The video is a collaboration between Grimes, Mac Boucher, Neil Hansen, Sevi Iko Dømochevsky and Production Club.
Miss Anthropocene is an art project by Grimes in which a new pantheon of modern Gods exist as humanoid versions of the concepts that dominate our lives, such as Climate Change, plastic, biological warfare, social media, etc. In the 21st century, these ideas have replaced the old pagan Gods and concepts.
In the song New Gods, the question is posed as to whether we need new gods to survive as a species.

This song perfectly explains with words, vibes, and visuals what it is like to go through sobriety as a recovering addict. I have a framed photo of a still from this video hanging on my wall which reminds me every day to search for “new gods.” Not literally, but when you are in the throes of active addiction, your drug of choice is your god and nothing else matters. But it’s like worshipping something evil - because it is. It will only ever hurt you. Even though living in this new sober world feels painful and impossible, I know I have to look for “new gods” in the every day things that bring me joy, like my husband, my beautiful puppy, my sisters who are my best friends, the sun shining, the rain falling, the cool breeze right before the sun goes down for the day, the food on my plate, the job I have to go to… these are the gods I should be worshipping. Not drugs.

Wish I discovered Grimes sooner, her music would've helped me heal in my teenage years. But now it feels like a reward for hanging on. It's ethereal, moving, and cryptic. The connection continuing on from the Delete Forever video is beautiful. Delete Forever is about loss and New Gods seems to be about the different ways people find meaning in coping with grief and emptiness. As rich or famous as Grimes gets, she has shown no signs of missing a beat in her artistry.

I'm sure many have noticed this but if you remember in her previous song "delete forever" she was sitting in the same throne and the planet was beautiful and full of color. Now, the planet is destroyed and it has no color.

Seguramente Grimes sabe el significado exacto de esta canción al ser su autora, sin embargo ello no quita que se puedan explorar los parajes de lo subjetivo. A mis ojos, creo que la canción habla acerca de la ocurrencia que tienen los humanos de creer en algo para sostenerse en este mundo y de la posterior decepción de que Dios no nos escuchó, nos dejó a la deriva y nos limitó a volar más alto. Ante este escenario surge la necesidad de contar con nuevos Dioses. Y quizás Grimes personifica a uno de ellos, sentada en su trono tal cuál como la mismísima miss-antropocéntrica, recordándonos que hay que dejar de esperar que todo "caiga del cielo" como aquel misil del video; esta misma espera sería la muerte, porque se dejaría de lado la voluntad humana, que al final es lo que nos permitiría seguir avanzando. Por como lo veo, la canción tiene oscuros tintes de decepción, pero también creo que el mensaje de creer en nuevos Dioses apunta a volver a tener una conducta activa en el curso de la historia, quizás recuperando el amor por otros seres, por la ecología y por la ciencia. La esperanza por salir del letargo que nos puede llevar a la extinción misma. En fin, sea como sea una grande Grimes♡

Yo creo que como dice la cancion “you can’t give me what I want” Dios no le esta dando lo que quiere, entonces “hands reaching out to new gods” ella comienza a alabar a otros dioses. Que en el termino biblico es Satanas. Ya que solo existe un Dios verdadero. Ella quiere cosas (probablemente materiales como la fama, exito y el dinero) y pues abandona a Dios. Me encanta el sonido como siempre, su voz y creatividad. Sin embargo no me gusta el mensaje de la cancion. Aunque al menos esta siendo honesta, supongo.

I just found out who this artist is. Wow. I love hearing the progression of her music. Its really impressive that she really just started messing around and got famous and learned instuments and music production along the way. She takes some really aggressive changes in her beat structure and voice voulme/clarity but they always come back to her one of a kind melodies and Grimes Grime. I think i love her. lol
