    We're here. Finally!
    I procrastinated making this guide for a long time as I had only done the fight once before and didn't understand it too well so thought it was hard. Plus with this being the first max level encounter I've covered, I knew I would be mixing with a lot of people who are actually geared and while my own gear is better than a first timer, it is far lower quality than any regular player - so I was doubtful if I would even be able to get footage of main tanking for example.
    Another thing putting me off is the fact that I'm also not very good at all 5 of the classes I use, especially for max level rotations (of which I know none now). I had picked things up a bit for the 5 classes after covering the earlier trials in Endwalker (after an absence of playing) and knew I should do this one without a long delay or I would soon forget - but that ended up happening anyway. Fortunately you don't really need to be that good here, especially with how much geared players are speeding up this encounter.
    As of right now I can finally say I can get players through the vast majority of 'difficult' MSQ content (2.0 to 6.0 MSQ - which is the main story really). It's taken a long time and yeah I dropped doing dungeons but those bosses are generally only one or two mechanics tops and SE started tweaking them throwing earlier guides out of date. That said I am pretty happy with this accomplishment and feel I've done a decent job.
    Going forward I am going to semi-retire with FFXIV guides. I do not intend to continue covering the MSQ after 6.0 because this is really the major ending point of the story. Also it just becomes harder and harder to keep up with 5 classes for a game I am not actively playing, especially as I start to reach max-level content where decent competency of play is expected - and I'm really sketchy with BRD and RDM! If someone really wants a guide for something (and I have it unlocked and feel like doing it) then sure but at this point I am happy enough to consider my job done.
    Now if anyone has made it this far I will mention that if you've enjoyed my videos here or found them amusing - I do happen to do other things on this channel of mine so if you're interested in some more of my... let's say... _unhinged_ content, then come and take a look! I've made a couple of new 'funny clips' montage videos recently which should give you a good idea of what to expect (my wife laughed at them at least once each so I'm legally allowed to name them as funny alright?).
    Lastly I would like to say thank you to everyone who has used my guides and to everyone who has left support over the years - I do read every comment though perhaps I am a bit slow at responding to them these days (sorry!). It's always a pleasure to see a new notification and see what people are saying and of course it's been a great way to build a potential audience to my other content.
    The end of 6.0 was really memorable for me so I hope you've enjoyed your final push to get here. Good luck with the fight and have a great time with the ending!
    See you around!
    Tom

    Nobody zeroes in on that one pain point for new comers and then succinctly eliminates it the way your guides always do. You'll be missed!

      Brilliant, I'm glad you think so as that's exactly what I'm trying to do. I like to use guides myself if I'm not with NPCs but find they're usually either too rushed and skimp on details or too long and a drain to listen to. I basically try and make my own guides be the guide I would have wanted to see for my first time.

      @@TomScottDoesStuff You're welcome! Drives me crazy when guides tell me everything *except* the one thing that everybody invariably messes up on, or at best tell me to "dodge" ;). If you ever feel like it Alliance raid guides or even Normal raid guides would be fun but that's a ton of work so no pressure intended :). Enjoy your return to 14.

      Cheers. I have looked at potentially doing at least the Crystal Tower and have even recorded a number of runs (which I've deleted as my UI changed since and even recorded a few more after).
      The issue is that I wish to show every relevant mechanic from the perspective of the relevant person. E.g. if the mechanic hits person X, I make sure I am person X so I can show it in the most direct way. And then of course I also run everything from every role (heal, tank, offtank - when needed, melee, ranged physical & ranged magic) so that if I comment on something role specific, people can hopefully trust that I know what I'm talking about.
      As you have probably guessed already the big difficulty here is alliance raids having groups and each group can end up having a different role to play in some encounters. So that sorta means I would need to run every place not only the initial 5 times (no offtanks), but as many times as it would take for me to end up getting put in the right group for each specific job - and that's entirely RNG. For example Cerberus in the World of Darkness needs tank for the boss, tank for ads, tank for belly. I could run this 20 times and still miss one.
      It sorta puts alliance raids on the shelf of just far too much potential RNG and work to make it worth it even though I bet crystal tower guides would get a ton of views. Normal raids maybe, but you might be surprised to hear that I've never bothered doing or unlocking any of them :D

    • @qamarqammar7629
      @qamarqammar7629 11 місяців тому +1

      @@TomScottDoesStuff That makes sense. The RNG of Alliance raids (where you end up) is certainly a thing. And, while they aren't very difficult, they are very long to describe, even with mechanics being skipped these days. (You could skip tank goes into the belly on Cerberus I think since I've never noticed anybody ever tanking in there :)). I'd love to see some guides but I would never add to the list of things anyone should do in 14, as it is endless!
      I've been revisiting the ARR (2.X) series of level 50 Hard mode dungeons on an alt. Some of them have really specific and completely not intuitive mechanics - like if you don't know you will just wipe. My alt has seen plenty of chaos there in the last few days since a lot of players don't remember. I love these old weird mechanics, but would guides for them get any views? I'm not sure. They are very optional.
      It does not surprise me at all that you never opened up the Normal raids in 14. It has only been in the last two expacs that I feel a real connection between the raids and the main story (aside from Coils of course but nobody does that anymore). Only with Eden and Pandemonium I mean. The others were fine but more - whatever :). Also there is just so much that remains relevant in 14, it is a huge catalogue of instances at this point. Whatever you do enjoy your return! Anything you care to make will always be fun.

      Sorry I might have missed your reply then went on holiday for a bit.
      I feel like I should play the game more, I've not even progressed the story past 6.1 and I am in an FC which at least seems like people are having fun in (though I am almost always offline). It could be interesting to see more of the raids and open up more options for glam stuff but I feel like there is so much to remember with just the MSQ content that any time I unlock something else it just adds to the pile of things to remember which is quite off-putting.
      Like I unlocked Ruby Weapon and some random Stormblood trial which I can get in my trial roulette and it's more 'unfun' than fun to get put in something like that and stress over not knowing the fight well enough. Even now I only have Crystal Tower and Void Ark unlocked for alliance raids (even though they're faceroll with 1 or 2 exceptions).
      But then the other thing is that I have too many other games to either finish playing or play at all, then there's editing too on top of my normal job/family time constraints. I'll have to see. I like the game but I wish I had more reason to spend time in it which doesn't act as a mild thing to stress over.
      -
      And yeah, Crystal Tower would probably get decent views because it's required content and is the first piece of content which involves a ton of players (which is scary sounding). It's faceroll except one or two mechanics and putting those into context is just too much effort which sucks because it would be nice to be able to provide that information. Anything non-MSQ or current patch content will trickle. Of course I don't really make videos just for views but it feels like a greater use of my time & energy if I make something that lots of people find useful.
      Anyway, glad you're enjoying the raids. It is true though that them being so disconnected from the MSQ does mean I don't really feel like I'm missing out at all by not doing them, which I both like and kinda dislike. And let's see! I'm always subscribed to the game and often think of what else random videos I could make with the game. Cheers for the support!

    Returning after a 3-year break and got to this fight and what do I see but this posted with 30 views. Thanks for everything you've done in helping me, if not pull my own weight, at least be far less of a burden. It means a lot!

      @@TomScottDoesStuff Well, as a post-mortem, I did die one in the last phase but it wasn't because of anything the video didn't try to prepare me for. Just always a little different in person and manipulating the camera while multiple things are going on. I was trying to figure out if you can determine where's safe to stand immediately when you see the planets but didn't really have time to focus on it, if I find something useful there I'll drop you a line!

    • @TomScottDoesStuff
      @TomScottDoesStuff  11 місяців тому

      Ah yeah for sure. Honestly the main way I avoid the smashing planets move is simply by the fast one normally spawning in my field of view - so I just run to where it spawned and wing it from there. But that felt a bit too complex to try and explain as a recommended strategy.
      And seeing a video vs being there in person and also trying to tank/heal/dps at the same time is for sure a totally different experience :D

    Thanks so much for all of your funny but very thorough guides. I love that you do more than one perspective, as so many come from a tank perspective. I know I will need those one day, but as a healer main, I love that you covered so much more. Thanks for helping me get from sprout to lvl 90!!

      Hey no worries! It's nice to hear you've found the perspectives useful. I agree as well and of course it makes the videos take a bit more time but I do think it helps show things more clearly. And grats on 90!
      Sorry for the late reply btw lol😅

    as a perpetual newbie, reaching this trial guide and realizing, now that I'll be playing an expansion as it comes out, I won't be able to search up the TSDS guide before I do any trial is almost as sad as the actual plot of the game right here

      My dude if you're gonna go so far as to direct someone to google, definitely make sure you do it yourself first (especially if you're suggesting that only the American-English pronunciation exists) 😬
