be a plain guitar. Some kind of a cross between a guitar and a mandolin, anybody?
    🙂👍

This is a 17th century song from England. Yes England has great traditional music too, but for some reason, they don't want everyone to know it. It seems as if they don't anyway.

I think the English folk revival sadly got eclipsed by the emerging British rock n roll scene of the 60s (not that I disparage it, I love rock too). That didn't happen so much in places like Ireland, their folk scene went far more mainstream and was and still is popular overseas.

Modern-day English, with a few obscure words.
For to see Mad Tom of Bedlam, ten thousand miles I'll travel.
Mad Maudlin goes on dirty toes, for to save her shoes from gravel./
[Chorus] Still I sing bonny boys, bonny mad boys, Bedlam boys are bonny,
for all go bare and they live by the air, and the want no drink or money./
I went down to Satan's kitchen, for to beg me food one morning
and there I got souls piping hot all on the spit a-turning
    [Chorus]
