Rangers keep saying this, but I'm watching my buddy chunk 1stars for 2/3 hp to open a fight in a single hit. Maybe something to be desired in AoE, but their single target is crazy
@@TheOnlyFalco Sustain is also super bad, Mage and Fighter have so many more abilities, if something is living longer than 15 seconds or whatever Ranger runs out of abilities while Mage and Fighter can keep pumping out other skills. Just look at a Ranger's hotbar vs Mage or Fighter, the difference is staggering.
@@TheOnlyFalco there not alot of caster mobs in the game atm daze will probaly play a huge roll debuff wise when there more spell casters especialy since tanks are typicaly weak to magic dmg when in plate so reducing the cast time by 25% allows for spell to be easier to interupt since larger time window aswell as drops the mobs DPS due to increase cast time. My biggest gripe with the ranger right now is charged scattershot is very inconsistent on how it hits enemies and is only usable currently in certain situations where the ground is level. The moment you get in hilly terrain, charge scattershot is worthless.
Really? My biggest gripe with charged scattershot is that it goes through walls. I do my best to avoid it but I've definitely wiped a group or 2 by accidentally pulling 3 firestarters through a wall in steelbloom...
@@krayte5120 yea thats also annoying that the ranger skills dont have any collision with building walls haha, but i think thats just polish on the archetype honestly thatll be changed
A lot of “damage” stuff has to do with gear. So really hard to say if a class needs a buff if you are walking around in shit gear that’s all broken and needs repair.
STRONG AGREE. Headshot should be brought closer to the front of the rotation, rather than Snipe. To get the best out of Snipe, you NEED the target to be bleeding already to trigger Haemorrhaging. Although sure, at range, Snipe is currently good for high crit high damage STARTING shot, but I feel like that should happen with Headshot. That way Snipe can be something more like "Called Shot", and instead, gets it's increased damage from the target bleeding "Snipe Shot: Exploit Weakness", "Snipe Shot: Foot" when the target has been snared so the target is rooted for a second or so.
snipe is a good opener and i dont have a problem with it, the single target damage of the archer is good I just wish scatter shot, air strike, and raining death could feel more impactful
Ok so just some constructive criticism: you only talked about the feel of longbow vs shortbow, not how they impact the damage rotation and skill choice in given situations. Lets break down the crit chance thing: Longbow with heartseeker and bullseye: you do an auto attack chain, get both buffs. Next 2 skills have 25% crit chance from bullseye and 20% crit damage from heartseeker. you have 25% base crit chance to begin with. Snipe has 30% crit chance on distant target, Mark of the tiger is giving another 25% crit chance... you have 100% crit chance. Assuming you take every crit damage node in the longbow tree, and have hunt of the tiger, your 150% crit damage is now 200%... snipe gives attack speed and reduces enemy mitigation, so your second snipe is going do more than just slap. Auto attack chain into mark of the tiger > snipe > lightning reload > snipe is your once a minute burst chain that hits so incredibly hard that you're guildies will be wondering where the lvl 29*** just went. Shortbow, same premise different more involved rotation. Auto attack chain triggers bullseye and arrowstorm and bleed: vines to hemorrage, mark of the raven > barrage > lightning reload > barrage > 3rd barrage (since 2 barrages against hemorrage targets full resets barrage) your fitting 1.5 barrages inside arrowstorm, and all 3 barrages within mark of the raven. Looking at the bursts, the non burst rotations should make perfect sense. Level 1 ranger passive - finishers reduce cooldown of scatter shot and barrage by 3s each. With a longbow, you benefit from bullseye for next 2 abilities after auto attack chain - scatter shot is always up after an auto attack chain, so charge scatter shot + any highest damage skill off cooldown, so snipe, then auto attack > scatter shot > thundering shot then auto attack chain > scatter shot > headshot > etc. etc. and shortbow is much the same. Auto attack chain for arrowstorm > barrage > plus 1, repeat. Longbow vs shortbow literally determines whether you use scatter shot or barrage after the auto attack chain and that is baked into the level 1 passive of the ranger. Your bow isnt just your playstyle, it's your entire identity. After testing this with guildies we're already the class that can do the most damage when in the most skilled players hands. Please do not buff the ranger, make the longbow or shortbow passives earlier on the tree so people can actually play with their class identity rather than discover the classes actual potential after level 20.
@@TheOnlyFalco That's true, it's just so integral to the ranger because once we fully dive into it, it becomes apparent that the Ranger's identity is so incredibly baked into their weapon that I don't think we should talk about one without the other. Barrage by itself is weak, Snipe by itself is weak, but arrowstorm or heartseeker makes them so incredibly strong that I'm scared to be talking about ranger needing buffs...
Ranger is bar far the weakest archetype in the game right now. Vinefield is the only good ability we have. Most of the abilities while in theory sound good they are very under tuned. Unless you're able to ambush (the rare times camouflage decides work) you won't win duels against any class if the player is worth their salt. Not to mention the headshot 4 second reduction on CD when you hit a marked target doesn't work, the silence from daze into thundering shot doesn't work, like I mentioned before camouflage is a mess, scatter shot interaction with the environment feels bad. The regeneration provided from the passive ability we get is pretty bad, thorns feels underwhelming since we have many ways of applying bleed. Rangers are in a really bad spot compared to other archetypes imo. Mage is currently a much better version than Ranger specially considering the amount of mobs with high armor values.
this is well said i agree with this lol, I hate that people keep trying to justify the bad damage with "it has good utility though" its like no i want to feel like a true DPS
i think the ranger is just supposed to be a support and not a high DPS arch type :) aint nothing wrong with that. advantage is being necessary for group content where as regular DPS like fighter/mage can be interchanged. once you're over like lvl 15 TORNS, REGEN, are like so so so helpful on tanks :)
i get what you are saying haha the utility that comes with being a ranger is sick, I just wish we had a little more PVE damage haha, I think the ranger is amazing in PVP though, rangers are a menace in PVP with all the slows and roots and single target damage they go crazy haha :)
I feel like the hunts and a few of the marks are just a bit useless, yeah. They feel like they shouldn’t be in the kit at all. Would rather they trade them for more movement or camo-based abilities.
2-hander sword always. Top left of 2 hander tree gives a giant attack speed buff after completing a finisher, and if they ever fix it to where your offhand weapon applies buffs of its tree while using main hand weapon it would enter absolutely broken territory. Even without that buff, shortbow has a ton of attack speed as is, and with a longbow you want the absolute biggest numbers possible per ability use. charging snipe 1 second faster but only doing 1k damage every 22 seconds vs 1.3k every 23 seconds is a very obvious choice, same mentality applies to all the other skills in a pvp situation. You need to make sure the enemies dead before you run out of abilities
I need to look at the shortbow stats vs the longbow because when I got a good shortbow drop the stats seemed low compared to longbow. I need to figure out how to compare the two.
