A popular device used for quotation and storytelling.
This began on the *chan imageboards, where quoting text places a Less or Greater than symbol in front of it, turning it green. This effect can also be done manually. Before long, this feature was put to innovative use. When quoting another post, greentext is frequently used for summary, criticism, and ridicule. Its other major use is storytelling, in which a lengthy story is told through fragmentary statements in greentext.
Greentext became highly popular for both of these functions due to its convenience. When quoting a post, it is easier to summarize than to respond in full. When telling a story, stringing together sentence fragments is a grammatically easier alternative to prose composition (it also makes for lighter reading).
This feature has become so widespread that it is sometimes used outside of imageboards (eg UA-cam comments).

Honestly I truly expect humanity to do something like that if we found a rather peaceful galactic community.... we humans thrive on conflict....
Aliens: **Declares war on Humanity**
Humanity: "So you have chosen... Death."
It sounds like something humanity would do in regards to reactions after too much peace. We do thrive on conflict after all.
My father was a soldier for 36 years. Started as Infantry, transferred to intelligence after his first decade. Fought in the Falklands, served in both Iraq conflicts, as well as a bunch of others. You know what he says? The only people who get excited about war are those who have never seen its face.....
Those who have seen the elephant however, they don't get excited about war, because they have SEEN it, smelt it, heard it. They know its true face.
Still my favorite story, glad you did this one a while ago.
