This is one of those songs that you feel and what good music feels like. He mentions how the first time Ian hit that eerie "top A" how it made all of their hair stand on end. That was over 45 years ago and it continues to raise gooseflesh on music lovers.
One of the 10 greatest single song recordings in rock history. It is a classic example of the genre created by Mark 2 with their monumental "In Rock" album. A genre of which only they ever played. These five were quite simply, the greatest group of pure rock musicians ever.
This is so superior having all this talent as a group and each member with superior talent alone. Jon Lord, just talking about the band as a music documentary, is superior by itself. Someone needs to compile all interviews into a mega documentary.
Absolutely brilliant song of great album!!! Deep Purple is one of the best greatest rock band ever!!! Love this band 45 years and listen to their amazing songs every day!!!!!!!!!
"How important that song became behind the iron curtain..." I was one of many millions behind that damn curtain to whom this son became so important. In fact, this song was one of not that many things in my life that kept me going. Thank you, Jon!
Wow, really? I'm just not learning about Child In Time. I heard it was important in a Cold War context, but I didn't know it was important to Russians too! So intense!
I am an offspring of a person, to whom this song was very important to. My first memories are from -94, 4 years after the reindependence from Soviets and he still tiered up listening to this song. I love this song and I will always love deep purple!
Who cares?I only look upon the five strong band members who've created history in rock.My all time favourite guitarman Mr.(they should give him Sir)Ritche Blackmore.
I was just listening to Uriah Heep's masterpiece from '72, Demons and Wizards, and that album has classic epic songs from start to finish. It's an amazing work. Those guys have always been underrated and should be in the HOF. If you want a great 40 minute listening experience, revisit it.
Saw DP headline at The Warehouse in New Orleans in 71' Rod Stewart opened the show. DP opened with Speed King and closed with Child in Time. Everyone that was there has never been the same since!!!!
Since my youth, from when I heard this track for the first time, it has been my favourite song by far. And it will still be for the rest of my life. There can't be anything coming close to. Never.
Mark2 created their own genre with this monumental album. A genre of which only they ever played. They were quite simply the greatest group of pure rock musicians of all time. It was a miracle that they ended up together. If the record company of Episode Six had gone all in on Gillan's magnificent "Mr Universe" there very likely would not have been a Mark2 as we know it.
I had the LP in 1970. I remember the song as if of yesterday. All the memories come back, all the memories come by. I still find amazing that a "hard rock/heavy metal" band could produce such a romantic song.
My Dad played this song so often when I was 3, 4 years old. This explains why I love this band and especially this song. It had an influenced on my taste later. Many bands were influenced by Deep purple. Surprisingly, my Dad listened to Jimmy Hendrix too, I didn't enjoy it much, although I must admit that he was a great musician, too.
Awesome in every sense Great song and perfectly played - it's even better on Made In Japan too Superb guitar from Ritchie and everything you'd ever want from Paicey, the Glove Man and the wonderful Jon Lord. Gillan doing the scream like only he could Great post
What's amazing is they would be on the road, come back to the studio, record a bit, back out on the road and so forth. So, by the time it came to Ritchie doing his solo on CIT, he was told, okay, you've got 5 minutes, have at it. And in that short remaining time, he produced that solo!! That's genius!! And to think he apologized that the solo was not better)).. I will be honest and say that CIT is my absolute favorite Purple song. It's symphonic in many ways, not a standard rock song construct.
My favourite Deep Purple song, instead Smoke on the water which is de most famous band recording. I had 15 years when discovered and became a Deep Purple fan from that time.
One of the two song that smash me, with Black Sabbath from the first album...Well, you got a be stone in those time...Remember listening to it on mono pickup...
Now I know why I've always loved this song the best of the Purple songs. I adore Bombay Calling by It's A Beautiful Day as explained at the beginning that it was modeled from 1
Its probably considered sacrilege in most parts but I have always preferred Deep Purple to Sabbath and Zeppelin. I think this song is superior to stairway to heaven because of its sheer power. Ian Gillian was the best vocalist of the 3 bands (which this song displays perfectly) and only matched or bettered by the late great ronnie james dio from that era personally. And still one of the best guitar solos of all time.
I agree with this. I think Stairway is overrated, and that Child in Time and Bohemian Rhapsody are the two standard bearers of the era, for their drama, building, complexity, shifts, power - and the musicianship. Oh, the musicianship. And Ian Gillan. And Purple with Blackmore AND Lord. And Paice.
I agree with you to! IMO Deep Purple mark two was the best band ever and Made in Japan the best live record ever. I'm not alone in this. Many great rock stars like Bruce Dickinson express the same opinion.
Without a doubt DP is the best band of the era, and Gillan best vocalist. There really is no comparison for depth, variation, talent, versatility, complexity, beauty, power, impact, and influence.
Paul M The studio version was recorded with a Gibson 335. When Blackmore started playing the fender, it seem to me he never could capture the "essence" and acuracy of the original guitar solo. Everyone would agree that "Fred" is #1 in Rock vocalist. David Byron of Uriah Heep would be #2 in my opion.
so iconic song you can be straight and this tune can blow you away as in get you trippin you dig .souful tune .got to wear headphones a must thxz zz for post
Es como un "Dazed and confused live at MSG" o "How Many More time live at RAH"
Sweet child in time You'll see the line The line that's drawn between Good and bad See the blind man Shooting at the world Bullets flying Ohh taking toll If you've been bad Oh Lord I bet you have And you've not been hit Oh by flying lead
this song still gives me goose bumps to this day even after 40 odd years of listening to it., sadly when I saw them live in Brisbane it was one of the only songs they did not do, I suppose Ian's voice was no longer up to a top A in full voice...
I think after that Black Sabbath experiment he fucked up his voice. Hearing him at the perfect strangers reunion in 84 85. He couldn't get they range anymore . Still a great singer though.
Pug Luv there was a strong rivalry between the two groups. looking back, led zepp was slightly more popular (in part bc r plant had extreme mannerisms, more than a real woman, that made him famous) but purple had more talent. plant can't compare to Gillan (or even Coverdale) neither can J page compare to Blackmore, notice the style Jimmy played in led zepp 2 famous solo and Blackmore's child in time. Ritchie shifted from the initial legatto to a powerful stacatto like anything and did it again in the instrumental A 200 guitar virtuoso. Go Purple !
Freaking EPIC is the only word....sadly underated and underplayed why do radio stations care How Long a song is for crap sake....this kick ass...!!! 😁👍✌
One of the greatest rock songs ever. All the best parts of the band come together and shine. The vocals are incredible, but I suspect it did not do Ian's vocal chords any good in the long run.
When I was talking about rock music with my English teacher from USA he said that yeah Deep Purple are great but we prefer more Led Zeppelin. I always was wondering why it is so. In the other hand former USSR countries, Eastern Europe, Japan and South America prefer Deep Purple to ledzepp. This is kind a phenomenon)) I cant explain it for my self.
Still can't get over how dead the crowd was no matter how many times I watch/listen to this..as I've grown older I realized they had all just been forever changed..wish I could have been there man.
The best song and the best rock band of history ❤
The band were on fire with this track and Gillan's vocal performance never bettered.
Utterly fantastic.
DEEP PURPLE FOREVER!!!!!!!!

Ian's voice........beyond anything!.......this is beyond description!.....Lords organ perfect counter to Ian's screams!!!!!! Very haunting!!!
I've always felt that this is one of the most powerful and emotive songs ever recorded. After all these years it still amazes me
This is the song that got me hooked on Deep Purple -It's epic. A rock masterpiece!
35 years listening to this song and it still as good as when I first heard it.
A masterpiece!
same for me.. i can listen on repeat until i die
This is one of those songs that you feel and what good music feels like.
He mentions how the first time Ian hit that eerie "top A" how it made all of their hair stand on end.
That was over 45 years ago and it continues to raise gooseflesh on music lovers.
im listeningt today 4 times... j happy new year!
One of the best songs I have ever heard so far in my lifetime. Just breathtaking i'm glad this band exits.
One of the 10 greatest single song recordings in rock history. It is a classic example of the genre created by Mark 2 with their monumental "In Rock" album. A genre of which only they ever played. These five were quite simply, the greatest group of pure rock musicians ever.
I'm gonna put u on my record album - one day bitch.
The very best.
One of the greatest masterpiece of all time!
It's because of Gillan voice . His vocals were incredible around this time.
John Franczak
You say it.
MM's Historie it's a masterpiece
It's because of Ritchie's most powerful guitar solo. Pure masterpiece!!!
Nesrmrtelná hudba, nesrmrtelná kapela. Děkuji Deep Purple.
This is so superior having all this talent as a group and each member with superior talent alone. Jon Lord, just talking about the band as a music documentary, is superior by itself. Someone needs to compile all interviews into a mega documentary.

Who cares?I only look upon the five strong band members who've created history in rock.My all time favourite guitarman Mr.(they should give him Sir)Ritche Blackmore.
THIS IS HOW IT SHOULD SOUND... fantastic, spin chilling,unforgettable... long live Child in Time
Always been one of my favorite DP tunes. Will always stand the test of time, such a powerful song. R.I.P. Sir Jon.
Nothing compares to the LIVE 1970 performance 💜 of this song!! The best rock performance of all time!!
Taking nothing away from Queen, the Who, and Led Zeppelin, this is the song of the era - and the generation.
John Pelletier good opinion..but it's an opinion
Sure, of course. Just my opinion.
for me it goes between this song and bohemian rhapsody.
let's not forget that master piece
I was just listening to Uriah Heep's masterpiece from '72, Demons and Wizards, and that album has classic epic songs from start to finish. It's an amazing work. Those guys have always been underrated and should be in the HOF. If you want a great 40 minute listening experience, revisit it.
Montreux ,Switzerland 1970.... I 'll never forget...
The reverberating organ makes may hair stand on end to this day. One of the most beautiful organ pieces of all time...
I bought " Made in Japan " as a 19 year old in 1974. The version of this song on that album is the best you will ever hear.
Saw DP headline at The Warehouse in New Orleans in 71' Rod Stewart opened the show. DP opened with Speed King and closed with Child in Time. Everyone that was there has never been the same since!!!!
1mikera saw the same show in Da Burgh my ears r still ringing! Faces were great also...So Many Great Bands in 70&71
The Greatest Masterpiece of ALL!!!
What a song! I first heard this as a 6 year old, I'm 47 now and it still blows me away, there will never be anything like it ever again
My mom used to put me to sleep to this song when I was a baby.. probably explains why I love music so much
Your mom rocks dude, respect!!!
How did you not wake up when screams started? Or did she played just the first part, lol.
:))
Over 10 minutes of greatness!
Best song of the era. Try listening without the video, in the dark. It's overwhelming.
Blackmores Rainbow 'Catch The Rainbow' just tops it to me :)
Like a roller-coaster! Just perfect!
one of the best Songs ever!
Imperishable masterpiece!
Since my youth, from when I heard this track for the first time, it has been my favourite song by far. And it will still be for the rest of my life. There can't be anything coming close to. Never.

Hendrix was a monkey which is why I didn't like him
How can 3 people not like this ???? Unbelievable.
They were the 3 members of the band it's a beautiful day!
Mr Lord and a Hammond, pure bliss. Miss you Jon.
i really miss the 60's,/ 70's,
Eternal hit- child in time
One of the best Songs from Deep Purple.
Certainly the greatest live vocal performance I've ever heard.....
What a great video and part of rock and roll history..., the best version of DP.
Still gives me goosebumps, top 10 track
Greatest single rock song ever recorded.
Love this song. My favorite version is from the Made In Japan album. Wore that out as a teenager.
Awesome in every sense
Great song and perfectly played - it's even better on Made In Japan too
Superb guitar from Ritchie and everything you'd ever want from Paicey, the Glove Man and the wonderful Jon Lord. Gillan doing the scream like only he could
Great post

Good Old Days, RIP England, My Lionheart...
Greatest band at the best time!

Beautiful black and white clip
Or like to take 50 years of nostalgia in the head
Saw the Ian Gillian band live in the isle of man in 1979 never forgotten it ..purple are class
Greatfull song and the solo is Killer. I destroyed the repeat Button 🤘
One of the two song that smash me, with Black Sabbath from the first album...Well, you got a be stone in those time...Remember listening to it on mono pickup...
ledgendary .rip jon lord .miss ya man .
The best song ever rock history
And today reggaeton is the music of most young people. We are in the midst of a musical involution.

Life is Deep only in Purple rhythm an' melody for an old drummer...🤘🏻✌️🏻
Never see the likes of this again . Sheer magic .
Now I know why I've always loved this song the best of the Purple songs. I adore Bombay Calling by It's A Beautiful Day as explained at the beginning that it was modeled from 1

wow perfect song..👍
Sweet child in time
You'll see the line
The line that's drawn between
Good and bad
See the blind man
Shooting at the world
Bullets flying
Ohh taking toll
If you've been bad
Oh Lord I bet you have
And you've not been hit
Oh by flying lead
It always sound like it has been just released...all over the years.....a legendary song

Gillan's voice blows me away, for sure, but you can't compare to Plant, they are so different! Both gifts from God, I say.
Pug Luv Led Zeppelin is great band, but the fans are bunch of bitches.
and BTW,Gillan and Plant are close friends
Really? I'm a big fan of Gillans and I didn't even know that they knew each other personally.
joelombrdo yes,I was surprised to know that too.

Zepplin are good, but not in the same league as Purple.
*Love* the photography.
Love .... It's A Beautiful Day
Increíble canción. Una canción para la historia del rock.
Still can't get over how dead the crowd was no matter how many times I watch/listen to this..as I've grown older I realized they had all just been forever changed..wish I could have been there man.
Child in time ❤restera dans l’histoire

Amazing beautiful unique strong powerful magical forever forever forever #deep purple
what a great bloke, so british, so humorous
British created Rock.It is originated there. No rock from or in America.
when british was for the british, not anymore
The best and most influencial solo of the history... point.
my inner child want to go back in time when i was just 17 year in 1970
Pure drama! It‘s epic!
