Gen and Fei Long are pretty much the embodiment of every Kung Fu movie from the 70's and 80's in Street Fighter.
Gen looks like Jackie Chan and Fei Long looks like Bruce Lee

@@jilly9437 Yes, that character in Kill Bill is also referenced, or rather is based on the original Bai Mei.
Fei Long is literally a character made entirely based upon and in honor of Bruce Lee, Fei Long is Bruce Lee.
Gen one of the few people Akuma legitimately respects.

I like how several characters from the first street fighter game are more connected than you would think. Geki was Vega's mentor, Lee was Yun and Yang's uncle, Eagle is Charlie and Guile's comrade, etc.

I read somewhere that canonically Gen was the only one surviving Gouki's 瞬獄殺 and that instance I read it he became such badass to me

@@lxxdccvii3740 I remember reading it in a Hongkong comic series in late 90's. It was during the times of SF Zero (Alpha) when Gen 1st became playable. Obviously it was written before SF3 and Gouken.
Man, SF characters have a lot more depth and are more interesting when you hear their backstories. I thought Gen was just a very old and boring akuma but he is quite cool, caring and the fact that he is struggling with health conditions but doesn't want to give up yet is inspiring.

There's some sort of connection of between Gouken and Gen which does make sense for the trinity ( Ryu, Ken, and Chun-Li) to be forged.
As seen in the vanilla SFIV he's knocked down in the rain smiling and saying Death will conquer us all, but seems in the end of SFIV when he saw Gouken fighting which should have been dead he is now motivated to live and fight death itself

kinda remind me of Kenshin and Hiko Seijuro interaction. so on that note, I really wish to see Chun Li deciding to complete her training/techniques from Gen and become ultimate badass to finish Shadowloo (at costs of many things of course)
I think Gen won't be killed of until he fully trains Yang and Yung his nephews. I predict one of them will acquire a secondary fighting style just like his.

I think Gen has to come back in SF5 to reveal the truth about Chun Li's father. The reason why is because in Street Fighter 3rd strike Chun Li's story implies that she isn't focused on the circumstances of her father's kidnapping/Murder. Either she must of let go of the mystery or she did get closure.
Gen is by far the best character not only in Street Fighter history, but in the history of fighting games.
In regards to Gen I like him and would hope he'd return in a future Street Fighter game assuming he doesn't come back in SFV
Gen is Chinese!! He uses Kung Fu & Wing Chun.
Storyline wise he knows all Kung fu but because of gameplay limitations he uses only a mantis and crane based combination.

I can accept Gen not being in games if the twins could change fighting styles as a super to Gen's or even as a command in later games or DLC.
Just watch Xian play Gen and let me know whether he is a solid character or not. The character is pure bad ass.

I always liked Gen because he reminds me of old kung fu movies where sometimes there'd be an old character with a long white beard that could still kick anybody's ass. Like the guy from Kill Bill, who I think was a tribute to those old movie characters.

Gen in the Alpha series can be difficult to fight, and not very easy to use.
Rather unsporting of Akuma to deny Gen his battle after he survived the Shun Goku Satsu as well as being able to deliver his own devastating blow despite age and illness. The fight may not have been fair, but Gen earned a proper death.
Didn't Akuma kill Gen in the comics? I could swear they had a rematch and Gen was mortally wounded. They talked a bit, Akuma left and Gen died in the middle of watering his garden, I think...
The comics aren't canon, but yes, Gen did die fighting Akuma in one of them.

Gen was in the first Street fighter but when Street fighter 4 came he wasn't a playable character again beacause in the first Street fighter the CPU was controlling him in Street fighter 5 he got defeated even if he we're defeated he was still a hero still to China and best fighter in the world 😀😄 good video man
He was only defeated by Akuma because he was extremely ill.

yeah, Gen has always been one of my fav of SF, they should have him learn Tai chi/taoism/daoism and find immortality.
I'd love for Gen to have one last hurrah before leaving this world. ^^
Gen is by far my favorite character in the Street Fighter series (though I don't like how they changed his personality from serious and stoic from back in the Zero sub-series to the more wily and somewhat obnoxious in SF4). He fights purely through skills rather than artificial or supernatural powers like Vega (dictator) and Gouki respectively. Only Gouken can match this!
Roger what are you talking about? There's nothing wrong with how he acts wiley in SF4
He's not calm and stoic like he was in SFZ2~3. He yells too much in SF4. His out-of-style hair bun (which doesn't even makes sense even considering his age) doesn't help either.

I there is more to the story....I think it all has to do with RYUs parents.
Gen is also a master of Chinese Anshaquanfa (暗杀拳法 Chn. Ansatsu kenpo Assassination focused martial arts). In Chinese his style would be called 忌流 (Ji-liu; Abhorant ) and 喪流 Sang-Liu (Mourning). He actually uses Tanglong quan (螳螂拳Praying Mantis) and Baihequan (白鹤拳White Crane Boxing)
