Here's a little review with the Laing X-15 Vest Arm kit with Laing P-04 Video Stabilizer. Read full article at cheesycam.com/r....
And one more point. I know you don't have a monitor on the Stabilizer and that's something you should get for your own safety and to improve the quality of your flying... You are standing in the worst possible spot, at the back, in the no-mans land on the rig. You should mostly be at a 45 to the sled on either side. You'll get a better fly and a lot more control. I've been flying for 4 years, all kinds of rigs. I teach steadicam and am Steadicam certified. I love the Laing stuff. CHEAP!
Too lazy to work with the RAW files and just wanted to put this video out quick. Works great though.
Both the Tokina and Sigma are great lenses for flying, but you might be better with a Tokina on a 60D.
A slider is nice for side to side, but a stabilizer will get you different types of footage and you can move more quickly. You might not need a vest. You can always just start with a hand held stabilizer and then decide later if you need a vest to handle the weight. For a 60D you could look into a something as small as a Glidecam HD1000 (or similar aftermarket stabilizers).
Getting ready to make a purchase and this system was one of my main contenders. Thanks so much for the video, very helpful!
7:28 let me warm up a bit before I... walk! Nice gear and nice review as always!
I have not tried an FS700, but there is another Laing vest on my blog called the Laing M-02 that is shown with a RED.
Normally the Glidecam handle is larger than these, so it would fit over, but it won't be a snug fit.
Talking about photography Vest, LAING is definitely a good choice. This store has help me customized wooden box. An sincere seller.---
I been using the Sigma 18-35 recently without the vest and It definitely increased the weight but haven't tested it on the vest yet. Waiting on my Rode Video Mic Pro to come to add some additional weight for the bmpcc. I noticed the Laing P-04 also work much better with the heavy weight.
thanks for posting! Have you tried the stabilizer with a camera rig system?
i bought the P-04S and i can highly recommend it, it`s great...
I love this... at 07:28 the "model" walker is shaking his hands and looks down as he puts his foot forward as if was getting ready for some amazing stunt or something... but then..... naaa... he just walks :) LOL!
The Laing is a bit smaller in size but feels heavier than the Wieldy. They both cannot be disassembled like a Glidecam.
Where's the footage with the Blackmagic camera?
I was too lazy to process the RAW video footage. Since I didn't show the footage I guess you shouldn't look at this system for your BMCC. Go and buy something else.
Check out the zip gears from Jag35 or WideopenCamera
How much weight do you have on the vest system? Perhaps you're setup is too light? The arm works better when it's loaded up a bit more.
Thanks for sharing and I do love your site. We have the bigboy version of this at work, and it's true as you say. You can't fly any leightweight setup without really loading it down to about 15 pounds and even then it's not that great. Inerita is good but it's underweighted.
Later for that knucklehead below.....thanks for the review Emm and keep up the good work!
No it would not if you allow your arms to be flexible. All of the irregular movements can be absorbed through the gimbal.
@Justyn. You reference standing at the back being "the worst possible spot". I'm new to this... could you elaborate on this point?
I have a link in the description.
Ahh, thanks! Think I found their eBay shop as well, I'm in the UK so it may be easier that way!
nice vid, no bmcc steadycam footage there at the end, teasin!
where's the blackmagic cinema footage?... :(
Regarding the P4 (or, I suppose, any flyer): Suggestions as to how to dampen the pendulum effect? ...add bottom weight and keep it short?
Is there an easy way to mount the vest to a Ronin M? I was looking at the cinimilled potion but not sure it will work
also one more thing, can the laing arm and vest system work for both left handed and right handed operators like the Wieldy arm and vest systems?
Hi there, noticed that your vest is branded with the logo "Came TV", are they a good company to source the stabilizer from? Thanks
If I tried to jump through that fork in the tree. I'd still be stuck in it.
great review... was thinking of buying the weildy then I saw this.... I use a Glidecam hd4000 with 5d mark3 ... would the vest arm knob fit the glidecam ?
Question, Will it handle the Canon C100 with the handle attached and a Rode NTG3 mounted? I have the Steadicam Arm and Vest but it seems like it CANT handle the weight, i get a lot of vibrations and shakyness in my footage. Do you have any suggestions for heavier cameras? Thanks in advance!
Hey Em, I'm debating between this and the Wieldy Iron Triangle you previously reviewed. I am going to be using it with a 5D3 and a rokinon 14mm or a canon 24-105 for action sports run and gun. I'm looking for stabilizer only, no vest, which one do you think would be the better option? I'm leaning more towards the laing for only $25 more. Oh and can the laing be taken apart for travel like a glidecam?
Thanks,
Aviel
Yes.
Yeah a monitor is very useful indeed. Thanks.
I have this vest but my footage tends to move up and down a little bit. I think I dont have the vest setup correctly :(
What sort of motorised follow focus (wired, or wireless) could you recommend for this setup, on the cheap?
simple clear good video ... thank you
If you were jumping with only the stabilizer would it move a lot?
I already have a stabilizer, now looking for a vest. Do you know what size the thread is on the spring arm's rotating post? 3:56
what price am i looking at for this set up, take into fact that i also live in Australia
Hey what lens gear is that on your sigma 20? I need one for my tamron 24-70 VC (which has a very narrow focus ring)
I'm doing work filming mostly music videos and small business commercial type shoots, I'd like to invest in equipment for better dynamic/creative shots.
In your opinion would it be better to invest into a stabilizer like the Laning p-04 or invest into a Konova K2 Slider? and is the vest and arm kit needed for shooting music video type gigs? I use a canon 60D, do I get a Tokina 11-16mm or sigma 20mm lens? I know it's a lot, hope you or someone with the knowhow can help me.
thanks,
how much does the vest alone costs?
thanks
Search my website for 'Glidecam HD1000 DSLR Video Stabilizer Demonstration'. You'll get an idea of what a small hand held stabilizer can do.
Would this work with the glidecam hd2000? And if not, what affordable setup would you recommend?
I can work, but you need the correct post adapter. I would contact them to see if they have something like that.
How much for the whole setup?
How smooth is the gimbal? I've seen some reviews complaining about it. Thanks!
it DOES have friction, so I had to ask for a replacement
Hello, i bought this material without the USER MANUAL. Do you have a link to it?
THanks a lot.
Hi, I did not get any manual with mines either when I purchased it. I just went on youtube and got all the help I needed.
Which channel please? do you have links?
does the arm and the glidecam and the camera make a presure and weight on your chest
lotfi boutebal You feel it mostly around the hips, and sometimes over the shoulders. If you adjust the vest properly it should be comfortable all around.
good info thanks...
Can you do low mount?
Would the laing 04 be good with the Canon T3i ?
Yes it would work, but it would be best if you could make the camera heavier. Adding a battery grip to the camera, and even a quick release base system on top would make it more stable.
Ok so what stabilizer do yo recommend for that camera?
Daniel Rich Check out my XCAM video. This one is small and portable but can fly a light camera to a medium weight camera cheesycam.com/xcam-sabre-mini-video-stabilizer-review/
Thanks
Hello, do you have a link to the user manual of this steadicam? Mine came without any.
