Great channel!
Equalizer makes an extended length shank for their WDH that fits a 2” receiver that allows you to lower the tailgate fully. It did for me with a 2006 Dodge 2500 and my 2017 Rockwood 8327SS TT.
Don’t see an extended shank in the 2-1/2” receiver size, unfortunately, so you’d have to use an adapter sleeve to use the extended 2” shank with the newer/larger hitches.

You also can turn the head on the trailer jack 90 degrees. This allows the tailgate to open with trailer hooked up. Just did this on our Grand Design toy hauler. 2 bolts to remove, pull up jack motor, tap the other holes to 5/16-18, reinstall jack head with switches to the side of your choice and reinstall bolts.
Extended hitch will magnify the tongue weight also so be aware of that.
I also rotated the tongue jack, it worked out great. Wanted to use a 2.5 inch drop hitch on my 2018 2500 for towing my Grand Design 2600RB. It's a little smaller than the trailer in the video. I used to haul concrete silos behind a 1998 Cummins powered dually. 20,000 lbs and 40 foot long. I argued back and forth with my hard headed boss about using an extended shank while towing that trailer. He finally lost that argument when I hitched up in the yard and almost lifted the front wheels off the ground. It's hard to argue with a multi millionaire I've learned, Lol! Now that I'm retired we're very good friends which is great after working for him for 35 years. Set a little something aside every paycheck by the way boys. If you can't still do that with the new truck you're looking at you're borrowing from your future.
I just towed a 37 foot imagine travel trailer last week with my 2015 2500 6.7 Mega, and it handled it just fine. And it has 50 less ft.lbs. torque than the new ones. And, I tow 5th wheel trailers with it often, prefer them over bumper pull trailers. Heaviest actual trailer weight I have pulled with mine was right at 14K on a 16K GVWR solitude. And, I do this along with carrying 500 extra pounds of fuel and auxiliary fuel tank and a couple hundred pounds of tools and toolbox. So long as you aren't exceeding the axle/tire weight ratings you're good to go.

You will have clearance for the tailgate if you buy the weigh-safe weight distribution hitch. Plus it shows tongue weight.
I had a 2018 ram 2500 Laramie mega with the hemi. Payload for that was 2800lbs. The only problem was that it the full mileage was terrible. I was only towing a 5k boat and gear setup. It’s 130 miles to the campsite and when I got down there I used more than 3/4 of a tank. Averaged 6-8mpg. I traded that in and got a 21 Big horn with the diesel and payload went down to 2200. I knew that going in. With the same setup I can make it to the destination with over 1/2 tank left. Average mpg was 15-18. The hemi was a dog.

Good job in explaining this subject. Diesel, 4x4 and Ram Box are very heavy. Just for comparison, my 2019 Ram 2500 Laramie, Hemi, 2wd standard bed has a payload capacity of 3248lbs. Tows like a beast with the 4:10 rear end.

Angelo, that is the exact configuration of my truck too. I bought gas specifically for that reason. I tow a 31’ RV and load the bed full and still come no where near payload capacity or towing capacity. 19,000 pounds towing is more than I will ever tow.
@HalfShell about 9-10 mpg, and that is through Southern California hills. I get 10-11 around town without a camper behind me so not much difference.

I bought a very well maintained 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab with the 5.9 Cummins diesel . The 2 previous owners both had a 35' fifth wheel camper with slide outs . My truck does have extra air bag suspension added to the rear of the truck . I spoke with both previous owners and they said the truck pulled and handled everything fantastic ! It came with the towing package , gooseneck , bumper and B&W Fifth wheel hitches and the extra air bag rear and electric brake controller ! The 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 Mega Cab looks like new and has been maintained excellently !! I'm an old mechanic and checked out the truck thoroughly , which is in outstanding condition !! I looked at allot of other trucks before I bought this one at a really good deal . I guess I got lucky . I have pulled a 30' gooseneck trailer with a D4 dozer on the trailer and it pulled and handled it great all the way . It's just a 3/4 ton truck .
I love my ram 2017 2500 diesel...it's a towing demon..plain Jane tradesman but still is a lot of useful and comfortable features...best towing machine I ever had ....love the exhaust brake
Have a 2021 Cummins after leaving the 6.4 Hemi. There is zero comparison between the gasser and the diesel.

I have a 2003 crewcab dually 4wd with a Cummins 8 ft bed and the same sized camper . My Ram pulls it beautifully.
I recently towed this exact same TT about 100 miles back from the dealer with my 2018 2500 6.4 Hemi 4.10's. My tow capacity is about 15,600 and my payload is 2973lbs. I weighed it at the CAT scales and will 3 of us in it the truck was 8000lbs (3 of us totaled 700lbs). The 3250BH weighed in at 9300lbs but dealer left the fresh water tank full (52 gallons) and we did not know this. Tongue weight was 1100lbs. Gross weight was 17,260lbs. with 4960 on the rear axle and 4140 on the front. My GAWR (rear) is 6500lbs so I was way under. My truck axles weighed exactly 9100lbs with the 3 of us in it and a full tank of fuel (remember, this is with the 1100lbs tongue weight added). We were using an Equalizer WDH. Truck towed it great and could barely tell it was back there. If this had been a Cummins I would have been right at max. The Cummins weighs bout 800-900lbs more than the 6.4 Hemi, which would have put me at about 9900-10,000 so would have really been cutting it close in terms of being legal.
I have a trailer similar size and have gone to the scales and iam underweight with my 2018 2500 Cummins. It's all about how you put weight on the trailer. Don't put the weight up front but on the rear. Don't load the truck up with stuff that's what the rv is for
I towed the exact same trailer with a 2017 ram 2500 from arkansas to North Carolina with no issues with all my stuff

Thank you for the video. I towed a 7500Lb TT with my 1500 RAM and it towed it but it was not stable. Payload is more important than towing capacity. By the time you add passengers, bed cargo, WDH, Hitch weight, batteries, propane, bikes, etc. you are over the limit of most 1/2ton trucks (>>1800Lbs) . So i decided to buy a HD truck, more specifically a 3500 RAM. Now I feel safer towing this TT and I can put a lot of cargo in the truck bed with no worries.

I've always enjoyed your informative videos. More RV owners need to realize they simply don't have enough truck. I can't remember how many time's I've seen a 3/4 ton pulling a full profile fifth wheel way overloaded. Headlight's pointing toward the sky and a truck that's unlevel is dangerous.
All those nice options really decrease your payload too, compare a Tradesman to a Bighorn to a Laramie and you can see the difference.

I have a 3250BH and a 2020 2500 Tadesman Cummins, the jack issue is easily fixed with a socket, a drill and a tap, just rotate the jack head, and drill and tap it for the new bolt location, and the tail gate clears. Also the higher the trim the lower the towing capacity, my Tradesman is rated to tow 19,260, vs that Laramie is what 14k ish?

So if you had the Hemi you get more payload ? I have a 2022 Laramie Midnight edition with the 410 gears and a 6.4 L with a payload of 2995 on the sticker on the door jam. Now I'm glad I got the Hemi. Thanks for the good videos.

This is a concern for the safety and insurance!
I looked at Chevy, Ram and Ford for the best towing options.
Looked at only diesel for all of them as we live out west and have big mountains. This is our fourth diesel truck!
We had all F350’s before
and one was 4x4.
We don’t full time so 90% of the time it’s for driving while not towing!
The F350 has a very stiff suspension and we wanted a little better ride this time. We looked at dually’s too. Ridiculous to take to the store.
We had. Giant heavy toy hauler in the past and don’t want anything that big again as we are older now. So we went with the F250 super duty crew cab 4x4 diesel.
The super duty is between the F250 & F350. With payload of 3950 and max 20000 towing. The next closest was the Chevy HD then the Ram heavy duty!
Cummins is good and so is dirty max but the power stroke is king in
2021. 🤔
Add air bags take off the 2500 emblems your good to go. Payload ratings are to avoid commercial costs & requirements for some states avoided by staying below 10k GVWR.
I never pay any attention to dry hitch weight as it’s practically speaking irrelevant. I use WDH & loading to set tongue weight / percentage according to CAT scale results. I transport TTs commercially from plants to dealerships 800k miles. This is the ideal way to set it up for maximum stability & safety.

We almost got blown off the road not too long ago towing our 33’ 7200 lb (GVW, I weighed it on that trip) trailer with our Ram 1500. We were right at the max of what it could “technically” tow on paper. We had been contemplating moving to a newer 1/2 ton or larger 3/4 ton to be safer - that moment sealed the deal to go 3/4 ton. We are very fortunate that on that busy highway, there was no one right beside me, and because of the wind, I was going slower anyway. However, the diesel in the Ram 2500 is puzzling for towing. It’s interesting that everyone I’ve talked to about my new truck were a bit surprised I didn’t go with a diesel…and then I mention the payload. My Big Horn (with Rambox) has 2803lb payload. A similar equipped diesel without Rambox or spray-in bedliner was at 2100 lbs. Regardless, either by the lack of power in the 6.4 (compared to the diesel) or by lack of payload (with the diesel), you’re likely going to be limited to the 10-11k range regardless of what the brochure shows. And I’d think even with a “smaller” 5th wheel would be a struggle - just get the 1 ton if that’s what you want. Great review again BTW…you’re providing some solid advice!

On my camper the tongue weight with battery and tank and nothing else loaded in the trailer my tongue weight was spot on what manufactures said it was supposed to be(which everyone said didn’t include battery and tank)

Excellent job! Just because it has a Diesel engine and can pull it down the road, can it stop it or safety control the load?
While my 2019 Silverado 2500 HD with 6.0 gas would definitely know that that trailer was back there (all trucks would know) and my gas mileage would be around 7-8 mpg, it would be able to tow it safety since the payload is almost 3,000 pounds.

I fully intend to buy a 2500 with the Cummins. My camper is slightly less weight than the one you reviewed. The coil sprung rear suspension of the 2500 rides so much better than the leaf sprung rear of the 1 ton. It only makes sense you lose payload capacity. However, they have the exact same HD rear axles. So I’ll pick up payload with airbags as the only difference between the 2500 and 3500 rear suspensions is coils vs leafs.
The Ram has the only “real” 3/4 ton truck as is has a rear suspension that is heavier duty than its 1/2 ton counterpart, but not as harsh as a 1 ton. Ford and GM rear suspensions are 98% identical between the 3/4 and 1 tons.

I absolutely love the coil spring rear axle on the Ram 2500. On washboard gravel roads it drives straight as a arrow.
Also the people on here comparing a Ram 2500 Cummins to a F150, is laughable, I can't tell how many times I've passed those trucks on hills, my cruise control set at 60, them pulling nothing and me pulling 30' TT.

I have a quick question for you though, Im starting a new Junk Removal Business in the Dallas Texas area and Im in the market for a Good pre-owned truck. I have the budget of 50K that the bank is willing to give me and Ive taken a liking to the Dodge Rams. Would a Dodge Ram 3500 ....Hemi... work for pulling a dump trailer in Texas (flat land) ? I believe the trailer is 16ft 5,000 lbs and can hold 10,000k. Im just trying not to make the wrong choice so your professional opinion would be very appreciated. I hope I haven't intruded and inconvenienced you to much, thank you for your time and have a blessed day.

Good info Bro. One truck many folks overlook is the 3500 single wheel.
How is better than 2500?
3500 single wheel give you at more payload and towing capacity. Then a 3500 dual wheel give you even more. But the 3500 single wheel will give you the same fuel mileage then the 2500 and give you more towing and payload capacity. The 3500 single wheel give you more with 4 wheels. Many folks don’t realize the difference. But you get more truck for the same. Only side effects is the 2500 will be a little smoother ride.
Think for many folks a well designed gasser 2500 will give you better payload and still allow for towing capacity for this kind of trailer. I think for just this trailer, you would do better with a gasser for payload. Might like a F250 7.3 with this trailer even though I am a RAM guy on last two trucks.
I went with the 2020 Ram 2500 gasser for some of these reasons. Payload is still 2900 pounds and has plenty of grunt with the 4.10 gears. Coupled with a Weigh Safe hitch I’m all good.
I bought an extended receiver hitch to give me clearance to lower my tailgate with the trailer connected.
Be careful, that can reduce your hitch capacity
I have a 2014 2500, and tow a fifth wheel with an Andersen hitch and it tows fine.
This is why I went with a 2020 2500 6.4 Hemi Tradesmen. My payload is over 3,100lbs! My 1200lbs of hitch weight doesn’t even squat the truck.

2013 ram 2500 6.7, my fifth wheel hardly squats my truck. I have bags for added support. I know I am around my payload capacity but I would rather tow a 34’ trailer with a fiver vs bumper pull. My personal preference anyway.
So when the 6th gen ram comes in with more equipment eventually, and weighs more, but has to stay under the 10000 GVWR for California and other states regulations it will be good for...what...groceries?

Cummins engine is a lot heavier than gas also. Def fluid and dpf filter adds weight

I tow my '20 grand design reflection315 rlts (38 feet) with my 19' Ram 2500 big horn (Cummins) . Towed it up I70 up to Heaston PA last weekend. 70 mph the whole way. Tows great.

@@kevincameron8437 I had a 2016 6.4 liter and although she could pull the camper here on flat land, it would not have done well in those mountains. The Hemi was thirsty. The Cummins got 11 mpg towing about 11k lbs
@@kevincameron8437 we love this camper. I have had several over the years. I traded my 5th wheel for this camper. I hated not having use of my pick up bed. The hitch was a pain to put in and out. Grand design puts out a great product.

An 8,000 lb loaded up 30 foot travel trailer had my 2018 Ram 2500 4x4 Cummins over loaded by 50 lbs after tools cargo, generator, Blackstone, etcetera. The truck does the job just fine but but I had to make some sacrifices in order to stay legal. They sell this trailer as half ton towable which is insane. Kicking myself for not buying a 3500 but I'm making it all work.
I have Cramped Hand Towed enough over the years 🤣
That is why I just bought a Ram 3500 crew cab longbox dually.
It will tow our small current trailer like nothing for now. And I won't have to do as much math later when we Upsize down the road. 👍😝

Those new f150s can have up to 2800 pound payloads with 13k towing 🤷🏻♂️

I should have got an f150. Has 500 lbs more payload than my '19 ram 2500 cummins. Yes, my truck weighs 2500 lbs more than an f150. Yes, I have an exhaust brake. Yes my frame is bigger, my brakes are bigger, I have more torque, a bigger tranny and much larger axles. But that F150 can tow more and haul more than my truck... according to the stickers.
@@rjd2516able I have an 18 f150 with the 3.5 EB and I really have no complaints with it at all. I tow a 16ft trailer with a cord of wood loaded on it, probably 7,000lbs total, and it handles it just fine. Rated for 10,700 pounds of towing, but I still wouldn’t put a 30ft 5th wheel behind it
Great video on the limitations of a 2500 . Understand the 10000 lb limit is not for RV purposes,it’s for ppl who use the truck for commercial purposes. At 10001 GVWR they have to comply with DOT commercial regulations and
the FMCSA. .You can no longer buy a 2500 Duramax and sneak under it... it’s common knowledge that the 10000 number is artificially low and you can safely load the 2500HDs to the limit of the axles and have zero issues . There is usually 1500-2000 lbs difference between the axle ratings and GVWR.. Loading to the axle limit is DOT compliant as long as you’ve registered it for that weight,and maintained the tires and rim ratings for that weight.
GM said to heck with that and dropped the 10k cutoff. Their 2500 diesels have very impressive payload since ditching the 10k.

That stupid sticker has caused so many people, so many sleepless nights. I hope that GM has led the way for all the manufacturers to ban together and get the rule book changed. I want to know what my truck can actually haul. Not some arbitrary number thought up 35 years ago.
I was waiting for you to mention GAS engine, finally at the end you mentioned it! Gas is the way to go if your going 250/2500 since your payload goes way up. OR go 350/3500 diesel. Don’t do the 250/2500 diesel due to the heavy engine the payload goes way way down. I have an 06 2500 6.0 gas towing a grand design 3170bh and she does amazing. Yea she eats the gas but it’s paid off and I only have 50k miles on the truck
I will keep my 2500 and my exhaust break. Seen way too many gassers towing trailers in the mountains have to pull over because their brakes were over heating and giving out
Only difference on 3500 vs a 2500 is the extra stiff leaf pack. Put a set of adjustable bags with compressor and you now have the same stiff rear end .
I have a gasser and never had to pull over for overheating breaks. Just have to set it to a lower gear and cruise downhill.
Unless you're hauling commercial where the manufacturers data plate is what the DOT is going to rate what you can haul legally which will effect hauling a gooseneck or 5th wheel trailer greatly since the few hundred pounds a 3500 allows will greatly effect that . If you're not hauling commercial then simply putting a set if adjustable air bags will give you the same towing ability as a 3500 with a 2500 , because the only difference between the two trucks is an extra leaf in the pack the rest of the drive train and frame are identical ... If you're yammering about capacity then I'd guess you haul near the trucks limit and for that unless you live in fiat country a gasser is going to suck balls . When we tow our rigs out to go Four wheeling we all have about 10k in tow between Jeeps and trailer . When the guys in the group who have gassers hit the mountains they are in the slow truck lanes 4 ways in with the fully loaded semi trucks putting along ...lol...the diesel trucks can still easily exceed the speed limit . If you are only towing on fiat ground or Once in a while then getting a gasser is a great idea since they can be had much cheaper as they don't hold value even with low miles when used ...lol...but buying a gasser for the reasons you list isn't well thought out.
@@joelm7211 It's nice to be able to go down hill at say 45-60 and have the exhaust brake hold you at that speed vs having to go super slow . Plus at those faster speeds that an exhaust brake will let you hold you're not using the service brakes so in an emergency they're cool and ready to for a quick stop . You probably go down hill just as slow as you went up it...like 35 mph 4 ways on. Like you're hauling 80k in a derated company class 8 . Nothing wrong with gas it's just an interior tow rig compared to a turbo diesel and trying to use payload ad a way to equalize doesn't do it .
I've always been told that factory payload ratings included a 150lb person in the numbers. If that is the case, when you calculated the passengers in the estimated payload section, did you account for that?
I did not but I believe for HD’s they use 2 150# passengers. I like the added buffer so when people roll over cat scale, they can some extra cushion 👍🏾
The stated payload Cpacity correct me if i am wrong includes the three hundred pounds for the driver.

That Ram Is Nice JB but the Numbers are not impressive my F-150 has a payload of 1750 pounds, thats only 200 pounds less than that Ram and for the price I would deffenitely opt for a gas truck. Great Video my friend

If you’re going to get a fifth wheel, a RAM 3500 is the way to go but the air suspension is great on either. Thanks 👍🏾
JC..I do not usually comment but I wanted to here. I tow with a 2018 lariat f350 srw short bed. We full time in our rv and all in it is 16k. When looking at the 250 and 350 there is almost no price difference but you get much more truck on the 350 or 3500 whatever brand you choose. I noticed no difference in the ride quality unloaded between the3/4 ton and 1 ton Ford. I did not do the long bed or dually because of parking and maneuvering through cities with my job. In my opinion, your money will be better spent on the 1 ton truck as you get considerably more bang for about the same bucks. Good luck
The ram 2500 rides WAY better than the 3500 empty. No comparison. That said, a heavy 5th wheel should be pulled with a 3500 due to the stiffer rear suspension. I pull a 5er with a pin weight of only 1380 lbs with a 2500. Works great. If the pin was say 2000 or more, I would be dreaming of that stiffer suspension.

Yes and using 12% hitch weight is most likely overkill so it would be assumed in that number
My rule of thumb is take the 10-15% of the trailer weight for tongue weight. Now my travel travel trailer weighs ~5000lbs dry, but maxes out at ~7500lbs. Take the MAX weight and MAX % to find out what your tongue weight will be. So 15% of 7500. That will not limit you on what you can put in your camper and will allow you to purchase the right truck. Now I sadly bought my truck 2+ years before I got my travel trailer so I am at the ragged edge of my payload and have to limit what I put in my camper and truck. Sucks as I cannot afford a new truck for at least 3-5 years.
Moral of the story ALWAYS compute for MAX numbers. MAX camper weight, MAX tongue %, what family will weigh at the maximum of the life of the truck. Right now I will have to cut stuff out when my kids grow in the next few years for trips. For that camper you’ll need a gasser 4.10 gear 2500 to properly and safely tow.
I hear ya...about using higher percentages for calculating tongue weight...my CAT weight for my 31 ft forest river is 8180 lbs. My tongue weight is 1150 lbs ( weighed with a tongue weight scale), which comes up to roughly 14 %. I want and welcome the higher tongue weight!!!The trailers GVWR is 8596.
Albeit I'm mostly full timing it for work, so I probably pack heavier than most. And my layout is a front kitchen, which puts most of my weight in front of my axles. Before I bought a 3/4 ton GMC I would rent 3/4 tons to move my trailer when needed. Those rentals always had the payload capacity because they where basically trimmed down versions of f250 or Cummings 2500. However when buying, I knew I was gonna get Diesel, loaded to the gills. Watched alot of your videos and others before I pulled the trigger. Even though I have 3200 lbs of payload, I still wish I would have bought a 3500. Covid kinna screwed that up. Couldn't find one with the color and options I wanted. Still I can't tell you how many times I've heard " You can pull whatever you want with that "🙄

2017 ram 2500, air ride in the rear, full delete with trans tuning and switch on the fly including tow tunes, pulled my buddies 38 foot 5th wheel like it was nothing. If it hooks up it’s getting towed

There are a few caveats in this and the heading is slightly misleading. This was based on the values of a diesel Laramie, which, I will concede has bad numbers. If you change the trim level of the truck to a Tradesman there should be ample capability. The bottom line here is. Yes a 2500 will tow that trailer, but... If you want luxuries, you are not towing as much. If you really want to tow get a lower trim (less luxurious) truck, or if you want the luxuries and want to tow, get a bigger truck such as a 3500 or bigger. Obviously, you pay more if you do that.
To come back to the heading of the video. Yes, a 2021 RAM 2500 can tow an Imaging 3250BH. But only if spec'd out appropriately.
BTW. counter intuitively, the gas engines are better for towing numbers than diesel engines, but the diesels are better for towing performance and consumption. If you want to tow more, get gas, if you want to tow faster (up hills) with better consumption, get diesel.
I have a '21 2500 with the 6.4 gas engine and 4.10s w/o ramboxes. My truck is rated to tow just under 17,000lbs with just about 2900 lbs payload. Don't sleep on the 6.4 hemi... lol

I tow a Grand Design 337RLS Fifth Wheel. Went with Ram 3500, 6.4l Hemi, 4:10 rear. My biggest concern was Payload. The 1 ton gives me 4400#. Had a Cummins 2500 but Payload was too low.

@@JB_WhoWork I looked long and hard to find. Mine is a low mileage 2018. It seems to tow 14,000# GVW trailer just fine. It's not a Cummins, but just get used to the higher rpm when climbing steep hills. For me, the EPA has killed the Diesel.
Does yours have 4.10 rear? I guess your next truck you will have to order so you can take advantage of that 8 speed!

He didn't suggest that; he actually suggested something FAR WORSE, at least for the equations. He implied putting the kids in the truck, which detracts from payload capacity.. With that truck, he's got less payload capacity than most Ford F-150's do, even the ones with crew cabs. It's possible to configure some F-150's with about 3000 pounds of payload capacity, although most have 2100 to 2200 ..
I tow my 46 foot 13,000 pound fifth wheel with a ram 2500 Cummins just fine.
i persoanlly have a 2016 ram 2500 cummins and am able to tow a 16,500lbs 5th-wheel thats 42 feet long perfectly fine

According to Rams website, towing capacity of that truck is either 14,110 or 16,610 both with 2980 payload. Owning a 3250BH a gas truck would be a struggle at best towing a loaded TT this size and weight, now a diesel and lower trim is a whole different ball game
The actual payload is going to differ for stock trucks since those numbers are shown for trucks with no options. Gas truck can tow pretty good, it won’t do it better than a diesel but it will keep you within the GVWR if you have a lot of gear 👍🏾

I got 2 weldor buddys that went with ram dually trucks . They both say the same thing " god i hope this tranny gets us home ". I went with a duramax and alison tranny . I didn't want to be " that guy " ! Went chrysler once . Wont make that mistake again ! Great video brother ! Be safe !

Left me n a cpl helpers sittin n a motel fr 5 days . No tranny issues lol , but DAM ! Everything is plastic . Loader operator on a job took the right rear quarter out at about 1 year into it . Its ben back to a dealer like 5 times now n a year n a half . My 77 3/4 ton chevy just keeps goin ! Its ben a plow truck fr 17 years now . Was a weldin truck fr 4 , 5 years . 4 wheelin . Has over 500,000 miles on it ! Stock posi up front . Old shit was built to last ! All this plastic is a joke ! Be safe brother ! Have a good eve !

2 doors on an rv is just a waste of space!! There are sooooo many other advantages to not having 2 doors! Like for example a Full length couch or even a couple of recliners! Also an entertainment center!!! Just more comfort!!
Some RV designs including tow trailers, with slides, can make it impossible to get to the master bedroom, bathroom or the fridge without opening the slides. Having a second door, many times, negates that issue. But then, I'm sure that you can fit that couch in that section of wall that didn't have that door. That door is about 2 inches thick and 30 inches wide ..
In this unit, it appears that the bathroom and master bedroom is accessible with the slides closed, but only from the front door, but the fridge appears to be inaccessible with the slides closed. Assuming you are a guy, if you are married, ask your wife what she thinks about using public restrooms; if not, and your mom is still available, ask her. If you stop somewhere along the way to pick up groceries, you'll discover why being able to access the fridge is important.

It seems like it would make way more sense to buy a trailer that fits your truck rather than a truck that fits your trailer. Most people own their trucks way longer than they own their trailers
I always went for overkill. More truck. Truck weighed 8800. Camper weighed 7500.
Look, I'm not an engineer so don't trust me. And I understand the content of the video. But the problem is that the 10 000 GVWR is not logical at all... I think they drop it down to 10 000 to give people the ability to tow heavy trailers (up to16000 pounds) without a CDL. Typically, a truck's GVWR is approximately 700 to 1000 pounds less than the total capacity of its axles. Let me give you two quick examples. My old sierra has 3950 front and 3950 rear = 7900 total axle capacity. Its GVWR is 900pounds less at 7000 pounds. The truck curb is 5500 so it has a 7000-5500 = 1500 payload. Second example: my friend's RAM3500 diesel has 6000 front and 7000 rear = 13000 pounds total axle capacity. Its GVWR is 700 pounds less at 12300pounds... Truck is about 8000 pounds making a 4000 pounds payload capacity. Again, I'm not an engineer but I assume those GVWR are calculated so that there is a bit of room. It's probably logical and safer not to max out both axles at the same time right? Now the truck in this video has 6000 front and 6040 rear for a total of 12040 pounds axle capacity. It's GVWR should be roughly 700-900 pounds less at 11000 - 11300... so the payload would be around 3000 - 3300 pounds. Which, by the way, would be the same as the GMs 2500 diesel with the same axle capacities. You can use another approach to do the maths knowing that the only difference between this truck in the video and my friends 3500 is the rear gross axle weight rating. It's 7000 for the 3500 instead of 6040 for this 2500. The rest is basically identical. So logically, the payload of this 2500 should also be 1000 pounds less than the 3500. Since the 3500's payload is 4000 pounds, this 2500 should be at 3000 pounds. So do the maths the way you want, and again, I'm not an engineer so don't trust me, but this truck is more a 11 000 GVWR / 3000 payload truck than anything else.
Questions... The RAM 2500 and 3500, the only difference is the suspension, right? Same axle, same brakes, everything, but coil vs springs? The rear gross axle weight rating for my 2500 is 6500#, but my payload is 2280#. So what does that mean? The rear axle can handle 6500# but the payload is less that half of that? How is that?
Yes and sometimes the rear axle is different on 1 tons including the ring gear.
Axle ratings and payload are two limits you have to stay within but keep in mind the rear unloaded is about 3300 pounds (or more) with fuel. You will most likely exceed payload before you exceed GAWR.

I am currently 10 weeks, 9 states, 15+ national and state parks, and 7,500 miles into a 12 week road trip with my ‘04.5 Ram 2500. I am towing a 2018 Arctic Wolf 265BH 5th wheel. My GVWR is 9000 lbs. max tow of 13,500 lbs With all of my holding tanks EMPTY, I weighed in at 9500 lbs. hooked up, and with a full tank of fuel on the truck, and 9400 lbs on the trailer axles. This trailer is marketed as 1/2 ton towable, which is complete BS. I have had semi trucks blow past me @ 15-20 mph faster than me and put me into a fishtail situation. Keep calm, engage trailer brake and feather the gas pedal... my point to this story?
1) RV salesmen will tell you that you can tow anything on the lot
2) Get more truck if you’re gonna be buying one anyways.
I’ll be selling this 31ft 5th wheel in a few weeks so that I can buy an Outdoors RV 24RKS travel trailer for the wife and I to travel with. My trusty ole ‘04.5 is paid for, I’d rather have less trailer.
