Only 20k miles and 400 built! We found this mostly original 1979 Plymouth Volare Road Runner at the Bellefonte Cruise in Pennsylvania. #plymouth #plymouthroadrunner #mopar #moparornocar
I ordered a 1979 Dodge Aspen R/T, same black and gold combo, but I got the "top" engine option: the E58 "police" 360 4bbl. I had a 71 Charger R/T at the time, 440 4bbl. My favorite muscle car ever? My 70 440 6bbl 5 speed Roadrunner that after 10 years I was forced to sell.
I had a 1977 Road Runner with T-tops. Too bad it wasn't in as good shape as this one. Built a 360 that would definitely push the limits of handling, but when you can shift into second at 6000 rpms, second was a hoot then... Never did get to max out into 3rd, probably a good thing. Gotta love those highway gears...
Lots of negativity on 1970’s cars. Easy and inexpensive to repair and last forever, unlike today’s cars. Take any midsize 75 over current cars. And daily it as one did at the time. Lovely Chrysler
My mom had a 77 Aspen. Baby blue with white vinyl interior, quarter top, t-tops, V8, auto on the floor. Loved that car. Would love to find another one like it
That emblem wasn't copied from Oldsmobile, that was Plymouth's logo from the mid-'60s to the mid-'90s. Also, he's right that the difference between the Super-Six and the regular Slant Six is the Super Six had a 2-bbl. It's the same carb as on a 318, but with a slightly smaller venturis. I ran one for a while with a 318 carb, among many other mild performance mods. Those engines are amazingly tweakable. There's also a die-cast aluminum 2bbl Super Six manifold that can be found on the Feather Duster, the Dart Light, and some 225s from the '80s on IIRC. They're light enough to spin on your pinky finger, so quite a reduction in weight from the huge cast-iron one.
I owned a '76 Volare with a 318 and manual 4 speed on the floor with overdrive. It got 26 MPG on trips. It had the Magnum 500 wheels and looked pretty sharp. It was a dependable car and the 4 on the floor always freaked people out....everyone thought cars like that were only automatics. It drove really well and even handled pretty well in the turns. Those Road Runner models looked good, but it was kind of an insult to the proud Road Runner heritage. Mopar's high performance days were long gone by 1979.
The Road Runner was a trim package starting in1976, yes you could order it with the slant 6 The performance looks without the high insurance costs. More people were concerned about Miles per gallon. I did see a 1978 road runner in Minnesota in June. Orange with a white vinyl roof. Thanks for posting this video 🏁🇺🇸
The "place in Arizona" he's referring to that makes the graphics is Phoenix Graphix and Brian Kotarski is (or was) the owner of that company. Nothing wrong with the "Leaning Tower of Power" 225 CID Slant Six. It is an excellent engine.
Super nice survivor!❤ I have a 79 Aspen R /T E58 727 3spd suregrip rear axle HD suspension with those aluminum wheels! I had that same exact rear window louver and it blew off on the freeway when i was only doing about a 110mph😭and lost forever😩
Always admired the 76 to 80 , volare roadrunners and dodge aspen RT's . Especially in the middle 90's !! BUT Being a Mopar fan since the 70' s , and owned them all, I could still buy 1970 roadrunners cheaper at that particular time. The Cuda too . The 70 s and volares and and dodge aspen's were higher in price in 1994 !!!! Finally got a 1978 dodge aspen wagon in 2009 . Was my daily driver for 14 years. Still got it , and it's for sale !!! Very rare model wagon . No roof rack, no trim , a plain Jane . Still has original paint, dog dish hub caps . All factory, radio 📻 delete but Has PS , PDB , FACT. AIR !! CHEAP ! !
I have a 1978 Plymouth Volare Richard Petty "Street Kit Car". Google it if you don't know what one is. It was technically the first "wide body" Mopar cars ever made and should have been the fastest production car that year most likely. It is one of 247 made. (Probably not more than 20 left). It has the E58 High Performance 360 4-barrel police engine in it and numbers matching. It also has a floor shift which I think it very rare because most of them I have seen had a column shift like this F-body car. My car needs restoration but is a very solid car. If anyone is really interested I would sell it but I want to sell it to someone that wants to actually restore it and keep it not flip it. There are several F-body guys in PA that like to low ball and get stuff for free and they make it up five times at Carlisle that I won't deal with. I don't need to sell the car and I have had it for 30 years but I'm just throwing it out there for anyone that really appreciates these cars and wants something that is super rare.
I've only had two run-ins with a Plymouth Volare. A middle-aged fella brought his Volare to my Goodyear for service once every couple of months. It supposedly had 500k on it on paper. He stopped coming in for a few months and showed up with a different Volare because his original one had finally blown up. A year later he and his son brought both to be serviced, with the first one having a freshly rebuilt engine. Guy loved his car! Minus the cigarette tar covering all the windows.. lol
I had one that was black with the silver fade stripes. Mine had the 360 with the 4 barrel and bucket seats with a console and was black interior as well -- I'm fairly sure it had the police engine but it didn't have a positrack rearend and it would spin the tires until you let off the gas pedal or blew up the tires. Mine didn't have the stripes on the hood. I added a front chin spoiler and put Centerline style wheels on it. It came with the rally type wheels not like wheels on the one in the video. If I remember correctly it had a tilt steering wheel and I added the Plymouth cruise control and a tachometer mounted down in the open storage compartment in the console. It was reasonably fast. I knew the production numbers were low but I was told they only made 52 not 400 but I didn't know they sold them with a slant 6 either. Maybe the dealer didn't lie, maybe they only made 52 with the 360 police engine. I believe mine had am/fm cassette and it sounded decent enough.
A couple of older mid-Michigan friends had Aspen R/Ts in the early ‘80s. Both 4 spds., 318s originally. One was swapped to a 340, the other got a 360. I ran into one of those friends recently, 40+ years later, at a funeral. He still has his, it’s well-preserved.
I would install fuel injection and a mild cam. Doug Collins would be the place to send it to. I all ways liked that car. Ethanol free gas if you don’t upgrade.
Back in my Hi Skool years 1981-1984 my best friend had a '76 black Road Runner 360 2bbl that he installed a 4bbl with intake, headers & true dual exhaust & it was a decent screamer! The owner of this one is not much of a talker & not very knowledgeable about his vehicle & he is wearing a Ford shirt while representing a MOPAR! I am a MOPAR guy & what makes this a Super 6 is the Carter 2bbl carb or Holley {both used on the 318}, 2 1/4 inch exhaust, special throttle & return brackets with a unique kickdown linkage & a high performance coil all making around 190-195hp which was basically the same as the '79 360 4bbl Road Runner ✌💖☮
Everytime the 70's cars pop up i look at the biggest thing in the room, "Bumpers". Chip Foose should have a full-time job tucking in the 70's and early 80"s bumpers.
In 1981, my Dad got me a 1978 Dodge Aspen R/T in paint code RR7 Sunfire Red metallic with a red, orange, and yellow stripe with a matching R/T sticker in front of the rear wheels. It was special ordered with a 360, but unfortunately, it had the "spark control computer" on the air cleaner that limited its horsepower. My friend found a 1976 Plymouth Volare' Road Runner in Orange with black and yellow stripes. His had the 318 and more horsepower since it was 2 years older. I drove my Aspen everywhere. Kept it until 1998 and sadly sold it when we found out our 2nd child was on its way. I also had to sell my Dodge Stealth R/T that was new daily driver.
I think "imposter" is too strong a word - it's not like someone took a Satellite and shoved a Road Runner drivetrain into it. I would call it a "tribute survivor" at best. I
One in bay city, mi. Right now with slant six, no air, stick shift and t tops to boot, guy gets all the attention … same colors
Solid choice in 79', the window slats and spoiler look sweet. Didnt expect a slant 6 in a roadrunner
Great find!
I like it and a 6 is fine. My 58 Chevy has a 6 and a stick and runs great.

kids, huh....that's why my 340 Dart went away...
@@JamesAllmond love those 340s, had one in a '72 Duster 45 yrs ago

Dont see many of them last forever 70s cars on the road lols.
Talkative guy…

Cool car and definitely not something you see often.

My 76 wasn't no punk... built small block Mopar and 4 speed made it a riot. Only got beat twice.
except for the fastest production vehicle of 1979, Dodge Lil Red Express truck
Wheels n stripes

i love this car! never knew they existed til now. can't beat a slant six!
Well preserved time capsule, love it 👍
A buddy of mine had a '78 with a slant six . You couldn't kill that engine.

nice looking car all should have had the E58 Police 360 as the only option and a 3:55 sure grip
Wow, all those hoses on the engine! I love the slant six - it’s reliable and durable.

I had a 79 Volare, 318 3speed overdrive. What a fun car to drive
Something is wrong. He has to be a time traveler.
Always have liked black and gold combo especially on the Dodge Demons.
Dennis should have asked him if the horn went beep beep like the old Roadrunners 😂
Great looking car, I had the "78 Volare slant 6 with a 4 speed, excellent car . I liked to bury the speedo, it just took a while.
That central Pennsylvania accent is unmistakable!
Grand Dads Duster all Luxury, I knew someone Who had just a Volarie it came with Super 6. i tried to buy but never got car
I like the Plymouth volare roadrunner

Beautiful Volare Road Runner . I would take this in a heartbeat compared to cars of today .
No mention if it had the original road runner horn ? Very nice car for 1979. Love the slant 6's

I'm going to guess that the company that makes the stickers has a computer file of the design and can make them as needed
🤟🏼
yup, Pheonix Graphics
I remember one of these in my small ontario canada town. 79 not sure...it was orange in color
Beautiful car.
I believe the dodge aspen was the sister car slow but cool 💯
I had one with silver stripes in 1979 with a 318
They don't makem like that anymore
Nope
Love those late seventies road runners/ r/t's
Amazing!!!!
😎
I love the 70s & 80s underdogs

My brother had a white one with t tops
The sticker car era. Lol
I can't believe he never saw one!
All show and no go.
