"I'm not very successful" Hey dude come on, don't say that. You're doing your thing instead of being someone's slave. In my eyes you are successful and very knowledgable. Start counting your success by your inner values, not stupid goals like money or status.
“Im not very succesful, especially from my parents perspective” oh snap that hit me hard bro 😬 dont worry brother, as long as you trying 👊🏼 go get that bread brother
This is literally the video I needed to motivate myself to start my own project. Thank you for going so in depth as to describe the tech stack you've used, this is invaluable to me. Wish you all the best and a successful career in the future
In the same boat. Four years of a Software Engineering degree, then one year at a startup. Now I'm doing my own thing. I feel like a huge failure but I hope its going to pay off. You're an inspiration for people like me. Keep it up 💪If anyones interested in a web startup being documented while it's being built. I release new videos every Monday, Wednesday and Friday ❤️
Dude, this is amazing. Just gained a new sub, i can't believe you aren't more popular! It would be really interesting to have a video where you run through your back end a bit more in depth, like what service are you using to host your servers, how authentication and authorisation works etc. if it doesn't already exist. Either way awesome work !
Abhra Biswas He's way brighter and less annoying than that fraud Fluke. He actually codes, and utilized the knowledge to produce revenue vs just trying to be a trendy UA-camr.
i love this guy a lot more. tech lead is secretive about how he build his projects. This guy is like here's exactly how i did it, go copy it if you want.
your videos gives guys like me(having only 9 to 7 IT infra jobs) courage to start something of our own , i wish you all the success in your life please don't stop making these kind of video .
Keep up the good work man! Love the honestly and ruthlessly not giving up in the slightest when your other businesses fail. You're going to skyrocket in no time :)
It's his honesty that really brings in the ears of strangers...extremely refreshing, so many people bullshit themselves to look cool and that gets old quick.
Cool, its nice to see someone doing what am doing too. I specialize in business facing doe. I create web apps for niche markets and sell subscriptions to it. I did this because I could not get a job in silicon valley. Even doe I had a CS degree, so I used all my CS skills to build robust business facing app and make a good living of it. My stack: Javascript, ReactJS, VueJS, Bootstrap, MySQL, Redis, Linux, Java, Bash scripts, and a few more I can't remember.
Great! I think it boils down to "finding a niche market" for all things, it's amazing what you achieve with the relatively small community! I subscribed for great content.
Everyone’s parents set standards for their kids according to their own beliefs and idiosyncrasies. You instead have challenged that and are living the American Dream of not being anyone’s slave. Keep it up! 👍🏼
Me, as a business student, recently is struggling on an essay related to cloud computing, I searched on youtube, and they suggested me this, so I am here. And you make me feeling admiring........ (btw, I didn't finish my work yet, and the deadline is around the corner T.T)
dude, are you kidding, even though i dont know you i believe that you're successful, check your channel's subscriber count. Also, you made a SaaS app that makes money.. you made such a great work
Actually, if you don't think you will spend more time to developing the business, you could sell it for a certain amount and let the buyer develop it. Would be a nice exit point I think! What do you think Will?
Thanks for sharing your experience ! Regarding hosting, if you have a high network usage application, consider using DigitalOcean. They lack some features, but their rates are flat per server (without the crazy AWS network costs) and they have a nice API, perfect for personal projects where you need to keep costs down. And about being distracted by other projects - many people including myself are. Often finding a partner for the project helps.
Times have changed since they were just starting out. Coding is coding no matter where you work. I was a programmer meetup and some where showing the code structure they built. They worked for a tire company. You see my point.
A lot of your viewers like me are not from the tech background. We find it difficult to watch the video when too many technical jargon are used to explain an interesting topic. A visual representation of your thoughts can help us. Big fan of your hustle! CHEERS!
This seems like a very promising idea! You might want to try to do this with some other game/s since there are games with way bigger communities. Even if you don't what you have done is SUPER cool!
Pretty great insight! I've been looking on how to make money on the side with my coding skillz and this seems like a great idea (making technical services more available to the average person) Btw what did you mean by using dedicated servers instead of AWS? Do you literally mean you bought physical servers, put them on racks and have them up somewhere? Or is there another cloud-like service that gives you the whole server? What about maintenance? So many questions! Haha
True, aws will cost three times much, gcloud azure and aws are not cheap, they are just computing as a service. You cancel it when you want, it is convenient, not cheap.
Really interesting! Do you have a pool of IP addresses that you assign to each game server or do multiple game servers have the same ip and just a different port?
i love your videos man, keep up! ;) i am in the point of starting my own business too ( I am full stack dev ). I find your content and experiences very motivational and useful in my decision making process towards marketing, and architecture. I know and like react, so I'll use that instead of bootstrap. But do not fall into the trap of engineering too much of a product, as the end result is pretty much the same, it is not a compromise that you're making. As long as you have results, it doesn't matter what you use to develop the software in. Cheers!
Hi Will... so can I ask... what was your final profit? I.e. you got a total revenue of ~$31k, but how much was your outgoings? How much did you buy the servers for? How much are subscription costs? The internet bill you had to pay for to keep your server connected? Let's say your labor was $20 per hour... how much after deducting that, then?
Hey Will, I'd advise you to get some sound panels for your room to record a cleaner voice. Your room has terrible acoustics and your voice jumps around echoing from every corner.
Do you own those Servers by yourself or did you choose some kind of option, for "Reselling" those "Hardware" and just apply your 7D2D-Software into it?
Hey I see you are using stripe. How did you handle VAT and sales tax? I am trying to build a similar website but I don't know where to start in that regard.
Your website is now the first result when I search for "7 days to die server hosting"! I also noticed you didn't put your website's url in the description, which probably made some people look the term up (like me) and pushed your website upwards in the ranking. Was this intentional I wonder, haha.
Very smart and cool! Well done on your end. This must have been very difficult considering it was only you running the service. Do you still maintain it yourself? How is the upkeep? Im surprised you were able to profit as 7D2D is very niche and (from my experience dead/small community than what it was several years from its launch). A good lesson. Do you have any guides how to piece everything together like the entire tech stack?
Just keep walking ... :) Just remember to work daily on your mindset, education and good habits and don't worry about making mistakes as long as you learn from them !
