Its the vast number of different designs and innovations that makes it so cool, not like todays smart phones where they al look basically the same - shame there aren't smart phones designed like this!
I know it has been sometime. But I REALLY enjoyed going down memory lane. I bought this in 1999 it launched me into the world of PDA's. It was extremely useful for my international business travels. With it, I stopped carrying a very bulky laptop and briefcase. I put e-books on it and would read at least two books for each international trip. Thanks for this video!!
I'm glad you enjoyed it. The Palm V is a genuine classic and great for ebooks! If you want to relive it I would recommend the M500, they are very cheap on ebay have an SD slot and most importantly the battery is very easy to replace unlike on the V or Vx :-)
It is cool, its pretty good to type on, they did an updated version for later models and there's a universal (ie works with windows CE as well) IR version made by another company which I have as well
That is an interesting point, well spotted I had not noticed! Having had a look the original palm pilots have application buttons and it looks like the 2nd gen Palm V and Palm IIIx moved to a home icon
@@HandheldComputing these devices can be a bit tricky, I recently acquired a Palm V, I didn't know it's history, I put it in it's cradle to charge it up, I had it on charge for like 10 hours, took it off the cradle to use it and within about 5 minutes a low battery warning came up, I just assumed the battery was old, no problem I was going to buy a new battery and install it and that would be that, but then I thought to manually charge that battery out of the Palm V and on my test bench, I set my power supply to 4.19 volts and 300 maH current, it took about 5 hours or so to charge but it did charge and has been holding charge for at least 3 days, only on the 4th day did the battery meter start to drop a bit, so I'm thinking it's something as simple as either the contacts on the cradle or the Palm itself are just dirty enough to not let a proper charge through, the battery in the Palm has a metal case around it, this is a factory one as far as I know.
@@nickfatsis9607 Sounds like the factory one. I think you are right and its probably just a bad connection somewhere along the way - hope you get it sorted!
Such an amazing era… I wish devices these day were as diverse and cool as back then

Nice gear. This was the last one I had with the keyboard before I jumped over to Blackberry for work.
The add on keyboard is really nice too use too I never moved to Blackberry but the keyboards do look good, might have to add it to my wanted list!
I loved all my palm handhelds! Still use one for backup of my personal data, reading books, listening music, playing Klondike. ;)
They are great devices, so simple to use, I still have memos on mine from 20+ years ago as they make a great place to store bits of info!
10:01 wow this looks SO COOL

You forget to showcase the inverted green text, it's a really cool feature
It is a cool feature especially when reading in the dark! I found it very difficult to image the backlight properly 😞
For what the purpose to use that palm
Diary, organiser, ebook, Gameboy, replace your TV remote, just for fun 😉
What do u meant replace tv as remote. How.
End gameboy also.. how
Interesting that your Palm V has a "Application" pad, some of them have a house icon.
