I have always has issues with paint adhesion, so I hate masking and try not to use to avoid paint peeling off. What would you recommend???

Hit it with some primer first so the paint has something to stick to. A lot of plastic models are too smooth the apply paint directly, so base coating with some black paint will improve adhesion.
