    hi, it's great) what flex of boots do you use?

  • @AlexanderMalaev
    @AlexanderMalaev 6 років тому

    Hi Ryan,
    What do you think about extremecarving technique? Did you experiment with your stance to achieve the same laid-down turns as your frontside in a backside? :)
    As I see you use angulation on your backside carves, and you can't do backside laid-down turns as deep as your frontside laid-down carves.
    I ride in more directed stance(23/10 angles) and I don't use angulation all time, I use inclination in front-side and back-side turns to set my carve angle.
    And I think with your stance is very hard or impossible to do the same thing with backside turns.
    Thank you for your videos, I love it! Really smooth and stylish!

    • @RyanKnapton
      @RyanKnapton  6 років тому

      I ride switch stance a lot so I use 15,-15. I have used high +,+ a couple times just as tests, and that indeed helps with the body position for EC heelsides. But obviously riding switch-stance is awful then. As for my own EC style heelsides, here's the best I have that I've have on tape. I'd say pretty f'n good for a softboot setup with a duck stance, but they aren't something that I do most days like I do on the toeside. Still a work-in-progress. ua-cam.com/video/SYCaFg1ObYs/v-deo.html
      Thanks and happy shreddin!

    hi mate!! really best run ever ... one question i want to buy a snowboard like you but donek is very expensive board, did you know some similar board from burton or other brand? im interested in burton bottom feeder but you tink is good to try to use like you in this video?

    • @RyanKnapton
      @RyanKnapton  6 років тому

      In general I recommend a 'wide' board so you can tilt it on edge more before hitting boots into the snow. And a bit on the stiffer side (with Camber) is preferred for what I do too. So look for those general characteristics, and if like riding switch and Twin is preferred too. Best luck and happy shreddin!

    Ryan thnx so much for your carving tips! One question, you say to have your shoulders heading to the front. Did i get it right? and what is your stance angle? Duck 15 is okay?

    • @RyanKnapton
      @RyanKnapton  6 років тому

      Hi. For me, I recommend shoulders to the front and use more of a body position that alpine riders use, for a more advanced, freestylish way of carving (once you are already carving great using the traditional stance of shoulders in line with the board). For beginners my techniques won't really help. But if you're already ripping pretty good carves, then this way is better. And the past that yet, is adding extra rotation of the upper body in within the turns (haven't made a vid on this yet, but will be soon). And last thought on upper body positioning... nothing has to be mutually exclusive! Try a few carves with shoulders in line, then try the next few with them facing forward, and it's easy to play around and find the pros and cons and how they feel and when you may want to use both positions. Best luck and happy shreddin!

    • @stephenmoon1099

    What board do u use? Absolutely amazing watch all ur vids one of if not the best I have seen on a board all day.....

    • @RyanKnapton
      @RyanKnapton  6 років тому

      I use a Donek Knapton. It's a stiffer board designed for carving hard, but still with a twin shape for freestyle riding. The specs on Doneks can all be customized, so I go ultra wide for deep carving with my low stance angles. (other wise on like a 26cm waist, I'd 'boot-out' and fall from riding my boots rather than the boards edge, when I do the real low carves. Thanks and happy shreddin!

    Ryan have you thought of doing a re make of your buttering tutorials? I know its readily available at peoples finger tips to scrol back l into your youtube Channel. I find when people join channels they will watch from then on forward. And i had to laugh because sometimes the choice of music was or is limited. There was one in particular that ive heard even in none snowboarding videos that you used. But i have to say the one with the guitar in your how to really really really carve pt 1 actually flows well with it. Those buttering tutorials though i have to say from 2014 are very very well done. Especially when you hear instructors complimenting /commenting on the detail / explanation of every move going into jumps presses etc. Is there a possibility of doing a video with metal? You had some vidéos few yrs ago with metal music. And they were awsome . are you limited because of copy rights? That would be a good video to do on how you edit. Music choice etc.. Yes i know lots of questions lol . what about the possibility of doing a clothing or gear line? Weve all modded out equiptment. Or change it Like the liner in the pants cutting them out etc. I actually cut / shaved some of the heal rubber off my boot. Just to lessen drag. that would be a good future endevour buisness possibilty. I bought the donex. Twin 30.8 waist board. Cant wait to try it btw. I knew i was really last yr when i purposly pushed my board hard and too much chatter and booting out. And put on 20 lbs this yr and im 216lbs needed a solid board. Lots looking forward to that. Going tonigjt to show those park kids how to carve

    Yo Ryan, are your heelside carves ever as drastic as your toeside? What i mean is, when i apply pressure on my toeside, my sidecut takes off like a rocket. Its like an accelerator pedal. But my heelside never gets the same action. Any thoughts?

    • @timwheelock1121
      @timwheelock1121 6 років тому +1

      Try an asymmetric twin shape, and forward angle on highback?

    • @nickngaopraseut6717
      @nickngaopraseut6717 6 років тому

      You probably don’t have an aggressive angle on your highbacks.

    • @justinflynt4566
      @justinflynt4566 6 років тому

      Just maxed out forward lean, alot better! Thanks guys!

    • @RyanKnapton
      @RyanKnapton  6 років тому +1

      yup, for sure add forward lean. without it, no way to get the right amount of pressure on the edge. If you tilt your board too much and 'boot-out' that can definitely make you hold back from carving it as deep as you might want. Someday I'm going to bring a measuring tape out with me cuz I'm pretty sure I can make a tight heelside carve, and it have a smaller radius than my toeside. (which I attribute to using a duckfoot stance, thus on the heelside carve the pressure on the board is closer to the center of the board, thus I can decamber the board further (which tightens the turning radius). As a thought experiment to see that, imagine how little action you'd get out of your sidecut if you had a stance so wide that you were almost standing all the way out to where the nose and tail rise.... in that case, no matter how much you tilt the board on edge, it'd be really difficult to get the pressure to the middle of the board to make that decamber during the turn, so the radii of that turn would be much bigger. In that aspect its something I've definitely felt when I made the "how to find your snowboard stance" video. So crank up the forward lean, and happy shreddin!

    I have been learning a lot from your videos! An issue I am having now is that when I try to really push into carves instead of a smooth carve it seems to slow me down more than anything. Almost like braking. Maybe someone else has input too? Thanks! Really enjoy the videos!

    • @Ojymals
      @Ojymals 6 років тому

      I run into the same problem! im trying to learn from his videos too but when i try to heel side carve i slow down a lot. it only works when i squat down really low and center myself on the board. The moment i lean toward the nose of the board i just go into a skidded turn...

    • @17ellevehc
      @17ellevehc 6 років тому

      I havent tried it yet but I saw in a snowboard addiction video about how to carve you have to be on your edge from 12 to 6 o clock for it to initiate better.
