- Matthew's Begats sung by Andrew Peterson on the Gospel Music Channel - my favorite!
Lyrics: Abraham had Isaac
Isaac, he had Jacob
Jacob, he had Judah and his kin
Then Perez and Zerah
Came from Judah's woman, Tamar
Perez, he brought Hezron up
And then came
Aram, then Amminadab
Then Nahshon, who was then the dad of Salmon
Who with Rahab fathered Boaz
Ruth, she married Boaz who had Obed
Who had Jesse
Jesse, he had David who we know as king
David, he had Solomon by dead Uriah's wife
Solomon, well you all know him
He had good old Rehoboam
Followed by Abijah who had Asa
Asa had Jehoshaphat had Joram had Uzziah
Who had Jotham then Ahaz then Hezekiah
Followed by Manasseh who had Amon
Who was a man
Who was father of a good boy named Josiah
Who grandfathered Jehoiachin
Who caused the Babylonian captivity
Because he was a liar
Then he had Shealtiel, who begat Zerubbabel
Who had Abiud who had Eliakim
Eliakim had Azor who had Zadok who had Akim
Akim was the father of Eliud then
He had Eleazar who had Matthan who had Jacob
Now, listen very closely
I don't want to sing this twice
Jacob was the father of Joseph
The husband of Mary
The mother of Christ
Lovely Song Merry Christmas Jesus Is Coming Soon Maran Ata Hallelujah 💖🇮🇱🕊️Shalom
I was about 6 or 7 when I heard this. I’ve memorized this from heart. I was obsessed with this song. My love of Andrew Peterson’s music has only grown, but this will always be my favorite. And ten years later, I still proudly sing this to my friends at church.
I just hear this song for the first time tonight and it's my new fave. This is AWESOME.
The song is a great reminder of Who's Who in the Bible. The genealogy reminds us that the people were not all Jews. Christ came to save all mankind
WOW>>>>what a memory!
I love this song, and I always wondered about the Jehoiachim line. I love studying OT history, and the kings of Israel and the divided kingdom, and wondered how he got that about "because he was a liar"...now I know (1:25). BTLOG is on my top 10 list of albums, and if you consider it a Christmas album, it's my favorite Christmas album hands down! To me the whole album is more of the redemption story than Christmas, and that's why I love it! Thanks Andrew for such inspired music!
All Scripture is profitable. Amen!
This is AWESOME I REPEAT AWESOME
When he said "because he was a liar"... right afterwards he said "which isn't really true but it rhymed"... lol get it?
Went to his recent Behold the Lamb of God concert... really really just in awe of his music
I got to give up to him. This is a pretty catchy song for being a genealogy.
we sing this at camp. good song!
Very good!!
WOWWWWWWWWW
Can anyone put the chords here? I will look elsewhere as well. Thanks.
There' Andy O!
Awesome,
Do you have a cool tune (or the same one) for the generations from Adam to Terah?
"Who caused the Babalonian captivity, because he was a liar. Which isn't really true but it rhymes..."
FYI ZakiaTF, "Josiah" does rhyme with " lia' "
Well I can't understand none of it. This one begat that one and that one begat this one, and lo and behold someone says some sh*t to someone else.
