- This video is called How Would Bach Play Dio? A counterpoint interpretation of the epic "Holy Diver" riff. We'll use Bach's Prime, Inversion, Retrograde and Retrograde Inversion to reinterpret Vivian Campbell's metal masterpiece in a new way. Try using these ideas in your own playing and become a bad ass.

@@ShredmasterScott The modal stuff is cool, but Im referring to the things like at 5:00 where you use the variations of the melody in a solo but also harmonizing it as you're playing it. I'm sure there's a better term for what I'm trying to refer to, like "chord melody" or something like that, but that's the best that I can describe it.

So...despite the discombobulation of my brain matter, I have come to learn that "retro" runs much deeper than a mere reference to a furniture style from the '50s.
Thought I'd start off with something simple, so I tried an inversion of Wipe Out, but I failed miserably. LOL!
