The background for J Hope goes so much further. I didn’t know anything about him and just seeing the reaction from his fanbase is really incredible. From what I understand (please correct me if I’m wrong), this served as a farewell (for now) song for J Hope to his fans as he is about to enlist for his obligatory military duties. To have Cole on this track is huge obviously because of how much he inspired him. J Hope apparently started as a street dancer, so him giving a large portion of the track to Cole while he could dance to it during the music video was just him kind of paying homage to his roots. I’m sure there’s more that I’m missing, but it’s just a feel good track and Cole is really special for making this a reality.
You're correct, basically an appreciation for his roots in where he started his musical journey and the fans. Also, his first mixtape hope world is also a homage to J. Cole.
That is absolutely correct! J Hope was saying goodbye to us for now but also has worshipped J Cole so this is emotional on all levels. As someone who loves BTS but didn’t know anything about J Cole, I am blown away by his rap. I see now why he is so revered! ❤
You got it exactly right! But I would personally take it a small step further, and point out that JHope was dancing underground in the subway, as his idol was rapping on the rooftop (a literal interpretation of his past as you mentioned, with Hope being an underground street dancer who looked up to Cole). By the end of the music video, JHope and Cole meet face-to-face, almost signifying Hope breaking through the cultural barriers and literally millions of nay-sayers to meet his idol on a level playing field, both of them at the top of their game, with both of them showing respect to the other. Also, just a side note, I truly appreciate that you went to so much effort to understand Hope's side of it. Not many people outside the fandom would bother, so huge appreciation that you did.
The beat and Song is composed by J-Hope/Hobi and Produced by his in-own Producer Pdogg, he got Coles lines 4 days before he shot the MV (he said it on a Live Stream) J Hope is joining the Korean Military Soon, it's Mandatory for Koreans, so this was his goodbye Gift for Fans. He used to dance to J Cole's Songs when he was still a Street Dancer, and after a listen to Friday Night Lights, he started writing songs and making his own Beats. He even named his first Mix Tape Hope-World after Cole-World. That's also the reason he gave Jermaine so many bars in his Song, he did out of respect. Recommend Checking out his Album Jack in the Box, it's a Hip Hop Album with lots of 90s Style Beats and crazy lyrics. Songs that i recommend, Arson, More, Stop, What if (he sampled ODB on that one), Airplane and Daydream.
I’m not a K-pop fan but I did see something saying that this is J-Hopes last song for now cause he’s joining the military. So knowing that and hearing Coles verse made it more of a sad song than a happy song to me. It’s good vibes tho
The thing is when it comes to BTS and the members of BTS we don't really like to refer to them as kpop as it puts them into a box that they outgrew a long time ago. Most BTS fans I know don't even really like kpop music in general. Like when people think of kpop they don't think a song would sound like this. And BTS roots as a group is hip hop and 2 of the members were underground rappers in South Korea before joining BTS.
Total bittersweet :( did you see the last hook, on the billboard it says “it’s my call” (for the military) 😢😢😢… can’t wait to see hobi in 18 months. And also great to see the reactions of 2 fandom from BTS and j Cole coming together…: so wholesome
@@blupand4 it could be that or the “it’s my call” sign is about him finding his true passion which is dancing and making music. And who is Jhope’s biggest music influence from the very beginning? It’s Cole.
@@ruthlessrays9761 oh!! That’s a good point. Thanks 🙏… also, did you notice that in the beginning when he sing “every time I walk, he’s walking on “walker st” and that’s a one way street. I’m thinking he’s saying that he’s walking on his journey and there’s only one way, and that’s going forward. I might be reaching at the point LOL but you never know with BTS songs 😂
You asked if it's common for Jhope to rap in Korean, then English and back again. Yes absolutely, and thanks for noting his skills. He's also an amazing dancer... one of a kind. I hope you guys will check out his earlier work... he's mainly into melodic rap but he can spit bars too! True, BTS has always looked up to J Cole and even wrote a song called Born Singer, inspired by Born Sinner. Jhope makes me so proud... thanks very much for your positive reaction 💜
Maybe, that's why JHope is doing this song. No one understands an artist better than his loyal fan. Don't worry, any artist who collab with BTS find inspiration again because of the passion they have for music even after a decade.
@@Super_Chamchi. I was coming to say this too and I'm so looking forward to the cold play type doc videos ( behind the scene) of on the street with jcole
@@VibeVilla React to BORN SINGER if you like J.COLE. A lot of J.Cole fan watch Born singer too. THis is the link: ua-cam.com/video/8cUQ3lF3_O8/v-deo.html
Ahhhh. The pause to stop and talk about how the song turned bittersweet and y'all aren't ready is exactly what you're supposed to feel. This is j-hope's "bye for now" song to the fans. I can tell J. Cole put a lot of thought and care into every line he wrote and delivered to fit the mood. We ARMYs are going through it, too, as each BTS member has enlistment and solo journeys over the next couple years. There's a lot of reflecting on roots, where they've been, and what they still want to accomplish. j-hope was actually the first member to release an official solo album last summer, and his two singles from that album--More and Arson--both explore the same landscape that Cole did in his verse. Really appreciate your thoughtful reaction! If you ever decide to check out more Korean rap and hip-hop, I know you will have plenty of recommendations in the comments!
And actually such timing Jcole has also voiced out that he is planning on retiring soon and I see why he feels similar with the sentiment on jhope's song too.. honoring the roots and the new path
Check out the reaction on the itsandyandjas channel. They speak very good English and Korean and they know j-hope's history. So they're one of the best channels for actually breaking down Korean bars, so you can fully appreciate the wordplay and symbolism. They break down a lot of BTS stuff, including all 3 of the rappers from BTS (RM, j-hope, and SUGA). They constantly pointing out stuff that I totally missed.
Just before this I saw a reaction by a very ignorant guy who basically trashed Jhope’s parts and made little racist comments disguised as jokes. You guys are a breath of fresh air and open minded, great video.
i think i know which one you mean. he said he apologized and i watched the second reaction. the apology was meh imo. first he's disrespectful but then continues to react? bc he saw how much armys interacted with that video? with other videos? idk but the second reaction was the last one for me. this one is really nice, almost feels like a breeze of fresh air.
This is my first time seeing you guys react to anything and you’re both great! As a BTS fan, I appreciate you giving us a little insight into J Cole. It’s also important to note that J Hope started as an underground hip hop dancer in Korea before he joined BTS and has always said how he used to dance and be inspired by J Cole. The fact that he let J Cole just go as he danced away in the train station is a nod to his beginnings. ❤ J Hope is entering the military (every male in South Korea must serve) coupled with J Cole’s contemplating hanging it up makes this collab even more special ❤
my thoughts exactly! I didn't know this info about J-hope so thank you for sharing. I'm so glad I stumbled on this video because I had not heard of J Cole before. What a special collaboration indeed.
As jhope started his career dancing in the streets, being inspired by jcole, I love the meaning of the music video as well when jhope is dancing underground to jcoles verse as he stands on the roof, and at the end he meets him at the top. So much symbolism in the video and song this is a beautiful collaboration.
Even thought most BTS members aren't super fluent in english they all write their own lyrics, including their english part and yes it takes A LOT of skill, it's hard since korean and english are very different languages, BTS' leader and main lyricist in the group, RM, has talked about how difficult this is when making songs but they all pull it off so well. Please check BTS rap line, they are such amazing rappers and lyricists, the group is amazing too, please give them a chance, don't miss out on great artists like them!!!! J-hope most recent solo album is called Jack in the box and it's so good, tracks like "Arson" go crazy, he raps his ass off, y'all won't believe it. As for BTS' rap line pls check songs like hip hop phile, cypher pt 2 or cypher pt 3 !!!! Loved this reaction, wanna see more of u guys reacting to BTS, pls give them a chance!
@@dannn-i agreed! And lots of J Hope’s verses require background literature knowledge since his dad is a lit professor and he’s so well-read. One thing I love about him! I was so excited when the Daydream video had obvious Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy references 😂
Thanks you for your respectful and friendly reaction. So, j-hope wrote the melody, he actually whistled it first, so it's him whistling here. It was produced by his in-house producer pdogg. J-hope really loves J. Cole, his 2018 mixtape Hope World hints at J. Cole as well.
your reactions was so appreciative, open-minded with nuanced nice comments. jcole is blessed with some really nice fans, i especially loved how much care you guys took to feel the lyrics and what's behind them. i would actually love to see jcole link up with bts once more in the future. someone might have already told you guys but the band actually re-made their own version for born sinner as a song titled as born singer years and years ago, and jcole even gave his permission for credits later on so they were able to put the song as an opener on their currently last, anthology album. i don't know but i just feel like jcole is exactly the kind of amazing, inspiring artist bts as a band or even just members separately would love to work with more in the future. i hope your wishes come true and he reconsiders stepping down from making music because he's such a wonderful artist. also as a last thought, i would love to see you guys check out and react to some more bts songs in the future. maybe get a taster for what is know as their "rap line". 3 members, all having their own style and body of work. i could tell you guys are the type who appreciate rich lyrical messages and tbh the rap line of bts might just be the kind of gems you wouldn't mind giving a glance to. i know it as fact their body of work speak for themselves. but even if you guys won't, still thanks for this reaction. it had a really nice vibe.
@@immealldayeveryday9425 I don't necessarily believe in God as a divine entity who guides us or controls the function of the world/universe. We came from somewhere obviously, but was it a God that created us, a figure in ultimate control, or simply an energy source that is beyond our human capability to see or feel. I think people that utterly believe in one divine creator are as extreme as those who believe we came from absolutely nothing. Just my opinion though.
@@brownsey1 you could say that but if you rly think abt it thats just moving the goal post, and tbf you can do that forever, like "where does that energy come from"? where things just always existing, moving or did things just pop out of nothing sometime? its interesting to ponder but ultimately youre not gonna get anywhere which is why its a question of belief
@@mikeesteves8427 For me personally I don't need to believe in a God to be comfortable in the fact there's potentially a higher source of power out there that I can't fathom and we all came from. This is why I wouldn't outright crap on someone for having a particular belief because, as you say, you can always go back further and further to find a creation point. However, I just think it's equally crazy for someone to say with 100% certainty that there is a God that has manipulated everything. I'm not outright atheist, suppose I'm agnostic if you want to label me, I just don't think we're guided by a higher power. That's not to say there isn't something that we all simply merge into 😅 I'm in between 😂

being a fan of kpop and rap music it always has me nervous when there’s a crossover and other people start checking it out. but i got faith in my boy hobi, i know he goes hard lmfao. this song does give goodbye vibes because this is going to be jhope’s last song before he goes off to the military. in korea, all men have a mandatory 2 year military thing they have to serve so this is kind of a send off for him. also it’s very common in korean music for rappers to mix korean with english. i guess they just go off the vibes yknow
Did you see that No Life Shaq checked this out? I know exactly what you mean about being nervous for that rap crossover cause the anticipation of that reaction had me sweatin a lil. 😂 But if they appreciate a good music, I got faith that it'll go well. 💜
@@Ali-OT7ARMY i didn’t omg imma check that one out next. but yeah it always scares me 💀 like when joon had erykah badu and anderson paak on his last mixtape i was so excited but i’m like bro .. pls nobody do my guy dirty i promise it’s a great song 💀💀
J-hope is a massive fan of J. Cole and BTS even has a rendition of Born Sinner called Born Singer. It’s an homage to J.Cole and it was done about ten years ago. He calls J. Cole his muse so getting to work with him before enlisting in the army is huge. BTS and most Korean groups do usually sing/rap in both English and Korean and sometimes Japanese as well. He danced while Cole was rapping because he wanted to “go back to his roots” as he was a street dancer before joining BTS. I’m honestly really happy with how respectful the majority of j. Cole’s fan base has been. Every time BTS collabs with a western artist, we as fans have to be prepared for the rude comments, thanks for reacting 💜
it blowns my mind that two artists that are leaving the music scene ( hobi for a while ) got together to say goodbye to their community. So sad and so meaningful. They deserve that #1
I’m both a cole and hope fan, and both of them made me feel bittersweet because both of them might be leaving for a while soon, and Cole is Hopes idol, so this song was literally like hearing their stories it’s just a masterpiece, and the sounds and everything was just perfect
Bro I cried when I heard that "let her grow" part. I related it to some of the stuff I love that I've been holding on to stubbornly. Shout out J. Cole and j-hope.
The young man in white hoodie mentioned about the gap was spot on. Jhope has started preparations his 18 months mandatory conscription. This song is a gift to Army and what better way to say farewell than a single with his muse, Jcole. I’ve been a BTS fan since 2019 and when I went back to watch contents from the beginning of their career in 2013, Hobi (fan nickname for Jhope) has always mentioned about Jcole’s influence in his songwriting ability. I started listening to Jcole because of Hobi. This song is his homecoming. What an amazing gift. Please continue to support the official music video. Thank you.
The bts rappers write bilingual rap and makes it rhyme in both languages. And yes almost all their songs have this particular feature... its an extremely difficult thing to do but they do it. Yesss you guys got it... this song is for the fans.
Exactly. It's especially difficult because Korean has a different grammatical structure than English so when they try to mix the languages in their lyrics, in addition to rhyming, they're also trying to make it sound cohesive and not awkward in either language.
@@chelleybelle77 I totally agree with you. I'm bilingual(KOR&ENG) and the grammar structures are VERY different. There is even special grammar (we call it 'helping-verb/postposition') which doesn't even exist in English grammar..😅. We say words in different order like "I yesterday simple meal ate" which means "I ate simple meal yesterday". So imagine how hard it would be write lyrics in Korean and English back and forth🤯
Jhope usually raps in Korean with English phrases mixed in there at times. But yeah it’s so cool I’m a fan of both Cole and hobi so I was really excited for this link up. Jhope and all the other rappers in bts (there’s 3 of them) can all rap their asses off but jcole honestly never disappoints or takes these features lightly and I completely agree with what y’all said I’ve been thinking recently how Cole has a different feel to him like he’s reached a different status and when I look at his previous projects it’s only right tbh. anyways I was really happy for Jhope as he looks up to him so much.
I remember finding this one song called "Monster" by RM, or Rap Monster, where he raps to Cole's Grown Simba instrumental. Initially, I thought it was him in this until I heard j-hopes voice. If I'm not mistaken, RM is also a part of BTS, according to a quick Google search. It's crazy how much Cole's impact extends out into the world. Cole World no blanket, son! All day. Also, with this verse and the one in Adonis Interlude, it seems like we might get The Fall Off this year?
@@birdsfly7199 he also just released a banger called Yun featuring erykah Badu and a song called still life with Anderson paak., and he did a collab with Wale in 2017
Really cool to see J-Cole fans also enjoying the vibe of the song. As a fan of BTS, and in this case a fan of J-Hope, I'm really happy that he got the opportunity to make a song with his idol. If you guys have the opportunity to react to more J-Hope videos, I would recommend his latest songs More, and Arson. I'm sure you will be amazed by his musical talent.
Great reaction and the parallels between the two of them at this particular moment is bittersweet for fans of both artists. This a a see you later gift from Hobi (j-hope) and a really lovely homage to an artist that inspired him. When I think about it, he does that a lot actually. This one was just so heartfelt and not about competition of who has the better verse but this was made with a lot of love and respect for the influence he had in j-hope’s life. I really appreciate not only that J. Cole took a chance to step outside of his usual circles but also really brought powerful lyrics to this moment. Side note: the video you were thinking of is Simba. j-hope’s style is really versatile but a few solo songs I would recommend would be Safety Zone, Arson and STOP.
It was surprising to see Cole featured on a korean artist song, it's pretty big for the music industry, hopefully korean artist get more recognition and we start to see more collabs like this in the future because it was really dope. You guys should react to some of the tracks on the last j-hope's album "Jack in the Box", all the songs are great but "Arson" is incredible.
Thanks for giving it a listen! I appreciate you guys being open and accepting to j-hope and also for dissecting every single Cole bar, it really hit me hard cause I’m not ready for him to go at ALL. Every listen it gets so much better too it’s crazy. I think you’d like BTS cyphers, the BTS rappers solo discographies and their song hip-hop phile! BTS are MAJOR major hip hop fans, just a recommendation for you to check out! Thanks again, we appreciate it :)
J Cole- Simba, is where this video inspiration comes from. Now put that song, in context with everything that's since happened too Cole, and what is currently happening to J Hope, and the music video is Cole getting his Flowers! This is pure art!
Loved to get a nuanced reaction from JCole fans. Englishs not my first language so some of your comments on Coles lines helped me get a better understanding! Thank you guy's for that!
You guys are always so respectful, yes I have watched your few videos,em’s album reactions, loved your analysis and how you pay attention to every single detail,I am so happy to see you react to this song,it’s like my two world colliding even if it’s for j.cole 😊 Y’all are really genuine,so keep up the good work and give BTS a chance if you want to 💜
Thank you for being open to JHope… this song means a lots to us ARMY… you are not ready to say goodbye to Jermaine.. we are not ready to say goodbye to our Hobi😢
15:45 Love that you picked up on what "I do this for us" means. I don't know J-Cole well, but I am a BTS (J-Hope's 7 member band) fan and the connection they have with their fans is deep and loyal. It's common in Korean music for there to be "fandoms" and names for fans. BTS has Army and they often say that Army (or their fans) are the 8th member of the band. BTS debuted in 2013 with a small independant label (outside of the Big 3 stronghold of the industry) that was on the brink of bankruptcy, and really struggled with mainstream promotion and industry disrespect, but because of their early internet content production and immediate/intimate fan connection Army were the ones voting, calling music shows and radio, and just being their biggest hype to get them to where they are today. But now because of mandatory 18 month military service for Koreans men, they are on hiatus at the moment with 1 member already serving. This track is J-Hope's (Jung Ho Seok) farewell message to his fans...leaving them in love, the bittersweetness of it, but also with the hope that in 2025 when all members are done with service they will be back...because they always consider their fans with every decision they make.
Yes "Hobi" is one of the 3 rappers in BTS. He is a fantastic dancer and an incredible performer. He did an hour at Lollapalooza and it was Fire!!!! They are amazing, rapping in Korean, English and Japanese! He used to do lives just freestyling called Hope on the street, really fantastic dancer. BTS did a song a long while ago "Born singer" inspired by "Born sinner". It was fantastic.
Jhope pretty much always combines English and Korean. So does everyone else in BTS, whether it’s their solo music or as a group. The only exception really is their Japanese songs. In that case, they combine English and Japanese. The English lyrics are usually more basic than the Korean lyrics because they’re more limited in their vocabulary. Only one member (RM) speaks fluent English.
JCole has been J-Hope key inspirational force his whole career. This is the "goodbye for now" song before he leaves for enlistment. I am so very proud of him and thankful That Jermaine was willing to work with him
Aaaah dudes I just found you via this reaction, and as a big BTS and j-hope fan it's a real pleasure to have new people discover them and their musical talent. All seven members are talented in their own rights so there's something for everyone. I'm not much a pop fan, my roots like in 80s-90s metal and hiphop and I'm OBSESSED with their music. j-hope chose his stage name after his hero J Cole when he debuted in BTS in 2013. His first mixtape was called Hope World (it's so good, he released ir for free, go check it out). He began in this hometown of Gwangju as a street dancer, won national competitions before giving up school to move to Seoul the capital to join BTS and dance and rap full time. His roots are hiphop and street dance. So this was a dream come true as a collab for j-hope. Now we have J Cole who is also saying goodbye, bringing his amazing lyrical flow on the track too, and this track is j-hope's goodbye to BTS' fans called Army as he's about to enlist in th Korean military for their mandatory military service. We're all sad cos these guys have brought billions into the SK economy, spoken at the White House and United Nations, done so much good in the world and yet aren't exempt from having to go to the army for a couple of years. So it's bittersweet to receive this track both if you're a fan of J Cole or of j-hope or both, goodbyes are never easy. And I love that you picked up on the nostalgic feel and not wanting it to be over. Me neither! Yes they switch between Korean and English which is SO GOOD for our brains and lyrical flow! If you guys have Disney+ you can check out the documentary j-hope filmed last year where he prepared for his solo debut headlining Lollapalooza, where he met J Cole too, and you'll learn a lot about j-hope and his work ethic too, I really recommend it I think you'll love it. Army will watch along with you if you wanna react to it! BTS has 3 rappers: j-hope, RM and Suga, check out their flow they're all amazing lyricists producers and musicians. Welcome! 💜
This is about hope back to his roots . Underground rapping and dancing . Why he is underground in subway . J-HOPE is a solo artist too and has albums out since 2018. He is a ropper, song writer , composer , producer and dancer to name a few !
What a great reaction, thank you! I loved that you called out “as always, for us” because that is 100% a sentiment meant for ARMY when Hobi sings it. It’s really special to hear that it’s something shared between J Cole and his fans as well. Thanks again, guys! 💜
Thank you for this respectful and honest reaction. It IS bittersweet. The BTS members are leaving for the military one by one and this time j-hope, hobi, our sun, our hope… he‘s letting us go for now, and we have to let him go. BTS and their fandom have a special relationship. And seeing hobi dancing underground to j coles verse, seeing them meeting on the rooftop, it is so heartwarming and meaningful.
Absolute best reaction I've seen to this song. I learned a lot about J. Cole (who I didn't know before BTS) and now his verse really hits different for me. Thank you! I hope you check out more j-hope and BTS. I"m a big fan of their rapline (3 members - including jhope). The Cyphers 1 - 4 and Tear are my favorite rapline songs.
The fact that they weren't ready for jcole to retire,, I could feel them cause I'm not ready for jhope to go as well..this song was definitely a farewell song from both of them
It's really awesome that you guys feel the bittersweetness of J.Cole's gentle beginning of a farewell - I'm a J-hope fan and his words in this song convey the exact same thing: a wish goodbye, because he has to leave for a while to join the Korean military. Knowing that they both have something to say goodbye to, to leave behind, makes it feel like they're seeing us off into next phase of our lives, and it feels so meaningful. It's awesome that they were able to join together at this exact moment in time to share their message. It's the perfect moment for both of them.
i'm a bts fan who's seen a ton of reactions to this song but u guys are the first i subscribed to. because i've heard of j cole but never listened to his music and hearing u speak so reverently about him makes me curious to go down this rabbit hole of discovering his music with u. so imma go and binge ur j cole videos now :)
I've been watching your channel a while and I've always loved your reactions, one of my favs being the one of the Daytona Pusha album so it's kind of crazy seeing this crossover to my other passion which is Korean rap, hip-hop and pop. Thanks for reacting to this! For some more context: Many of the BTS members are huge J. Cole fans - RM in his first mix tape track "Monster" sampled Grown Simba, J-Hope says his favourite song of all time is Higher from Friday Night Lights and obviously his name is an homage, BTS did their own version of "Born Sinner" called "Born Singer" which J. Cole let them include in their "Proof" anthology album and Suga thanked him for clearing the sample so their fans could have it on the album. There's lots of other rap homage in the rap line - they've worked with lots of western rappers and sampled people like Run The Jewels, etc. but the short of it is that J-Hope and the rest of BTS are big hip hop fans and they appreciate the music and the culture!
I appreciate this reaction a lot, since you are clearly hip-hop/rap reactors. I'm a j-hope fan. This is my first time to watch your reaction video. Thanks for your input on this video, especially on the J. Cole verses, and giving j-hope fans a different perspective from the usual BTS reactors. I love this song so much and I can clearly see why J. Cole is respected in the rap community and why j-hope looks up to him. The first time I saw this video, I was immediately blown away by Cole's first 2 bars and how he was riding that hook. He's clearly very talented and intelligent. This collab is so special. I also want to give props to j-hope for letting this song and video be all about the message. j-hope can actually go hard when it comes to rapping and dancing freestyle. He's a very gifted dancer, but he chose to just vibe with the song as Cole was rapping, instead of going all out in the popping and locking, etc. He didn't use it as an opportunity to show off. It's just a pure homage to his muse, J. Cole, and to his roots, his journey and his fans. I also appreciate your breakdown of the video. I learned a lot from you guys. Thank you!!!
Jhope was a dancer first before he became a rapper. Jcole is his ultimate musical inspiration since the beginning. He danced to a lot of his songs and mentioned Jcole in their earlier songs and now seeing Jhope just dancing on top of the beat while his muse is rapping in his OWN song makes it even more special. I’m beyond proud of Jhope. You guys can check out ‘Hiphop phile’ lyrics by BTS, Jhope mentioned Cole there.
Our sunshine Hobi Always makes me surprise and happy I love Hobi's dance and rap song This song is so beautiful I love Hobi's voice colors Thank you for your reaction
The BTS Army really appreciated your open mind towards JHope. Some Army who didn't know JCole are enjoying a new artist, and really loving the respect these two show each other.
English is not my first language so i really appreciate the insight of what JCole might be conveying in his rap and the references. I am an ARMY (bts' fan name) myself so the moment i listened to this song, i could hear the bittersweetness and gratitude and a touch of hope so you guys saying all the stuff about JCole really connecting with this song made it 100 times more special since both of these artists had a lot of thoughts about their career and people who supported them so far. It's heatwarming. Wishing for JCole and Jhope the best and a "see you soon" in their careers.
most of us can only imagine paying homage to your icon or even if you actually created something, most of us wouldn't be able to even perform that with our actual icon .. but Hobi's journey allowed him to be able to create something that his actual icon performed with him and that is just amazing and inspiring. i love the fact that you guys also noticed that the song is definitely bitter sweet as mentioned by most of the comments here, he will be serving his country and will return by 2025 ..
Forever thankful that this collab happened. Cole was and is such an inspiration for Hobi, literally has a Hope World song, used that tag earlier in his career. So this was like a full circle moment for Hobi. The guts it took to dance more and not rap, because that his first love - even though I’m sure he was aware of the different eyes this will bring to him and bangtan. I wish for more people to listen to their songs - to the rap line if hip hop is your thing because the lyrics are so good.
He was dancing underground while J. Cole was rapping on the rooftop, and in the end, Jhope comes to meet Jcole at the top. This may represents J-Hope's journey from the bottom to the worldwide top, from the time when he danced to J. Cole's rap even before joining BTS to the day when he can make music with his muse. He even gave Jcole more part to show his respect even it's his song. Given all his hard work and passion throughout his whole life, I'm so proud of him and happy for him : ) *Why don't you check BTS once? They are the biggest band in the world for a reason and it's worth checking them at least once. I'm sure it will not be waste of your time. If you had no prejudice, you would meet the whole new world. Let's go to "Mic drop" and "On(Kinetic manifesto film)" with Eng CC!!!
This was such a genuine and amazing reaction to watch. I got very emotional watching your admiration and devotion to J Cole’s lyrics and you were very kind and respectful to J Hope !
This is my favorite reaction yet so far. To see Cole and JHope collab was so beautiful to us the fanbase because they met last year at Coachella and to now have a collab with him? He called Cole his muse! either way as a fan of both, this is truly the best of both worlds. The lyricism, the beat, the vibe, just the overall song, that duet at the end! It's such a deeply personal song to both and they killed it. I'm glad y'all can appreciate it as well.
You guys were so respectful and made all the right connections! If you're interested in hearing what j-hope sounds like when he raps with the other members of BTS, I recommend checking out Mic Drop (Steve Aoki Remix).
Yes, I too think where J Hope is dancing reminds me of where the Danger mv was filmed. BTW, that is J Hope whistling throughout the song. Thanks for your reaction 💜
Thank you for such a lovely reaction and your respect towards our Hope (his nickname Hobi is pronounced Hoe-bee, you got it the 2nd time -- it's a cute nickname related to how "Hope" is pronounced and spelled in Korean. Most of his fans, the BTS ARMY, call him "Hobi" and he's embraced it). j-hope and all of the members of the BTS rap line have a strong, respectful background in hip-hop. They idolize artists like Nas, J. Cole, A$AP, Kendrick Lamar, etc. If you're willing, check out their song "Hip Hop Phile" where they pay homage to their idols and inspirations. It's mostly in Korean, but you can easily pick up their cadences, flows, rhyme schemes etc. Just turn on the closed captions! Even better to check out a live performance, they're always better live! Their lyrics and skills are undeniable. Hobi specifically started out in street dance (his skills are incredible) and learned to rap a bit later. He's known for his musicality in rap (he "bounces" on the beat), ability to switch between rapping and singing, and stage presence (he's phenomenal). Switching between English and Korean is common in their rapping, they also rap in Japanese, and he has a song with Becky G that incorporates her rapping in Spanish (Chicken Noodle Soup). Truly Global! J. Cole doing this song with Hobi was so meaningful for him and us. Literally a dream come true. Cole's verse is awesome, and he got 32 bars as a feature (and ate all of them). It was a show of respect. Hope you decide to check out more of j-hope and/or BTS's rapping. j-hope performed at Lollapalooza in Summer 2022 and the performance is on UA-cam, or any of his other solo stuff, including Jack in the Box which incorporates rock elements and old-school boom-bap beats. The singles are "More" and "Arson" -- again, it's in mostly-Korean, but subtitles on!
I loved this!!! As a fan of j Hope and j Cole, this song was so exciting and emotional and full of surprises! I loved your respect for Hobi, the recognition of his talent, he is such a special person. Your video was so good, you guys showed the feelings we were all having. Thank you!
Love this reaction and the thoughtful, intelligent comments. I can tell you are both music enthusiasts who appreciates good music. As a BTS Fan, I feel you when you said you're not ready to say goodbye to your favourite artist. This song is J-hope's gift to his fans before he enlist in the military so you are in good company. Based on how much respect you have and talked about Cole, it made me want to check out his music now. I like his rapping and the message behind it. This is really a great collaboration. I'm so glad that J-hope & Cole made this happen as I get introduced to other great artists.
Love your analysis on this!! You had asked about j-hope switching between Korean and English… yes this is normal. A lot of Korean artists do this. Sometimes the reasoning and word choices might come down to the fact that an English word might flow better or have a stronger meaning than a Korean word (or the other way around). There’s many reasons for why they switch back and forth. But it’s very common. Takes a lot of skill to do that. Consider listening to more j-hope content… I think you’ll love it!
Really appreciate you watching and doing some research ahead of time! As BTS ARMY and a j-hope fan, this is such an inspiring collab...J.Cole was a HUGE an inspiration to j-hope, this is amazing to see. Much appreciation for both artists. Thanks for your respectful take.
Pain. It's more of a thank you and see you again than a goodbye cause Hobi is about to enlist. I agree with yall on JCole's verse and I cant even cause he's my fave
THANK YOU SO MUCH for the review 💜 I am so happy that you respected Jhope and it might sound weird when I say it like that because you were hyped over JCole but it was nice to see you respect him because you have no idea how badly they(Jhope and his group BTS) are treated by the music industry and many YT reactors so it's a nice change.
From a BTS ARMY thank you for diving deeper into this. We love Hobi so much and we're getting closer to a time he'll be away from us for a while. 18+ months of military service is coming up for him as well as the other members. BTS has their own "crowns" they've had to set aside for now, and they have a lot of anxiety about losing the love of ARMY in the time that they are on their military hiatus. I feel like J. Cole's verse really encapsulated how not just j-hope feels but all of BTS feels about their music making process at this point in their career and what is coming in the future. It's a beautiful collab and a sweet message to ARMY. Also, we think the kiddo at the beginning represents our fandom saying goodbye for now.
Korea has mandatory military service for all able bodied men, ages 18-28, for 18mos, however, the government made an exception for BTS to prolong until they’re 30; but this song is a gift for US (BTS fans called ARMY)…as it is time for JHope’s enlistment. This is his last song before he leaves. I don’t know how much Cole’s verse plays into that, tho! He may be speaking for himself or as a voice for JHope leaving us for his service!💜
The fact that y'all are looking up J-Hope and loving him regardless of whether y'all know BTS or not is beyond me. All of y'all are amazing! J-Hope aka Hobi is an incredible dancer, singer, rapper, his voice is majestic, his dancing is beautiful. He's just the amazing sunshine in BTS but beautiful solo artist also when he does his own. He's definitely definitely the sunshine we all need.
Hey! J Cole has been inspiring BTS since the very beginning of their career. He's not only J-Hope's idol. His lyrical flow style influenced all three of the rappers in BTS. J Cole released "Born Sinner" on June 3, 2013. Ten days later, BTS debuted to the world. In the middle of all the promotions and appearances that go along with a debut, they wrote a cover/remake of Born Sinner called "Born Singer". It was not on any album, just an unofficial song they put on Soundcloud for free, but they did perform it at their earliest concerts. Fast forward to 2022, when BTS released an anthology of their biggest hits and favorite B-sides. The first song on that massive 3-disc collection? It was not one of the new songs on the album. It was not their best-selling song. It was not the one with the most awards. It was Born Singer. Respect for J Cole is real for BTS. If you want to see them perform it, there is a "recorded live" performance on their channel: ua-cam.com/users/live9sJ_I1lHpps?feature=share This is a 3-song "mini concert" that starts with "Born Singer" followed by the two new singles from the anthology. The second song features Anderson Paak. on drums. He's a good friend of theirs. That's followed by an interview, and the last song is at the end.
I'm a BTS fan (aka ARMY) and this is my first time to your channel. Such an insightful reaction! I really enjoyed it and learning more about J Cole. Thank you!
since you like Jcole, check out BTS’s cover of Born Sinner best video has got to be a stage mix video (a edit of two performances together). They originally did the cover in 2013, but in 2015 they performed it and then they performed it again in 2017… in both performances they changed the lyrics to follow more of who they were in the moment. [just turn on CC/subtitles]
some info BTS is a 7-member boy group under Big Hit Music, they debuted on June 13th, 2013. They have 3 rappers and 4 vocalist (they all dance, fun fact: Jhope was an underground dancer and the two other rappers [RM and Suga] were underground rappers before BTS). while you might want to compare the rappers of the group, many fans (called ARMY) have been saying one thing to distinguish their styles by something other than their voice RM: lyricism & poetry Suga: Delivery & feeling JHope: Rhythm & flow RM analyzes the world Suga critiques it and Jhope visualizes it each member stands alone as great artist in their own right, they have their individual sounds. But when together they make art.
J Hope started as a young boy Jeong Hoseok in Korea dancing to J Cole. Now he is dancing on the streets again to J Cole doing his thing. Starting from the bottom (Literally. The subway) to the top (Again, literally, a roof top). A full circle before he left to join the military (mandatory for 18 months). Meeting his idol, the man who started him writing music. Paying tribute to him. J Cole is one among many US rappers who formed the DNA of BTS’ rap line (RM, J Hope, Suga / Agust D).
I loved your reaction. They were sincere and I could feel what you felt. I've seen different reactions to the song and I've also seen the video countless times. I loved watching you an Army for you 💜💜
so good to see a crossover between two great artist with different nationalities and fanbases. I really enjoyed this piece of art. You guys are great at enlightening every thought to every verse.
I absolutely love your reaction. You both were SO open and honest to our Hobi and came through with an open mind. I hope you check out more BTS related content and especially the rap line in BTS. I think you all will enjoy the rap line a lot. I look forward to more videos!! And also thank you for pausing to talk so you didn’t miss anything! Lol
I’m sure there’s more that I’m missing, but it’s just a feel good track and Cole is really special for making this a reality.
you got it all right!
You're totally right! Also BTS mentioned J.Cole in their song "Hip-Hop file" as one of their biggest inspiration.

And BTS roots as a group is hip hop and 2 of the members were underground rappers in South Korea before joining BTS.
yeah def bittersweet on both ends :(
Total bittersweet :( did you see the last hook, on the billboard it says “it’s my call” (for the military) 😢😢😢… can’t wait to see hobi in 18 months.

As jhope started his career dancing in the streets, being inspired by jcole, I love the meaning of the music video as well when jhope is dancing underground to jcoles verse as he stands on the roof, and at the end he meets him at the top. So much symbolism in the video and song this is a beautiful collaboration.

I caught that to, I actually agree with Cole, how can you not believe in god when the evidence is all around us
@@immealldayeveryday9425 I don't necessarily believe in God as a divine entity who guides us or controls the function of the world/universe. We came from somewhere obviously, but was it a God that created us, a figure in ultimate control, or simply an energy source that is beyond our human capability to see or feel. The bts rappers write bilingual rap and makes it rhyme in both languages.
And yes almost all their songs have this particular feature... its an extremely difficult thing to do but they do it.
Yesss you guys got it... this song is for the fans.
Exactly. It's especially difficult because Korean has a different grammatical structure than English so when they try to mix the languages in their lyrics, in addition to rhyming, they're also trying to make it sound cohesive and not awkward in either language.
to be correct, Kpop does this too, but it often sounds like they just needed to fill some rhyming words, while BTS makes sense and is sophisticated

Side note: the video you were thinking of is Simba.
j-hope’s style is really versatile but a few solo songs I would recommend would be Safety Zone, Arson and STOP.
this a long time coming, few years back BTS had a version of JCole's Born Sinner called Born Singer. Jhope shouts out Cole in BTS song Hip Hop Lover.
React to the Born Singer they shot live outside of Vegas with Pak Anderson on drums (different song of the set)
Thankyou so so SO MUCH for not being closeminded like a bunch of other youtubers here towards jhope🙏🏻❤️
I agree that J Cole has been on another level recently. He truly is a poet! Thank you, great reaction, gentlemen!
You guys are always so respectful, yes I have watched your few videos,em’s album reactions, loved your analysis and how you pay attention to every single detail,I am so happy to see you react to this song,it’s like my two world colliding even if it’s for j.cole 😊
Y’all are really genuine,so keep up the good work and give BTS a chance if you want to 💜
Thank you for being open to JHope… this song means a lots to us ARMY… you are not ready to say goodbye to Jermaine.. we are not ready to say goodbye to our Hobi😢
Jhope is an insanely talented musician and rapper 👌👍💜
Only one member (RM) speaks fluent English.
aww i loved your reaction! it felt genuine thank you for reacting to jhope, i hope you react to more!
What I really appreciate is your research before even watchingg
I don't watch you always but for that reason, I respect y'all 🔥
Respect!
This had me in tears hearing J Hope story. He will be back and stronger 💙💛💙🌟🌠
It’s beautiful seeing these worlds collide, coming full circle all these years later. So poetic
The Cyphers 1 - 4 and Tear are my favorite rapline songs.
what a nice reaction. i loved your takes on jcoles part
Thank you for checking this out. Let us know if you have any questions about Jhope or BTS....ARMY is always happy to inform!
we're always ready lmaoo.... the rabbit hole stays hungry
the alleyway is from J. Cole’s “Simba” one of his first music videos on youtube
Love to my GLOBAL ARMY FAMILY! From 🇬🇧💜
Jhope was a dancer first before he became a rapper.
Our sunshine Hobi
Always makes me surprise and happy
I love Hobi's dance and rap song
This song is so beautiful
I love Hobi's voice colors
Thank you for your reaction
Given all his hard work and passion throughout his whole life, I'm so proud of him and happy for him : )
*Why don't you check BTS once? They are the biggest band in the world for a reason and it's worth checking them at least once. I'm sure it will not be waste of your time. If you had no prejudice, you would meet the whole new world. Let's go to "Mic drop" and "On(Kinetic manifesto film)" with Eng CC!!!
This was such a genuine and amazing reaction to watch. I got very emotional watching your admiration and devotion to J Cole’s lyrics and you were very kind and respectful to J Hope !
the song u were referring to that cole had put out is Simba, that where the same alleyways were taken
Yes! Thank you!!
i would definitely recommend the rest of jhope's discography, like stop, equal sign and airplane etc. i think you would quite enjoy it.
I love your comment! just one small correction; they met last July at Lollapalooza, not Coachella.💜
8:50 “everything that works according to a function has to have a designer” I loved that!
One of the best songs of the year
This was a great reaction, guys! And you were really insightful in your comments and understanding of the lyrics / the message!!!
@vibevilla_page wow really? I never win anything!
Really like this reaction. Very honest and respectful. Very proud of jhope for getting a song with his idol. And jcooooole got damn. Thank u guys 💜
Army. Adorable Respresentatives MC for Youth. Named back pew debut....not just because on recent enlistments.
@@maryhduke2307 What?!
@@EnLAre the way you typed the comment, it seemed like you said army was called army just because of enlistment, i think he misunderstood your comment
@@triplej8666 I read it like 4 times and it still reads the same to me; I’m must be missing it!
@@triplej8666 is that better?
If you want to see them perform it, there is a "recorded live" performance on their channel: ua-cam.com/users/live9sJ_I1lHpps?feature=share
This is a 3-song "mini concert" that starts with "Born Singer" followed by the two new singles from the anthology.
Thank you!
since you like Jcole, check out BTS’s cover of Born Sinner
best video has got to be a stage mix video (a edit of two performances together). They originally did the cover in 2013, but in 2015 they performed it and then they performed it again in 2017… in both performances they changed the lyrics to follow more of who they were in the moment. [just turn on CC/subtitles]

some info
BTS is a 7-member boy group under Big Hit Music, they debuted on June 13th, 2013. They have 3 rappers and 4 vocalist (they all dance, fun fact: Jhope was an underground dancer and the two other rappers [RM and Suga] were underground rappers before BTS).
while you might want to compare the rappers of the group, many fans (called ARMY) have been saying one thing to distinguish their styles by something other than their voice
RM: lyricism & poetry
Suga: Delivery & feeling
JHope: Rhythm & flow
RM analyzes the world
Suga critiques it
and Jhope visualizes it
each member stands alone as great artist in their own right, they have their individual sounds. But when together they make art.
The 2022 Proof Live performance of it is amazing too!
So much love and respect for everyone who appreciated Jhope for this collab 🥰🥰🥰
I hope y'all can dive in with BTS and Jhope solo works. 💜💜💜
I loved your reaction. They were sincere and I could feel what you felt. I've seen different reactions to the song and I've also seen the video countless times. I loved watching you
an Army for you 💜💜
Please do more JHope his latest album has a lot of boombap beats on it, Jack in the Box 👌👌
i gotta say this has been the best first reaction for this video! I loved all the explantions
Gracias a esta colaboración conocí a J Cole es INCREÍBLE, amo esto, la voz de j hope es FENOMENAL
so good to see a crossover between two great artist with different nationalities and fanbases.
Lol
Much respect how you did that, I like 🥰
