First off, I love this video! Amazing work Whitney. 🙌 I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of Czajkowski (proper spelling of his Polish last name) in that he is an exciting and unique author because of the way he blends ideas and genres together. I haven’t read as much from him as you did but when it comes to Novella’s, I really enjoyed Elder Race; of course Children of time is amazing. I’m so happy this video is out. Hope it does well. ♥️
2:00 What you say here is EXACTLY my Tchaikovsky experience. I've read four of his books. Two have been duds; two have been huge wins. Elder Race, for one, is one of my favorite novellas by any author! Like you say, the highs of Tchaikovsky are so high that I want to keep reading. Cheers!
I really enjoyed this, Whitney. I love the interview questions and it's great to get AT's take on his own work. I agree that he's incredibly versatile and very creative, both with story ideas and ways of telling them. Some might not land but there's a lot of hits and I love that he takes chances and tries new things. My taste is pretty much in line with yours. Ogres is probably my fave, but I really enjoyed Elder Race and all the Terrible World books. I think Walking to Aldebaran was a Beowulf reimagining. I've not heard of Saturation Point, Made Things or any of Abaddon books, so thanks fro bringing them to my attention. I also like Adrian as an audiobook narrator. I was put off the Expert System books because of the narrator and wish AT had narrated them. (I put a hold on Libby for a couple of these and saw The Expert Systems Champion has an audiobook, in the UK, anyway.)
Thanks for watching!!! Im glad our tastes align and agree adrian is an awesome narrator! Btw, you must get saturation point its sooo well done. Uk seem to have more than we do in us in terms of audiobooks. No idea why…
This was such a great and comprehensive video! I recently read Elder Race and really enjoyed it, so I definitely want to read more of his novellas this year
I’m so glad you explained all of his novellas because I didn’t know where to start! Now I have all of them on my wish list and know what to expect! Thank you!
The video I’ve been waiting for! And it was awesome, I’ll definitely be coming back for reference. I haven’t read any of his novellas yet but this has made me more excited to get to some. Oh and I’ll be messaging you about Cage of Souls very soon.
Great idea for a video! I like to read novellas as e-books and am always looking for ideas. From the author I loved Ogres and plan to read Elder Race soon.
Great video! I love Tchaikovsky. I'd love videos on single authors tracing their arc. Our reading biases are very similar though I am not a fantasy fan. Loved the novella review. I've started to notice a repetition of tropes - class, evil corporations, dying world, climate change, etc. Probably inevitable for writers. There are so many climate change books that our local mall bookstore has an entire section. Note: Changing history via time travel was solved by Kage Baker (I've written about her "Company" series) by dedicating a unit to search for recorded history (which cannot be changed).
@Yesica1993 You misinterpreted. I've seen the growing season on my far stretch by 3 weeks while rainfall has dropped. It's "real". . I meant that CG was a convenient trope where usually the world does nothing as things collapse. For a while it was nuclear war, then asteroids, then AI...it's always something new.
So far I've read 12 novels and 3 novellas of Adrians, and so far the only one didn't hit for me was The Doors of Eden, everything else has been gold though(This is an even higher ratio of hits to misses than Asimov has for me). He's second only to Tolkien as my favourite author, and that's saying something. Particular favourites are Children of Time, Dogs of War, Alien Clay, and Elder Race
@@secretsauceofstorycraft Sweet. I've already bought that one and it's literally next on the list once I get done with The Mountain in the Sea (which should be in the next couple of days).
Everything I've read by Tchaikovsky has been pure garbage. Saturation point is literally the worst story I've ever finished. It was incredibly stupid. The other stories described here reinforce my decision to NEVER read anything more from Tchaikovsky. At least that will save me time in the future.

🔥 🔥 yay!! 😃 hope u found some good ones!
Awesome vid! I’ve only read a few so far, but Ogres and Elder Race are standout reads for me and can’t wait to get to all the rest!
So glad you got to those two!!! They are both great! 👍🏻
So great to hear about some of these! I’ve loved Children of Time and Alien Clay by him and definitely need to read more!
Glad to hear you enjoyed those!!! Would for sure recommend some of his novellas for sure!! 👍🏻
Needed this so bad. From the author I only read Children of Time and Children of Ruin and I'm interested in what else he wrote.
🔥 here to help!!!
This was awesome

He needs to bring more collection out so we can read and collect them, great vid listen to a few I enjoyed but would like to read them

I've only read Children of Time so far. I sure hope he's not always preaching about "climate change." I get enough of that nonsense in real life.

So far I've only read Walking to Aldebaran, but I LOVED it. I have 3 more of his novellas in my TBR pile. 😅
Glad you liked Walking to Aldebaran! I think you'll enjoy the rest!
Made Things is fantastic. Great video, as always. Cheers.
So glad you had a good time!! Thanks for watching
Awesome! 🔥🔥🔥
💙💜🖤❤️🔥🔥
Any plans on opening up a Bluesky account?
Will watch after annoying work stuff. I've only read the book about the... s - word. I didn't know he had novellas!
Yes he is well known for them! But am excited to hear ur thoughts 💭
I ordered Terrible Worlds while watching.
!!! Hope u enjoy it!!!

Glad I could help. Every author isnt for every reader.
