This league is being governed by people who have nothing to do with the WNBA! Like the KH contribution dynamic, follow the money and you'll see some weird things! Don't blame the refs! They're just following orders!
The Commissioner is the main issue, beginning with her attitude towards complaints about referee's. She must first acknowledge that there is a problem, instead of dismissing the notion that there's no problem. Bring in a new group of referees who have been properly trained, and enforce the rules and policies any address those violations!
So basically her "solution" is to install a study of the referees to determine if there is actually a problem and to offer suggested actions that could be considered. Meanwhile, Clark still has a target on her back, the referees still suck, and no changes were made to suspend players targeting other players like the Chicago team did with Caitlin Clark all of last year. They played 4 games and had 9 of the flagrant fouls called for actions taken against her, plus at least a dozen that should have been flagrant calls but were either called normal fouls or no foul at all. The fingernails to the eyes comes to mind. Whether intentionally done or not (it was intentional), it still was potentially career ending, and that makes it the highest level foul possible. That player should have been ejected and fined, with a suspension hearing as well. Yet no foul at all was the on-court call. And a study group is supposed to fix that? Englebert needs to be fired. She's more interested in creating controversy and enabling racial tension than she is with player safety. She seems to perceive the players as being no more important than her espresso maker. They are property to be used and cast aside. Time to quit fishing and actually cut bait. Install a Commissioner that will advance the league by humanizing it. My choice would be Nancy Lieberman.
Let's hope they aren't hiring from the same pool they got the last inept bunch. Also if the last bunch was trained you seriously need to reevaluate your training regime. Also, they need to have a pool of referees from which they can draw replacements when a referee in the middle of the season is shown to be incompetent or compromised.
In my opinion and I stress, my opinion, the officiating problem stemmed from the top. Englebert wanted to guide the WNBA narrative her way. It's more than just the finals. She has tried to thwart Caitlin Clark from the beginning. I believe the refs were told to allow the hard fouls against Clark because she didn't want an upstart newcomer interferring in her plan to mold the WNBA her way. She didn't want any credit to tarnish her desire to be known as the savior of the league just like the Clark haters don't want anything to diminish thier records and contributions to the league. Throwing the refs under the bus with these changes are a smoke screen to divert attention to the real problem in the WNBA. Y'all can look at the data and determine what you think the truth is yourself.
I think all the referees had an agenda they were following. I wouldn’t be surprised if the owners and the commissioner had some input on how the games were called.
Oh come on everybody knows that the Refs are on the take , there is no question they have been bought off and the championship game was decided before the game even started .
WHAT MAKES IT WORSE IS THAT IT WAS CHALLENGED BY THE LYNX where they had multiple views, but it still wasn’t overturned that’s criminal not just a mistake
And CC would have scored 100 more points had she gone to the line every time she was fouled. She went 13 of 15 in one game, (I believe her first 30 pt. game), and then the refs stopped calling them. Look at the season and the team overall to see the blatant discrepancies of any team vs Fever and foul shots taken. The bias is obvious. Now ask "WHY?"
The problems start with Sue Blauch, the VP of Referees, and Cathy Englebert, the incompetent commissioner. Get rid of those two chumps and watch things improve.
@@lazaruslazuli6130Take a senior ref from the men's side and elevate them. Then replace the current Commissioner with Nancy Lieberman. There was no foul on that game ending play but the refs were favoring all season. Clark was beat up all season and who came to her defense. Engelbert was not living in the same universe. Only two referees? Unbelievable.

Will these changes be enough? Or it it a case of too little, too late?
Is there a match review committee. The 3 person panel analyses each game each week. I may be ignorant but I haven't heard mention of one

They had better do something with the officiating in the W. They’ll lose viewership if nothing is done. Refs were absolutely terrible.

Hiring 2 new officials....that doesn't help with the worthless officials that are still there. They need to do better.
The question is who ordered the refs to do it that's the problem we need to get rid of

Where are they hired from? Ones who weren't good enough for pro ball, Collegiate, or retired referees?
All the more reason to replace the commissioner Cathy Englebert ASAP.

She gave the NY liberty the championship and everyone knows she's the problem.
The commissioner had her NewYork dress on, so that tells you the game was decided before it had started. Nuff said

ONLY TWO? What about the Comish?
Easy to see the games were rigged like the MVP
Get new refs. Fire those jerks who are pretending to berets!
If these 2 new positions are to oversee officials, they better find exceptionally good people to fill these jobs.
What done is done in 2024🏀. But if the new referees! In 2025🏀 cheat!. You dont want the Fans on the court.
IF THE LEAGUE DOESN'T RESPOND WHAT'S NEXT ??? WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF ONE OF THESE MISSED CALLS RESULTS IN A PLAYER BEING PERMENTALY INJURIED OR WORSE???
That's if you think the league actually cared about its players.
Yes, but has the W told them to this? 🤦♀️
The little black ref was the worse.
Does the commish even watch the games, is she blind?
Nothing has gotta change until you get the woke nonsense out of the honchos of the WNBA. They all need to go.

WNBA referees officiate the games the way they're told to. Bringing in new referees won't change anything. The problem starts at the top.
