Excellent presentation, this video has help me massively. I have a similar problem with my daughters 1.6 VVt. This has given me good direction of what to look for. I have checked the fuse so I will now remove the rocker cover and check the motor and soleniods. Thank you.
Just changed timing chain and guides on a pug 207cc 1.6 thp 150 turbo (looks identical apart from turbo). Valve timing out due to missing 2 teeth on bottom sproket. Pig of a job. Hate the PUG/BMW engine. Big Thumbs Up

Fantastic tutorial.... I don’t have a computer for diagnostics but I did this test as I believed the lifter motor was stuck. I connected my test wires exactly as seen in the video and the motor moved... switched wires over and it moved back again... I thought I would try it one more time but this time there was a tiny spark at the ecu plug when connecting the probes and now the lifter motor won’t move anymore, have I blown the relay or a fuse ??? Timing chain had just been done but the car would not Rev past 1500 rpm, now it won’t start at all 🤔 any help on the fuse or relay or what I need to do to now to fix what I’ve blown 👍
I connected my probe wires exactly as you have done in your video, the motor rocked one way, I then reversed the probes and it rocked back the other way, I tried it one more time and there was a tiny spark at the probe and the actuator wouldn’t work again... so I’m guessing I’ve blown a fuse maybe ?? If I have blown a fuse then I’m unsure which one and where to find it ?? Thank you for your reply 👍
If you did it the exact same way as I did, and your car is the exact same as the one on the video, as you have seen the motor connects straight to the ecu... So, unless your motor somehow has shorted and when you plugged everything back it burned some fuses or your electrical system is different and something else happened... It is difficult to say... All the fuses are on that box in the engine, and inside by the glove box on the BSI... Check everything!

hi, Nice video, the variable motor gives very hard start also, had the same 308 issue myself , but I only go as fuses & check motor powers & ground , unless guys are going to pay to check wiring to the ecu. My customers cry about paying for in depth stuff like you do. :(
Sry to say but as i was watching video, & you 1st dismissed the fuse for being to themotor , I had a lil chuckle to myself, cus that is exactly the issue i had. But luckly for me I found the blown fuse & rechecked it :) , even tho no reference to the motor. :(
My 308 has the exact fault codes and new plugs and bridging the batery fuses did not solve the problem, it still stugels to start and when it does it just stals at random

Great work again! Liked that you took the rocker cover off so could see how it actually works inside. I'm guessing those plugs haven't been changed in a while but the head looked really clean so the oil or car hasn't been badly neglected. Pretty poor someone broke that electrical connector, it's not like you can get replacements very easily :( Also interesting the other "alternative" fuses used on that car. I've never seen those before! Thanks again for sharing, Really admire your patience and thoroughness!
Hi there, we have a 2011 Peugeot 207 cc in limp mode with a p1067 and p1030, occasionally we get the p1078 and p1025 and p1015 codes. We are sure the fault we have is with the Valve lift. Is the 70 amp midi fuse on top the battery to do with the variable valve lift? Have ordered the fuse and hoping that solves our issue. Is it worth replacing the solenoids and vv motor if the fuse doesn't work. What set up do you have to test the solenoids and motor etc? My obd is very basic and I think I need to take the car to someone with your set up. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Is the fuse blown? I don't recall now without checking which fuse is for what... unless I have mentioned it in the video... I would have it properly diagnosed before continuing to throw parts at it... as you can end up with an unnecessary expensive bill, and worse, still have the same issue...
I bought the car with the eccentric sensor plug reversed! Is it possible to have destroyed ecu? The car starts cold, but when it warms up, if I turn off the engine, it starts and stops by itself! If I accelerate the engine when I start it, it does not stop, it remains at idle but a little under-revving, and if I remove the plug from the eccentric sensor, the engine works perfectly. Please can you help me?

If I remove the plug from the eccentric sensor and start the engine it works perfectly and if I stop it and start it again with the plug it still works perfectly and one more thing if I do the valvetronic tester test and start the engine it works perfectly and if I stop it and start it again it starts again it stops by itself! On the tester I have error code p2178 to rich mixture! Can you help me too, I'm from Stoke-on-Trent please for a fee of course?

hi lm really informative video, i have a citroen similar fault codes, similar problem not starting, the relay is stuck as yours was and if i power the circuit like you did it comes on, is the relay fuse box needs replacing or the bsi is not sending the signal to the relay to close and come out of sleep mode and power on car, thanks again for the video

@przemekfryc5495 You can't really compare... Diagbox will only do peugeot and Citroën... Autel will do many other cars... If you need a tool just for Peugeot or Citroën, Diagbox is a good choice, if you ever need to scan other cars, the the Autel or other similar tool...

Hi dear I'm having a trouble with my 308 petrol and the problem is I turn on the car, all works fine, but when the car reach the temperature to activate the fan, the car turn on check engine light, works on 3 cylinder and Lexia say misfire cylinder 1. If I unplug some sensor(camshaft exhaust sensor or solenoide for exhaust camshaft) the car runs perfect but with check engine on. That's the only error related with malfunction and another about thermostat What I can check?( I change lambdas, injector, spark, bobine, camshaft sensor)

I see this video is from 2 years ago, right now the maxisys does recognize these fault codes and gives the correct discription. What software did you use on the laptop? Hi Sir Thank you for all your nice video and research. I am from Holland. And I have a problem with cold start 1.6 vti engine peugeot 3008 120 ps. It is rough idling for 30/40 seconds. After 2 seconds being at 900 rpm it is ging to 1200 rpm and than slowly going to 900 rpm. So at this time it is idling rough with I think some misfire for at least 30 seconds. And after 30/40 seconds it is running excellent. The whole day I have no problems with starting the car. And this problem is happening every morning. Do I have to reset adaptations valvetronic unit.????? I don't get error codes or emission light on. Or is it the viscosity of the oil. I use full synthetic 10W-60 because this type of engines like oil consumption. Thanks Chris
LM Auto Repairs I have original power probe 3 which is quite expensive, but I found equivalent for 52gbp (less than half the power probe price) with bigger and much nicer screen and more functions. The only question is: how is the quality. It may be worth to consider buing that, but I don't know.

Hi, Thanks for your videos on car repairs. They are very informative and interesting. I have a peugeot 308 1.4 vti 2009. I have been having starting issue for the past 3 months now. Engine crank but do not start. It seems that the injector valves do not open. I tried to change ecu by transferring data from ecu to a different ecu. That didn't solve the problem but gave me some fault code at least. The code was P0014, indicating issue with camshaft. Therefore I have changed the timing chain set and still no joy not starting. There is spark but it feels that fuel is not reaching the chamber. Could you please help / guide me to find the problem.. Thanks, Zavid

None of those codes shouldn't make the fan to continuously run... But you never know... it is a French car... Check live data... coolant temp etc... check that is not a stick/welded relay... Thank you for watching!

Hello , sir i have peugeot 308 2008 fault code p0341 inlet cylinder reference sensor signal Coherence and anti pollution fault. I have replace camshaft sensor spark plugs and crankshaft sensor but still fault appear as permanent. I have checked timing its ok. I jave cleaned solenoid valve and tested its working open and close normally. What should i do kindly advice. Many thanks regards

I have the same car at the moment with similar symptoms so I just checked compression in all the cylinders and all but one had full compression would the variable valve timing cause something like a valve not to close to allow compression to build up?

Auto Sport You need to make sure that the interface has the UDS chip/protocol... which is used on newer cars.. My old interface, had the same problem, so when I replace it not long ago, I made sure that I would get the full version... Be carefully, as the old ones still out there for sale... Hi The VVT changes "When" the valve is going to open in relation to the piston position... So to open earlier or later... The valve lift, controls how much the valve opens... To allow gases to escape easier, or to allow more air in... depends where the valve lift system is fitted, intake or exhaust... How exactly have you tested the motor?
You have not put any voltage into the ecu, or have you?

You are testing the intake valve system. You should test the EXAUST side like your scanner says.

hi lm really informative video, i have a citroen similar fault codes, similar problem not starting, the relay is stuck as yours was and if i power the circuit like you did it comes on, is the relay fuse box needs replacing or the bsi is not sending the signal to the relay to close and come out of sleep mode and power on car, thanks again for the video
You need to measure it... see where the signal comes from... without looking at diagrams it is difficult to tell...

You can't really compare... Diagbox will only do peugeot and Citroën...
Autel will do many other cars...
If you need a tool just for Peugeot or Citroën, Diagbox is a good choice, if you ever need to scan other cars, the the Autel or other similar tool...

Diagbox will have more options, but some will require online access to a PSA account...
Will also give you some extra info that Autel does not, like expected parameters on live data etc...

I'm having a trouble with my 308 petrol and the problem is I turn on the car, all works fine, but when the car reach the temperature to activate the fan, the car turn on check engine light, works on 3 cylinder and Lexia say misfire cylinder 1. If I unplug some sensor(camshaft exhaust sensor or solenoide for exhaust camshaft) the car runs perfect but with check engine on.
That's the only error related with malfunction and another about thermostat
What I can check?( I change lambdas, injector, spark, bobine, camshaft sensor)

Nice video! I will get the same model tomorrow with the same fault code to diagnose. I see this video is from 2 years ago, right now the maxisys does recognize these fault codes and gives the correct discription. What software did you use on the laptop? Is that original peugeot software? I despirately need wiring diagrams for peugeot citroen etc. Hard to find on the interwebz

Hi Sir Thank you for all your nice video and research. I am from Holland. And I have a problem with cold start 1.6 vti engine peugeot 3008 120 ps. It is rough idling for 30/40 seconds. After 2 seconds being at 900 rpm it is ging to 1200 rpm and than slowly going to 900 rpm. So at this time it is idling rough with I think some misfire for at least 30 seconds.
And after 30/40 seconds it is running excellent. The whole day I have no problems with starting the car. And this problem is happening every morning.
Do I have to reset adaptations valvetronic unit.????? I don't get error codes or emission light on. Or is it the viscosity of the oil. I use full synthetic 10W-60 because this type of engines like oil consumption. Thanks Chris

You should really have power probe in your tool set. It's brilliant tool for checking fuses and energizing solenoids or motors.

LM Auto Repairs I have original power probe 3 which is quite expensive, but I found equivalent for 52gbp (less than half the power probe price) with bigger and much nicer screen and more functions. The only question is: how is the quality. It may be worth to consider buing that, but I don't know.

Hi, Thanks for your videos on car repairs. They are very informative and interesting. I have a peugeot 308 1.4 vti 2009. I have been having starting issue for the past 3 months now. Engine crank but do not start. It seems that the injector valves do not open. I tried to change ecu by transferring data from ecu to a different ecu. That didn't solve the problem but gave me some fault code at least. The code was P0014, indicating issue with camshaft. Therefore I have changed the timing chain set and still no joy not starting. There is spark but it feels that fuel is not reaching the chamber. Could you please help / guide me to find the problem..

None of those codes shouldn't make the fan to continuously run...
But you never know... it is a French car...
Check live data... coolant temp etc... check that is not a stick/welded relay...

Hello , sir i have peugeot 308 2008 fault code p0341 inlet cylinder reference sensor signal Coherence and anti pollution fault. I have replace camshaft sensor spark plugs and crankshaft sensor but still fault appear as permanent. I have checked timing its ok. I jave cleaned solenoid valve and tested its working open and close normally. What should i do kindly advice. Many thanks regards

I have the same car at the moment with similar symptoms so I just checked compression in all the cylinders and all but one had full compression would the variable valve timing cause something like a valve not to close to allow compression to build up?
The motor will lift all inlet valve together not individually you probably have cracked valve

If was running before the thermostat being changed, then I would go through everything that has been touched during the replacement...

The valve lift system on this car, or on any other car fitted with this system, is the same... to increase the valve lift value... depending on the engine running conditions, that helps reduce emissions and helps the engine to run smoother and more efficient....

You need to make sure that the interface has the UDS chip/protocol... which is used on newer cars..
My old interface, had the same problem, so when I replace it not long ago, I made sure that I would get the full version...
Be carefully, as the old ones still out there for sale...

The VVT changes "When" the valve is going to open in relation to the piston position...
So to open earlier or later...
The valve lift, controls how much the valve opens...
To allow gases to escape easier, or to allow more air in... depends where the valve lift system is fitted, intake or exhaust...
