What ever became of the original fire truck from the first two seasons. I really loved the open cab and the way the truck looked. That would be a good one for the museum as well. Long ago, Kansas City, Mo. And I think St. Louis, Mo. Used those too. The open cab version was the more classic version of the two. Emergency was a brilliant show and did a lot for helping start the Paramedic programs in the USA. That show is what got people interested in becoming a paramedic.
Yes I used to watch this program when I was a kid and it really inspired me now being a dad well my son join the fiery’s here in Australia Yes I will donate
I was an 8yo southern West Virginia boy during 1972 when 'Emergency' hit the airwaves. Needless to say, Johnny, Roy and all the E-51/S-51 crews were greatly responsible for me spending 27 years as a Firefighter/EMS First Responder in WV and MD.
If Ward did the upgrades, they should have the records of what was changed out. I know for years, 51 appeared in just about every Southern California parade. This has to be the most documented vehicles in history.
First & foremost, I sincerely applaud the effort !! I get to see re-runs , here in Allentown, PA, and I love it. (We had an AMERICAN LaFrance here, & it was found in a field, and some good people got it back to my now-former company). (Restoration extensive; I'd like to see more done). L.A.County, still interested ? Seriously, I'd love to take still photos & send them to you !!!! :-)
I love the 4 panel windshield configuration. I remember as a kid in the 70's thinking how futuristic looking trucks like that looked. This video is 3 years old. Any updates? Was it finished?
To help in the restoration, I'd like to suggest that every so often someone updates the museum website or you tube video with a listing of information with which you already have, so as to reduce duplication of information.
Have you checked with American Lafrance just give them vin number and they should be able to give you info on what each compartment was made to hold they might have pictures of before it left the plant.
at the beginning of the understanding episode from season three they had appliances on both discharges and also had hose in the pocket beneath the red 51. The hose bed dividers there was 3 of them for 4 sections.
Those hoses are called HARD SUCTION used for drafting water from a STATIC source like a pond or river. Your thinking about the synthetic type hoses that are used for supply or fire attack. Nothing wrong with this set up.
At 5:00 he puts his hand on that ledge beneath the ladders and asks if it was red or silver. Season 3, Episode 4 you can see it is silver as the engine drives by laying duals at the opening structure fire. There's also an ABC Extinguisher just forward of that compartment and an CO2 extinguisher just forward of the LDH discharge.
Well, because it was being used as a real engine. It's equipment probably needed upgrading over the years to more modern gear since the engine is now about 40 years old.
Almost every Ward La France I have seen in the last 20 yrs. has been marked "51" , surely with the museum verifying this rig is the real thing. Just a lot of E 51 imitations out there.
1 i do not remember seeing those lights on the engine 2 that service panel i do not remembering seeing that not unless i missed it 3 the numbers were defenatly not there 4 the hose bed did not have those dividers 5 the ladders and poles are in the original areas were kept 6 there was a round light ontop for the red light original. I would love to drive that in a parking lot
It and squad 51 also appeared in episodes of CHiPs, of course with different firefighters/paramedics. Must have been Mike, Chet, Marco, Roy, Johnny and Captain Stanley's day off. 😁
Are you willing to enter a burning building to save a life? Are you willing to climb an 80 foot ladder, get on the roof of a burning building and cut a hole in the roof so the 1000+ degrees of heated air can vent? Are you willing to drive a 50,000 lb truck under emergency conditions and hope some idiot driver doesn't try to kill you? Michael, your statement reveals you are grossly uninformed and quite a shallow thinker. Moreover, most people love the fire service and are thrilled to be able to donate to the preservation of historic equipment.
Great job. Do you sell shirts let me kbow thank you Chris coughlin 551. Third ave apt g Lyndhurst nj 07071. Thank you do you sell shirts size 2xxl i would like 1 thank you so much.
Emergency! was a great T.V. show and the show was cancelled with NBC was 38 years ago. I also don't like Dukes of Hazzard period because of the confederate flag that stirs up lots of controversy and most cable networks refuses to reair reruns of Dukes of Hazzard both TV Series and the movie version because of the confederate flag that's totally racist. I prefer Knight Rider and Emergency! better that aren't racist.

The open cab Crown is in the museum.

Would love to go and see your museum. Some day when all of the covid is over with.
Great video great truck
I like emergency that was my favorite show I have the complete series I'm a big fan
After seeing your video, I happened to be watching an episode of Emergency! and I noticed the Ward Lafrance emblems were missing at that time.....
Good for you ! (I seem to be the only [2/2018] person on this........

Its beautiful
The Engine can also be seen in the movie "The China Syndrome" from 1979. A great film.
Have you checked with American Lafrance just give them vin number and they should be able to give you info on what each compartment was made to hold they might have pictures of before it left the plant.
there was a 12 foot pike pool i believe above the drafting hoses
you need the old scba tanks that are set up directly infront of the back jump seats.
at the beginning of the understanding episode from season three they had appliances on both discharges and also had hose in the pocket beneath the red 51. The hose bed dividers there was 3 of them for 4 sections.
Rear chauffer side compartment had a roll of 3 inch in it I seen episode were chet and marce grabbed it and deployed it to a hydrant
Those hoses are called HARD SUCTION used for drafting water from a STATIC source like a pond or river.

Nothing wrong with this set up.
The tv show emergency!will show what engine 51 looks like, i'm looking for still of engine 51 from the tv show
It would be my guess that the restoration has been completed. Is that indeed the case?

are u going to restore squad 51 ??????????
I hope they can get the Ward restoration finished in time for the show's 40th Anniversary next year...
the light bar needs to be replaced with the single rotating light
Well, because it was being used as a real engine. It's equipment probably needed upgrading over the years to more modern gear since the engine is now about 40 years old.
Where is Squad 51?
Mike Stoker who was the Chief ENGINEER from the Series 1-6 took care of it it in the Season 3-6
I remember Mike Stoker driving the engine.
Should be a scba bracket next Marco and chets seats I belive I seen a video of them donning then in the cab that way
For the Hard suction pipes, the Bottom one has two, a smaller one inside a larger one.
I think it's NFPA code for older apparatus, still in use.
It's for safety reasons.
Where is squad 51? Are you going to restore it?
It's restored and in the museum.
Almost every Ward La France I have seen in the last 20 yrs. has been marked "51" , surely with the museum verifying this rig is the real thing. Just a lot of E 51 imitations out there.
What about the first Engine 51 it didn't have roof. In the first Squad 51 which was the older Dodge you guys around them ones up yet
That flap beneath the red 51 sign was not there
Have you guys received enough screenshots yet?

I like engine 51

black paint at bottom of the ladder and the two tops of the ladder were white.
make part 3 and so on
I never drove a vehicle that had front wheels behind the driver.Must be the same rush you get driving a military tracked vehicle.
@engine173351 the hoses on ths side should be tan not black
Sharing!!!!
Could have done without the crappy music at the end. It's a shame what was done to that rig after the TV series ended.
The engine had a gum drop light
Why did they do this now we have to fix it with you
season 3 episode 6 shows close up of back of truck and sides
Engine 51 appeared briefly moving in The China Syndrome
Great film.
I saw that & was wondering what film it was. Thank you !!,
It and squad 51 also appeared in episodes of CHiPs, of course with different firefighters/paramedics. Must have been Mike, Chet, Marco, Roy, Johnny and Captain Stanley's day off. 😁
I think Fireman alone should restore this at their cost (La County Fire. Dept.) due to being paid plenty. They save lives so don't ever forget.

I don't see why some idiot would put modern day parts on it anyway.
