Bo Burnham - "Can't Handle This" and Hecklers in Baltimore 12/3/15

SONG STARTS AT 4:45
This is from Bo's Make Happy Tour on December 3, 2015 in Baltimore, Maryland. It includes two hecklers one of whom Bo ended up ejecting from the show, and the entirety of Can't Handle This and his monologue before it. The heckler he ejected had been shouting out and being obnoxious throughout the entirety of the show so it was totally warranted! I hope you enjoy, the show was amazing and Bo was fantastic as usual! - Комедії
Bo: "Can I say my shiiit"
My brain: "New York"
Bo: "Baltimore"

This 100%
Same bro
OK SAME
so did he perform this twice?
yes
Just comparing this bit and to the netflix special you can see how the heckler through off Bo's groove. People need to understand that he is performing a memorized set and blurting out nonsense totally fucks up a comedians groove
The first performance, maybe, but the 50th, nah.. He can play about.
That's why some people do it. A lot of hecklers yell out the punchlines before the comedian gets to them, or if the joke mentions something like cancer they will yell out 'my sister died of cancer' to make the audience feel awkward about laughing at anymore jokes. Basically hecklers are cunts.
I feel for him when he first started but now he's got his own lights guy and security personnel and so on....he can handle one heckler. It's easier when you can throw them out, in front of everyone.
As a performer, you learn improv. It's one of those most basic techniques, and you need to be able to adapt to what's going on around you. The greatest do this well (and he does).
"I'm sorry but you've thrown off the Emperor's groove..."
The guy that got kicked out really screwed himself out of seeing one of the most beautiful pieces of art of our generation live.
This comment aged well.
@@aaaaaa-ou6fc are you trying to be sarcastic?
@@imkool51391 not at all. The comment aged well because now, it's even more brutal to have been kicked out right before seeing Bo perform this live. With his newest special, Inside, I'd argue that Bo officially established himself as one of the greatest artists alive today.
@@aaaaaa-ou6fc agreed loved his new special and this special as well. Sucks for that guy that got kicked out he must be crying still to this day.
@@JohnLennon__ I very much doubt it - it sounds like he wouldn't know Art if it kicked him out of it's own show....
Some people just have no soul. Not in the biblical sense, of course, but in the emotional sense.
the “can i say my shit” hits harder when nobody’s letting him say his shit
It’s ‘sing’
Nah
@@aps-pictures9335 it's not google the lyrics
He tried
"Can't handle this but every time it gets sad the bass gets boosted"
Lmaoooo
spoot yeah honestly. It ruined the most important part
Its the recording. The low hertz frequenties are distorted thru the microphone. Thats why you here a sound when the bass hits when you replay it. irl or with a good microphone you wouldnt hear it.
I know
This comment is so fucking funny
people stop heckling Bo dammit. you are making him very uncomfortable. he wants to continue his show with out being interrupted.
It's not exclusive to him, everyone gets heckled, and way worse than what Bo gets
Paul Thoresen I know that. but most of it are his fans not just haters. and they are trying to get attention from him or see his reaction. he also doesn't do well with confrontation and improvised burns like other comedian.
Calic Tolentino Again he's not unique. I can't think of one comedian that doesn't have some form of anxiety or depression or lived through some kind of discrimination. Bo has the softest comedy shows I have ever seen, he will be ok
+Paul Thoresen that but also he treats it like theather. and as a fellow actor i can understand why he hates it. its like your in middle of a play you worked for and someone keeps yelling. its obnoxios and rude. Im not saying it unique to him but shouldnt we stop being assholes to performer who are doing their job?
Calic Tolentino I'm not sure how many times I have said it, but let me say it one more time, I DON'T LIKE HECKLERS. Every comic treats it like theater, it's a theatrical art, they just have different content, every comic gets it
"I hope you're happy."
Only bo can take a song about Pringles and burritos and still manage to make me cry
THat is not what the song is about at all but i get what you mean.
it made you cry because it's NOT about those things.
@@pocus2684 no they do not
@@loke3684 it does to some proportion
@@toidy3186 bo Burnham himself said in an interview that they dont mean anything. they are jokes.
Person in crowd: "I think I can"
Bo: "You think you can. I know you cant"
That was actually perfect 🤣
i love how at like 5:55 you start talking to the person next to you about how you could probably fit your hands in a pringle can, and almost on cue Bo says "you think you can, i know you can't"
I think he heard them 😂
Why would someone heckle minutes before the most important part of the show? His comedy shows end on an oddly metaphorical and introspective piece that is funny as well as expressing his anxieties and his unhappiness and it gives his silly comedy show a very deep and personal meaning, and to interupt that momentum is disrespectful, rude, and inconsiderate to those watching and Bo. Heckling is part of a live show, and in some instances can make a show even better, but damn thats just cruel.
Xanderqwerty123 maybe they didn’t know the serious part was coming
@MageBurger that one was so perfect, that i thought it was planted
The heckling was inserted by Bo- theyre paid actors to get the audience to relate and understand why he "cant handle" it so he doesnt just look like a rich whiney bitchboy up there complaining about his adoring fans. (Nah thats totally made up but it could be a thing, when you think about it, no?)
Leviathandk it wasn’t! i was at that show too. he expressed frustration at the hecklers in some moments that didn’t make it into the final special
@@allykayyy2683 Yeah but that's really only a thing in like magic shows, con men pretending to be psychic mediums, and shit like that. There are always plants in the audiences of those shows, but I don't think that's a normal occurrence for a standup comedy show (like not at all, lol).
"social media is the market's response to a generation who demanded an audience..." I have not heard a better analysis than this.
actually its "Social media - it's just the market's answer to a generation that demanded to perform, so the market said, here - perform. Perform everything to each other, all the time, for no reason."
@@Miguel_Molina yah but it’s wrong - it’s not about wanting to perform - it’s about wanting to mean something and be remembered
@@aps-pictures9335
Sorry but it's impossible for something like that to be wrong.
@@Bollibompa lol how do you figure that out?
@@aps-pictures9335
Because it is based on opinion when analyzing such an extremely complex system. The only way to epistemologically decide truth in that case is for you to look at the arguments and weigh them against each other for yourself. You think one thing, I think another and Bo yet another - nobody is wrong and nobody is right.
Thank you Baltimore, good night. I hope you're happy.
Jesus what a dark note to end on with that last sentence.
All of his shows are a series of hidden dark notes, honestly.

His comedy tour was called "Make Happy" and after he performed his last show he posted "Made Happy" I didn't think 2 words could mean so much to me. But those do. He's made so many people happy with his comedy.

HAHAHAHA. "What is it? You want me to sign something? Ok, well can you just keep that as a mutual interest that you share with all the people sitting quietly, enjoying the show?" Hahahaha.
What is it with Bo making me laugh and cry at the same time.
It's not Bo Burnham if you aren't simultaneously laughing and crying.

Ironic*
I watched an interview with him about this show. I was also really concerned about the parts about his mental health and not being happy but he said someone to the effect of "When I make jokes everyone laughs and no one things I'm racist or misogynistic but when I make jokes about being sad or depressed everyone says 'that's him, the real him' but I'm playing a character, it's a performance, it's theater. There is obviously truth to that with performance, but, like the funny parts, it's exaggerated for the show." Just in case anyone was worried, outside of performing he seems very well. I think it's genius how he performs.
Omg thats so calming to know
God this makes me feel so much better for him. I saw someone comment under the What special that “it’s like there was 12 people on stage” and now I feel silly that I never understood how much he exaggerated the depression/anxiety for his shows. I mean, yes his anxiety is a huge issue and is the reason why he hasn’t made anymore standup, but I’m glad it’s not as heavy as he makes it feel when he plays live.

The hard part is I can never tell when he is acting.
Shoutout to Meg for being able to fit her hand in a pringles can
short people stuff 😂
It should seriously be illegal for someone to be this talented.
I mean, no it shouldn't, but, you know.
TrackpadProductions is
it is why you think he does not perform anymore.
This crowd was SO lively and ready to laugh, it makes it hit that much more when they get all quiet at the seriousness of the end
lol, why does the burrito sound like a metaphor for his career... "you should of told me that the burrito was so big, i wouldnt of got half if it, if i knew".... "you should of told me that being so famous is so stressful"
Interesting theory, might be very true! Although it simply being a simple joke before the last part is also very possible. Fits surprisingly well, i'm fairly certain he touched this subject before
+Matthew Trunks not alot of things about his act is an accident or coincidence
+Heavenly Havoc as well if you look at the pringles as happiness he cant reach in and get it so he has to tilt the can and even though he gets a pringle his face gets covered with crumbs and he feels bad/sad. he wants a daughter whos little hands can get the pringles. i think hes saying he wants to settle down and have a family.
I think that you're right. 'I wouldn't have got the lettuce if I knew it wouldn't fit...'
Because it is.

@DeadPixel ily
I'm concerned for bo he's so ahead of his age and time and these introspective thoughts and the fact that he's just so intelligent are taking such a toll on his mental health
Not a thing. Being so intelligent doesn't make your mind deteriorate. Show business does. Mix that with his obvious insecurities. I doubt it will end well
+Timothy Danner having intelligence like Bo's means that he understands the world. for most people, this leads to unhappiness, because how could you be happy when you know how fucked up the world is?
Kalea Kogon do what I do. I understand how the world is. I just vow to make *my* world better. I surround myself with people who makes my life better. I can gain wisdom from and we just try to spread that love. I think you're talking about seeing the horror and feeling nothing can change. I think seeing how shit really is and just trying to make your world better and maybe seeing people gravitate to that can definitely keep happiness.
+Timothy Danner no you really don't know how the world works
+Timothy Danner knowing how the world really works is like having your parents killed in front of you. You realize that life isn't happy you dont deserve anything in the world
bo: pouring his heart out
person in the crowd: but like i want an autograph though
Despite the distortion this seemed like the best version. If he releases this song, I hope it's similar to this one!
yeah, sorry about the distortion! it's he'd to avoid when you're like right up front by the speakers
+Megan Canonica hard*
+Joshua Hembree He's releasing another special?
Looks like you're in luck! "Make Happy" released on Netflix this past week, it's good you should check it out!
I just watched it a few days ago! Really happy
I wish Bo the same amount of happiness that he's created for his fans.
Poor Bo. Please be ok.
He's fine, he stated it's just a character in an interview
+Khalifa B. I keep seeing people say this, and maybe it is just a character, but just because someone says their fine, doesn't mean that they are
Weasel 23367 true
People with depression do have a tendency of saying they're fine when they're not. Sometimes I watch some of his performances and it's like whoooaaaa, okay... He's got some dark moments going on.
Yeah I know that all too well
I've seen the netflix version of this performance so many times but it's nice to see it from the audience, hearing people laugh, have sympathy, say things like "i can fit my hand it a pringle can"
at this performance people didn't cheer after the "I should probably just shut up and do my job so here I go" and I think I like it better that way. Gives it the chance to be as surreal as it's meant to be
The camera at the end: *I Don't think that i can handle this right now*
lmao
It's hard to watch him continue his script after being interupted, it's impossible to feel genuine and natural after that.
"You can tell them anything if you just make it funny, make it rhyme. And if they still don't understand you, run it one more time." Holy fuck Bo. This shit has me rolling and tearing up. I hope you're better man. You are a misunderstood genius.
i be sad listening to this man sing about pringle cans and burritos
he pointed to himself when he said small mistakes :(
this video feels so intimate and special from the perspective of someone in the crowd and hearing the laughter and the chatter, i love it:)
"Good night Baltimore, I hope you're happy."
Honestly, I cannot compare the raw emotion I have felt when listening to this.
That's not even what he said. How do you mess up such a short quote lmao
@@emuccino go go go go farrrrrrr away. This is such a nice thing to say and you had to be mean. Go eat a meal, take a shower, go for a walk, and do some goddamn journaling. Stop being mean to others who are being vulnerable.

What a fucked up thing to say, Eric. Blaming someone for being emotional when being criticized for being inappropriately rude. Take responsibility.
damn it had some really dark undertones at the end there... coming from a skinny, shy, introverted white kid who always hid behind comedy like Bo...
"Watch as the skinny kid with a declining mental health, attempt to give you what he cant give himself"
"you dont even know the half of it" and his very last words sounded like he was holding back tears....
i swear i havent cried in like 8 years and this made me teary eyed
+Alex Lopez shh let him have his moment
KurtTheDweeb haha
this kid knows how to fucking talk about real shit and make you laugh and if you don't listen carefully enough or if you don't pay attention, you don't even realise that this is a sad individual talking about himself and also speaking to other sad individuals, all whilst trying to make people see the reality behind the comedy. He's a genius. His composing and lyricist abilities are amazing and he's both witty and honest. I've always loved watching him because of the stuff he's actually talking about. I don't know any other comedian who can make me rethink life, get emotional, and laugh until I can't breathe all at the same time. He has that perfect blend of saying some seriously depressing shit and then doing the comedic equivalent of "lol" at the end of it so people don't get too worried.
MrTopGunnar Sorry, but what exactly is Bo referring to when he states that he "attempts to give you what he can't give himself"? What is he attempting to give us? Does he mean a good time? I sound stupid probably, but I'm tired right now and not thinking straight.
Joshua Murphy You're probably right.
I think the burrito is a metaphor for his career. He wouldn't have done a joke if he knew it wouldn't "fit"
Pringles cans are society and the makers of Pringles cans are us, we collectively make it so no one can fit once they get older.
Or it's just about Pringles cans and those delicious chips.
"I think the burrito is a metaphor..." might be the best phrase I've ever seen. Thank You, Warflower.
+UMADInc Doesn't fit. However, if the chips are happiness...
Is that why we tip the Pringles can and consume them like a beverage or an otherwise absurdly unhealthy rate?
Or he was just creating comedy by stating that his biggest problems are getting his hand into a pringle can. Dont over analyze everything.
Laugh as he attempts to give you what he cant give himself:(
8:50 is really real. He's not making jokes, it seems like he actually feels that way. He's just expressing it in a comedic way. If you ever watch any interviews with Bo Burnham it seems he really does have a love/hate relationship with his career and the nature of it. I'm just glad that he is in tune with himself enough to realize that he wouldn't get gratification from just delivering shitty jokes that are guaranteed to get a laugh from a drunk audience; he actually wants to express himself while giving joy to other people in a down-to-earth way that people really relate to on a deeper level.
Bo actually just did an AMA on Reddit and said exactly this. He said this part is the most heartfelt performance he's ever given, because it reflects his actual feelings. He said that he is actually very anxious on stage and apparently prone to panic attacks, and the pressure of performance really takes a toll. By sharing it with his audience it helped just a little.
Rewatching this 2 months later just makes me relate to him even more. I'm sure the anxiety/bittersweet relief he felt when he began that song was pretty intense. Glad it's on Netflix now.
Remember though, he says that it's still a dramatified version of the truth. It's still his theatrical persona. Paraphrasing his words-"if i make jokes they understand that it's not true, but if i talk about more serious things they think it's all completely honest."
EVERYONE HAS A LOVE/HATE RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR JOB.
I love the quick bit where he imagines everyone is wondering how he's going to dig the show out of the sad hole he's led it into, and he just says "like this" and starts.
Who would go to a Bo Burnham show deliberately to heckle and ruin it?
Because some people get enjoyment out of ruining stuff for people
The tiny conversation about your pringle hands was so adorable haha 10/10
10:22 when Bo literally turns into God
Because Bo is surrounded by eyes hes truly a god of entertainment and its killing him
I’ve never been so happy to have a shitty version of something like this before, I never noticed the heartbeat in the original and having is so unmissable really adds to the scene
He sounds like he's on the verge of crying at the end when he said "I hope you're happy".
I’ve seen the Netflix version of this SO many times, but I’ve never seen this live. It just started playing on my tv UA-cam after the new inside outtakes.
Thank you for filming this beautiful masterpiece
I want Bo to know that if he doesn't want this anymore and if he hasn't wanted it in while he can give it up. if anything I'd be more than happy if make happy was the end. you've done more than enough, Bo. it's not giving up, it's making a decision for yourself. love you, and your words will stay with me for a very long time.
Apparently he is actually taking a break, he said at most an extended break and possibly just stopping completely
+IdigUheaps yeah I saw. I had written this before I knew he had the intention
He bak
And better than ever
It's weird. I seem to never have trouble enjoying a live show and keeping my mouth shut while the artists do their work.
Guess I'm built different.
Saw his show in Honolulu last night...I cried my eyes out afterwards. I hope he knows how special he is, how cherished.
ashley lindow ayy that's my state
He knows, but panic disorder and anxiety lie to you all the time.
Is it ok, that i'm crying?
I did
Naw I seriously did cry the first time I heard it, mainly because I understand so deeply exactly what he feels sometimes.
Make Happy is the first performance where I can legitimately say I laughed, I cried and was challenged on many levels.
Wow wtf just finding out how many other people cry from this- I was so embarrassed that this is was making mega ugly cry on repeat. Happy to know others get it, even though I still don’t
The fact that yall had a conversation about if your hand can fit in the pringles can simply made me pass away 😅😅😅
"Thank you, Baltimore. Good night. I hope you're happy." That makes me so emotional and I don't know why...
how does he manage to maintain a comedic vibe to his shows, AND still have those sad and deep undertones that make people wonder if he's okay.
Imagine being so in need of attention that you get yourself kicked out of a show right before the best part. Good job!
god damn the way the crowd goes from laughing and having fun to being dead silent
Thanks for this, your laughter and voice add to the performance.
hey thanks! i appreciate this comment
I know everyone got goosebumps in the audience, it went completely silent. What a show! The heckler sure missed out!
I live in Baltimore and I didn't see him, I'm so angry at myself! Thank you for recording his performance here!
"Remember that song two songs ago." lmfao
"you can tell them anything if you just make it funny make it rhyme, and if they still dont understand you then you run it one more time"
I love this guy nohomo he is a genius and I would hate if he does anything stupid to himself
Was I the only one that was really touched by the end of this performance? I got a little concerned for Bo.... :\
yes, absolutely. that whole last couple minutes was what some comics feel on the inside. not just comics, plenty of people in general can at least relate to a lot of those feelings. looking for an outlet and sometimes even that outlet isn't enough.
+MochiBlog モチブログ I think if it was just entertainment then there would be no point to make it sad. I think he really does think what he's saying here.
Yes, you were literally the only person who was touched by this.
Nicely done. It was cool both to see how hard he worked every night on the road to deal with audience bullshit, and also the small variations he made for each show as it evolved naturally.
8:50 is exactly how my anxiety and depression went with someone I loved but they also gave me depression and anxiety. This is real. It's just amazing how he can describe emotions so well in his songs not like anyone else. He is just the greatest 🥺
I watch the finale to Can’t Handle This almost 3x a week now.
I feel like Bo‘s message to us, his audience, had so many layers but the message I received through this song is that no one tells you everything that comes along with the dreams you set for yourself. When the cost of having what you want gets hidden, one day you end up getting what you asked for, but it’s nothing like you imagined.
I don’t know who else out there knows tho feeling, but it hit me, and honestly knowing that others like Bo feel it makes me feel more okay feeling it too. I’m so grateful he made this.
I know Bo feels alone, and I feel alone a lot, but I’m just glad I’m not the only one.

Thank you so much for this!!! Bo is so inspirational!!!!
wow i love bo burnham. hes truly an amazing comedian and person. Sad he stopped doing comedy but his name will forever live on
Bo can go from Pringle's cans to the complexities of mental health and how it can affect a performer and reminds us that behind every joke, every act, there is a person just like us who has their own struggles and that despite having a platform of sorts they may not be able to express themselves in the ways that matter the most in regards to their own well-being.
This introspective and insightful commentary laced with humor is precisely why I love Bo Burnham and his work. I think his line about giving the audience what he can't give himself is especially poignant. His comedic creativity and openness about the person he is and what he goes through is just beautiful to me.
Good night, I hope you're happy...jesus man. That's been on my mind for so long now, since I watched Make Happy a couple days ago. I can't get the phrase out of my head.
What makes it especially upsetting that dude couldn't chill out is that Bo was basically admitting to struggling with a sense of self worth and overall mental well-being.
"Remember the song two songs ago" We all know what hes talkin about.
Holy shit
No matter how weird the sound is
This song still brings me to tears
This video is so good... it shows a different, more human perspective of Bo side by side with the show. He's not a comedian, but a person performing comedy,,, if that makes sense. And you're so close, it's nice and intimate.
Thanks for recording it.
thanks for the attentive comment! :)
Now that's what I call good camera work
props for holding it horizontal
"The audience-performer relationship is a prison." Is that you, Ram Dass?
😂😂😂😂
10:40 and that when the camera said
"I don't think that I can handle this right now!"
I was so relieved it went hecklers THEN Can’t Handle This. If someone had dared mess with Bo AFTER this song, I would be found hunting them down Jay And Silent Bob style
My favorite part of this is when the woman says "No, I don't think I would I have small hands" or something like that and I just thought their commentary is hilarious
Why did this make me laugh and cry 😭 I just watched make happy again and then saw this and now I’m sobbing again
Wow, Baltimore really listened to his lyrics. That's beautiful
I have watched ALL of the Pringles can performances and I LOVE them so much. This one is very, very amazing and impressive.....however, I do not prefer it above the other performances at all. I think it is equally as great as the other performances in it's own way, but the others have been so wonderful that this one can not surpass any of the others. Plus it isn't better than the bo burnham performances of other songs. But it's equal because it's very impressive!!!! However, in this performance "Bo Burnham" is very, very confident, almost too confident and PERFECT.....in his other performances and other songs, he is still very confident, but there is a bit of a vulnerable quality that comes through. Some people might think that isn't a good thing, but I think that quality shows more of his personality and that gives the audience someone they can relate to.
The camera is a bit wobbly here, but other than that, I think this is a very, very, very impressive view of bo burnham...a little more up close than the other pringles performances...very, very amazing work from the production crew and bo burnham!!!
But if I were paying to see him perform, I would want to see the other performances and then this one too, but not this one and not the others.
Sometimes little imperfections can be really attractive too. Example: I always watch Bo Burnham's hands when he plays keyboards...I love his hands..his fingers are long..some people might say that's an imperfection, but to me it is not; Chopin had very long fingers too and that's why he could reach more than an octave easily with his thumb and pinky..I love how Bo Burnham's hands look on the keyboard, with their long fingers...reminds me of Chopin or other really cool pianists :.)
+Amendolara Holistic Piano yes, this performance is brilliant!! Just not better than any other Bo burnham performances of any of his songs!!!! I'm right!!!!
+Amendolara Holistic Piano I think I can't compare this performance to the other pringles performances because bo burnham is so far away in those other performances...here he is close up and i love that about this one. The other pringles can performances might be the same as this one but I'm not sure...I mean they're all amazing; I love all of them. I love all the other songs just as much, where you can see all of Bo burnham's facial expressions.
+Christian Campbell well GOOD LUCK with that one! lmao!! I CAN NOT remember the last time I shut up when somebody wanted me to!!!!!! You are just too cute to think I would shut up when I haven't shut up in ..lets see....probably about 25 years. So sorry, NO I won't shut up.
But I am curious as to your issue. You have not communicated anything of substance or intelligence.
I didn't think I was saying anything critical about Bo Burnham's performances.....I always say that I love them, and I do.
+Christian Campbell yo no need for that she's not hurting you
+Christian Campbell I can't see how I am hurting you, honestly!!!! I have said a bunch of times that bo burnham is my favorite comedian. I thought my comments were positive in general.
Imagine sitting through the entire show and then getting kicked out for heckling and missing can't handle this...what a bum
Oh my..SO much respect for Bo. He really is an inspiration, for everyone
The hands motions are everything lmao
for my money, bo is the best comic we have today
Incredible filming job wow just wow 👍🏼
Damn this hit different live 😲🥲
I LOVE this so much!!!! Bo Burnham is so amazing. He is a genius. I did check out Tim Minchin, and yes, he is also a genius! there's room for two great genius musican, artists, comedians in this big world. (I still have a big crush on Bo Burnham, lol, though I love Tim Minchin platonically :.) Truthfully, i never got to meet or see either of them live, but I can dream :.)
