that car is avail now, look at Tesla Inventory site, you can get a model 3 for $36,900 with a 7,500 fed credit. so net under 30k. EZ its a single motor, so correct not so fast, but model 3 is a fun car.
I am rooting for Rivian! I'm a Tesla owner but the build quality is not great so they need some pressure somewhere. Ryan, seeing the location where you film, we are neighbors! lol
Many people have already complained over build quality and ride. I do not believe this will improve with Elon in charge. Other EVs with great handling are already catching up to Tesla in EV prowess and they already have better driving since they have years in the industry. Specially the luxury brands like Porsche, BMW and Mercedes. It will be tough to justify an expensive Tesla over other brands with better quality.

What would sell incredibly well is if those new models replicated the XJ Cherokee and the 3rd gen Ford Ranger. Smaller, but incredibly reliable vehicles at an affordable price, something that you didn’t have to be rich to afford. Some government incentives would obviously help a lot too.
We own the R1S. absolutely amazing vehicle. I am very curious to see what the T will look like.. I haven't heard anything about that. It's usually just the smaller SUV they mention.

Gross profit. That’s likely on the raw materials only but may include frontline labor. They still need to recoup all the R&D, testing, government testing, executives, insurance blah blah blah. The net profit on each is what gets distributed to shareholders which is a small fraction of that amount. All in all though they are definitely on the right track
I'll be replacing my 2009 (14 years old!) Mazda 6 with a Tesla Model 3 next spring. In another year or two after that it'll be time to replace my 2013 Frontier. Both the Cybertruck and the F-150 lightning are way too big for my use case, and the R1T is at the upper limit. By that time I'm hoping to have a choice of R2T or Maverick Lightning.
I recognize that parking lot at the 0:40 mark. The is the lot at the Mountain Meadows golf course by the Los Angeles County fair grounds. You can even see the snow covered Cucamonga Peak in the background

I was in Enid, OK, and the four Francis Energy DC fast chargers did not work. The CCS1 networks suck and if I owned a CCS1 vehicle, I would have to sell it. Luckily, Tesla had a supercharger 30 miles away and towards the direction I was going. CCS1 sucks for the most part.
I’m rooting for Rivian. As a Tesla Model 3 owner, I’m looking forward to seeing more quality alternatives to Tesla. Having said that, I have to disagree with the appeal of the “Cartoon Eye” headlights. I think it makes the front end look like a cartoon pig snout. I heard others make similar comments. I’m hoping they find a way to improve the appeal of the front end.

How would they make an R2T? A compact pickup. I think the only way to make a smaller pickup would be to remove the crew cab. Make it a 2-door. The bed can't be any shorter, so shortening the cab is the only option, IMO.
The R2 with a lower center of gravity and a sportier appearance is much more appealing to me. I'm done with the offroad life so for me this is a much better option.
I’ll agree its a great rendering, but i get more compliments on my Fisker Ocean One SUV than any other car i have driven. It really broke the design mould for an EV SUV. I literally have to add 10-15 minutes to my grocery/Target outings to allow for answering questions from curious people!
Yeah, bought a Honda Ridgeline for $42k. I did the math. It will, based on my driving habits, take about 20 years to burn enough gas to equal the $30k less money I saved by buying the Honda. And I don't have range anxiety. And I have a better built truck. And I have a truck that does 100% of what I need. And I get 350-390 miles per tank. And it only takes me 5 minutes to refuel.

It rides nicer than any other mid-size truck. With the recent refresh, looks as good as any other mid-size truck. Has more interior space than any other midsize truck. And with the $30,000 I saved by not getting a Rivian, I can pay for gas, oil, and any other fluids for a good 20 years. Also, Consumer Reports recently rated Rivian as one of the lowest quality car companies on the market.

Several years ago I wasn't in a position where I could gamble on a Model S and the company staying solvent, so we waited until the Model 3 was out and the company looked like it would be a going concern. We took a chance with a R1T recently, and I REALLY am hoping that the R2 is their moment similar to Tesla! I am reasonably confident that it will be, as the company seems quite solid, and the R1T is a pretty stunning product - I like it better than my 3 in almost every way - the only real drawback is lack of Supercharger network... but that's changing soon!
If the new cheaper SUV is low to the ground, it may be more range aerodynamic, but it does worse on trails like the Model Y. You need ground clearance for trails, like the new Subaru electric. Most Subarus destroy trails…
I would never consider buying a model Y simply due to its looks. However, I would get a model 3, but I would get this R2 over the 3 if the price is within 10k. But only if the R2s can hit a 0-60 of 3 seconds.
So......if everything goes well, and the company survives the competition, you might be able to buy the R2 SUV in 2026-27, built in the boondocks of GA.......

We need 3-row SUVs. The Model X is the only option out there really, and it's got issues with price, complexity, 3rd row space, and a headrest I cannot stand. The R1S is the one that interested me; though with the EV9 coming, there will finally be some options.
How much money does Rivian lose per vehicle? Do they have access to the Tesla Supercharging network. What FSD do they have? What is the range and life expectancy of their batteries?
I've been critical of your coverage before, because it's very clearly Tesla-biased but this is a great video. Really like the part about explaining why Tank-Turn was ultimately abandoned--I can't see that being the actual reason, but from an optics standpoint, it's a perfect explanation for a company like Rivian. Also, really wishing I owned Rivian stock instead of Lucid at this point but I do think Lucid can still make a turn around. At least I'm not in crazy deep (50 shares).
I've got shares in both thankfully (and much later pricing than IPO), but I'm hoping Lucid turns it around quick since I'm down by 50% on that one (eek) - Rivian is currently bailing them out for me.

Agreed. A powered hard shell will break and cost 💲 10k to replace. This is a common issue with the top on the Mazda max-5 power roof. Super expensive if it breaks.

Its a simple recipe, Rivian just needs to have the same Model Y formula like optional seats for 7-seats, lots of cargo space, 350-400 miles of range.

Would love to get an EV that costs between 25k to 30k. I think that would be the magic number to get most of the general public to buy the cars.
With incentives, the Model 3 is about 30k or less. Chevy Bolt is less.

The positive part on your lucid stock is it’s mostly owned by the Saudi Severn fund they are every reason to see their investment turn around

Rivian said R2 will be a compact SUV, it is not gonna be as roomy as Tesla model Y. It may be even smaller than Ford Mustang Mach E
I'd definitely be interested in an R2T. I'm currently in a Hyundai Santa Cruz so something of similar size, but electric, would be very desirable.
I hope they don't call it that, it just doesn't sound as good as R1T 😂
