Huge respect to the restorers. Unsung heroes. 🫡
Absolutely stunning what you've been able to do with this Connie. I'm glad you guys were able to find the necessary backing to bring it to such a glorious state. I wish I could see this aircraft up at Oshkosh this year. keep up the Good Work!
What a Beautiful aircraft. Rod Lewis and Planes of Fame, thank you.
The most beautiful airliner ever built. I love the Connie.❤️❤️❤️❤️
Connie, Beautiful Lady of the Sky, Style, Form, and Grace !
Who would check-out the pilot when the airframe is 65 to 70 years old. Who stays current on these old aircraft.
100 percent
Agreed fully. I hope they restore the one at the SAA Museum at Rand Airport in Germiston, South Africa.
I can’t agree more!
Absolutely magnificent!
My dad was an engine mechanic on the RC-121 Warning Stars in the late 50s, early 60s. Were he still with us he'd have been thrilled to see this Connie. Just beautiful.
One of the most beautiful airplanes ever. Bataan is stunning! Fantastic job on the restoration.
A truly beautiful bird, gracing the skies once again thanks to all those involved with its restoration.
one of my earliest memories was touring this plane in the fifties. i also got to see the COLUMBINE
There's something magical about a Connie!
Incredible restoration work. Well done!
She’s stunning! Congrats to everyone who had a hand in bringing this Connie back to her former glory!
I grew up outside of Ft Rucker and remember when this plane first arrived at the Army Aviation Museum. Both my parents worked at Rucker and my fathers office was only a few blocks from the Museum. I crawled all over this plane after it arrived. Before they eventually plexiglassed the cockpit from public access. There are videos on YT of when they eventually flew it out of the airfield it was at.
Beautiful part of history flys again; thank you Mr Lewis👍
There has never been another aircraft as beautiful as the Connie ever built. My very first trip on an airplane was on a connie (1956), which lead to qualifying for a pilot license in my 20's. Thank You Lockheed!
Stunning doesn't do this aircraft justice.
The first time I ever flew was with my father. We flew to visit my grandparents on a Lockheed Constellation...That was a long time ago. :-)
I flew in one when I was about 3 years old. TWA out of Albuquerque and have loved them since.
They are sleek, beautiful, and majestic. You never forget that sound !!
Especially if you are in a window seat beside the engines. LOUD.
@@johnarnold893 Absolutely. It will rattle your teeth when they did a full run up At least I got to experience that once in my life.
Congratulations to all concerned from across the pond...... a beautiful job.
About 2-weeks ago I saw her flying at about 10,000’ over KABQ heading to Oregon. Beautiful sight to see.
Fabulous. Probably the most beautiful passenger airliner of all time. Kudos to everyone involved.
Now if only you could get this and the Australian Connie in the same place at the same time.
they need to talk to HARS, it would a great sight to see them in formation
My father served with the 4:15 4:16 PAANG 193rd SOG In Highspire PA. They flew the EC121in those days. They flew touch and goes in Highspire and would fly over our neighborhood for hours while they were training. My dad loved that old bird. I joined the USAF because of him. I loved every minute of it. I miss it every day and I don't think that will ever go away
She's breath taking. Excellent work....👍
Kudos to Lockheed back in the day to step in and help a bit.
PLEASE return to Oshkosh/AirVenture in 2024! I haven't heard yet if it is...
That is the plan if they can coordinate pilots to also fly Rod’s new Mosquito in also.
She is such a beautiful aircraft. The lines are just a work of art. It's fantastic to see her flying again. National pride!
fantastic paint job and restoration
Simplement un mot WOW, QUE DES PASSIONNÉS POUR AVOIR UN RÉSULTAT COMME CELUI-CI
I remember watching them work on this plane at Ft Rucker when i was a Warrant Officer Candidate. It was just rotting in front of the Army Aviation Center Museum. So glad to se it has been returned to such great condition.
Hearing the qantas connie fly over my house as a kid left a strong memory of bolting out of my house to look up and see what it was.
Wow! I saw that airplane at the museum near the Grand Canyon many years ago and am very happy to see it flying again! ❤❤❤❤❤ well done! 👍
A truly magnificent aircraft… it’s almost a shame that jets came along.
My first flight was in a Connie - courtesy of the US Army - between Fort Jackson in South Carolina to Fort Sam Houston in Texas.
I miss the Confederate Air Force days.
The most beautiful “Airliner” in history. Second to none, not even the Concorde.
Beautiful job on the Bataan. I can't wait to see it when the interior is done, too. Like so many things in life. You don't know what you're missing, until they're all gone.
I graduated flight school at Mother Rucker in March of 70 and never in my wildest thoughts think that plane would ever fly again.
I'm old enough to remember these in regular passenger service. My Dad was a aircraft fan and we frequently visited a place where other fans parked to watch the comings and goings of air traffic at Philadelphia International Airport in the fifties into the sixties. We saw many Connies during that time as they were so easily identified. Seeing this plane today in this condition, in the air is a big deal to all that remember them. Thanks to all involved!
Awesome
Wow! Love the legs on this beauty. Hope to see her in person some day.
Painful and sad to see beautiful aircraft awaiting the restoration that may never come. Delighted this Beautiful bird has been saved. Wish they could get a little TLC. They deserve it! Thanks very much.
Gorgeous, gorgeous, gorgeous!!! She really cleans up well. I flew on a MATS Connie as an Air Force brat, coming home with Dad and family from Rhein-Main Air Base in the 50's. Connie wins the beauty contest hands down. We have a Super Connie in TWA colors, here in Kansas City , MO, but the last I heard, she needs a good engine replacement to get back in the air.🥲🥲🥲
Gorgeous re-restoration!😊
Love the Connie! As I’ve posted in other Constellation related videos, I met Mr. Walt Disney on TWA Connie in 1958. Great memories!
I was at Rucker for OH-6 IP/Gunnery training when the plane first landed at Rucker. It was quite a thrill to see it on final with the Bataan logo on the side. For some reason I've forgotten I wasn't able to get a walk through. I did get another look at it of it from the air at a distance, but without the sound of those big engines, it wasn't the same thrill.
Stunning, incredible restoration, very much looking forward to its interior refurb. We have a beautiful smaller sister. love from HARS Connie VH-EAG 😍
Stencil below cockpit side window: "Service this aircraft with grade 110/145 fuel..." That might be a problem these days.
Always thought these were beautiful aircraft. Great job on the restoration! She's gorgeous!
I don't care what anyone else thinks, but Connies are THE most beautiful aircraft ever designed. Followed closely by P-38's and P-61's.
Would be great to see this fly side by side with the Aussie Super Connie (VH-EAG) which was originally a C-121C (54-0157).
I walked through this aircraft at Ft Rucker as they readied her to fly out of the VERY SHORT stage field by Yano hall. I was going through ATC school and was honored they allowed me to look through Gen McArthurs aircraft. I was also honored to stand by the fence as we watched them depart…..living history!!
It is the beauty. I flew from Baltimore or Washington DC to Lackland AFB 1962.
What a Beautiful Aircraft with obvious REAL Workmanship absolutely outstanding ! Looking forward to the Full interior Re-work as it was during WW2 Service . Could you please provide more information on the Engine Type and Upgrades if possible, I believe she was / is capable of serious speed for Her time ? Thanks to ALL who returned Her to a Flying Condition its were she belongs amongst the Clouds in a Beautiful blue Skye !
The quote that defines the 20th century, as spoken by the General: "These proceedings are closed." September 2nd, 1945.
I lived in Inglewood next to LAX in the 1950s and I saw many Connies take off and land. The Coast Guard was flying Catalinas at impossible stall speed up and down the SoCal coast. If I had seen a 262 I would have said "that's the 3rd most beautiful airplane on Earth". My mom worked for Hughes that decade.
My Grandfather survived the Bataan death march despite being buried alive...Twice! Your org should visit the Philippines someday with this beautiful aircraft.
The Best, Most Dependable Prop Plane ever made. I know because I worked on them at LAS New York in the 1960's...
What beautiful plane! As a very young child I lived near Tinker AFB & I remember seeing these & flying boxcars flying by
This was a fantastic looking aircraft and the restorers have done a really fine job of getting her back in shape. This was in my opinion the best looking of the four engine prop airliners.
The number of outstanding aircraft that man Kelly Johnson was responsible for ...
There are so many dedicated aviation enthusiasts willing to bring these icons back to the air.. Unfortunately the intersection of enthusiasts with deep enough pockets are few and far between. Happy to see this Connie fell into that group of people.
Hopefully when that plane gets displayed, the significance of the name “Bataan” is displayed as well. The Bataan Death March is something American & Filipino POWs endured together and should not be forgotten.
It's a beautiful plane, and thank goodness it's not been recommissioned. That would be blasphemy!! Thanks for sharing this! :)
Great video! The Constellation is such a beautiful aircraft. And the musical accompaniment is a fine compliment to the flight scenes. Well done, EAA. Thank you.
"Its systems are more difficult and complicated than a Douglas or Boeing plane - it's Lockheed" 😂😂
Very pretty plane.
I remember EC 121s at Eglin, and Tinker. Always love to hear them massive powerful engines thunder while on power up at take off.
This airplane was decaying in the Alabama sun for years at Fort Novosel (Rucker) for years before being rescued.
The Constellation. Arguably the most beautiful airplane to ever grace the skies.
How many are flying? There's 'Connie' flown in her QANTAS livery, now Bataan looking rather fine in the military dress uniform, any others?
I remember seeing and hearing the Constellations flying above my house as I lived approx. 17 miles from BWI when it was known as Friendship Airport. The sound of radial engines was common in those days, now when you hear a round engine, you can really tell something vintage is flying nearby, go out and look.
Excellent video, beautiful plane. Too bad that the Korean war lasted 3 years because of MacArthurs arrogance!
Kelly Johnson and Lockheed produced a marvelous aircraft and you guys and gals have made this one absolutely beautiful.
The most beautiful prop plane ever designed! As for jet aircraft, my vote goes to the Caravelle! Does anyone know how many Connie's are now in flyable condition?
My heart just stops and then I look at the overall beauty of this magnificent bird.
Bob Bogash is responsible for the Super Constellation sitting proudly at the Museum of Flight in Seattle. I was the former owner.
A very very awesome restoration you guys did on this beautiful plane. Flew on a TWA connie as a kid ,so cool to see the exhaust flames coming out on a early morning flight from lax to st Louis in the late 50's I believe.
What is the panel missing on the TE of the right wing?
Gorgeous airplane. How about doing a Lockheed Tristar next!😁
Wow! Looks brand new! Actually, I can’t believe it looked so go straight out if the factory
Those pilots are skilled, experienced, no doubt qualified, but for one thing. They are to old to be flying such a valuable aircraft. Remember the 80 year old pilot crashed the B17 when it lost an engine, he did not have the reflexes and speed to save the plane. Then there's the 80 year old pilot that crashed the P51 galloping ghost, he had no business flying a P51. Maybe these old guys should have a younger expert pilot as a co pilot or let the old guys be the co pilot. These airplanes had age restrictions for the pilots for a reason. To ignore that now is already being shown to be a mistake
..I remember that aircraft at Rucker!! Was there in July - Oct 1975..spent a lot of free time at the display
There is a Connie sitting in Salina Kansas it’s been there for years . My Dad worked for TWA for 46 yeas in Kansas City he retired in 84, he was there when they were fazed out for the 707 .
As a kid my folks took us on a trip with TWA and there it was, a Connie. About the only thing I recall was the intense vibrations those engines made sitting next to the window. Later I made a Connie model plane kit that I ogled constantly. Those curves are indelible. Did you guys document some of that painstaking labor to restore this wonderful plane? Congrats all around.
She is gorgeous! (this coming from a helicopter pilot that doesn't like anything that isn't turbine powered).
Unfortunately, I only know of three Connie's in the world today that are still flying, it is a shame because it played such a critical role in USAF history!
I was shocked to see it rotting at Ft Rucker before you acquired it, shame on the ARMY! Today it's a beauty to behold!
It's pronounced Bah-Ta-Ahn. All three "a" vowels are enunciated.
I actually had a very small part in this. In the early to mid 90's I was a weekend warrior at Chino Planes of Fame and while this was still in Alabama, they sent pieces of the tail skin to be remade and being I was a sheet metal worker they gave them to me. I took them to my shop and during a week I made exact copies of the aluminum pieces, and they were shipped back to Alabama and installed. I still go to Chino Airport and to the museum often (it's only 3 miles away from my house.
The most beautiful of all the radial powered four engined commercial aircraft
Would love to see you bring it to WWII weekend in Reading PA. The 1st weekend in June. Beautiful Connie.
We had a Connie at TWA that would fly to airshows. I saw it make a landing at Lambert Field in St Louis in 1993
"Made In America" with pride! Love this airplane, thanks to everyone involved in the restoration. Some things cannot be replaced only remembered when they are gone.
While it is amazing to see her flying again, it is such a pity that they didn't use an authentic paint scheme for this bird. This specific airframe has had so many historic uses and commensurate colour schemes and markings that to ignore that is unfortunate. I am very much an advocate for historic flying airframes to be painted in their original colours and markings, so I am disappointed.
And they also stripped out the replica VIP fit that was such a hit with folks when she was at Valle. Probably not airworthy standards though.
But it is nice to see her flying again.
I’ve seen it fly over my house twice now! my favorite airplane ever! The sound is so beautiful!
A thing of beauty indeed. The designer was a genius!
Note the name is Batáan: every letter is pronounced, the stress being on the á.
Just saying.
Constellations are beautiful aircraft. We live within the landing pattern of port Columbus airport Ohio We being laying on the grass after lunch during the summer and watch constellations fly over.
Howard Hughes , T.W.A. 18 Mil $ order for 40 off the top of his Head and a Handshake !
Only Douglas MacArthur would have the sheer blind ego to name his aircraft after one of this biggest failures.
I believe one of the most beautiful aircraft ever built! I wish more Constellations would be restored to grace our sky's once again..
I cant tell my Comstellations models apart.. is this an '"1049" or another ??
